Nicolas Cole explains why perfectionist clients who demand endless revisions drain your business. The real money comes from clients who trust you enough to step back after the initial phase, not ones who debate every word choice.

I had a lot of clients that were really kind, really smart, really articulate, but the biggest issue was that they got in their own way. They were perfectionists. They would go back and forth 7 times in a draft and we'd be debating an adjective, like, should we say superb or should we say fantastic? That literally is not going to change anything. It doesn't matter. And so when I say difficult clients, it really comes down to how efficient is the relationship? How much do they trust you? Or is it someone who just like constantly— you're like, we've rehashed this like 8 times, like, what are we doing? You're looking for clients that in the beginning there's trust to be built, you got to build that relationship, that's fine. But you're looking for people where over time their time involvement goes down. They're like, "I trust you. I'm not going to read too much into this. I'm not going to edit this too much. Like, I trust." If you had all 5 clients on your roster that were like that, your business would be very different than if you had 5 clients that were all perfectionists and wanting to rehash things over and over and over again.
