Nicolas Cole argues the education system doesn't teach that everything in life is a skill. Impatience isn't a personality trait but a skill deficit you can fix through deliberate practice, moment by moment. This reframe gives you control over your identity and what you can achieve.

I think this is probably where the education system has failed us the most, which is failing to help people understand that every single thing in life is a skill. If you are impatient, that is a skill deficit. How do you build the skill of patience? You be patient. And every moment that you are patient with something, you are building the skill of patience. I love this frame because it makes you feel like you have more control. You have more control over who you are. You have more control over your reality. You have more control over achieving the things that you want to achieve. You have more control over changing things that that maybe aren't serving you, but you have to start from the lens of every single thing is a skill. And the only way to improve a skill is to do the thing.
