Nicolas Cole says most writers stay stuck because they don't specialize, skip outreach, and undervalue their work. Do one thing well, pitch five people daily, and give away 1-2 hours free to close deals. That 50% conversion bump separates the top 1% from the rest.

After mentoring over 2000 writers inside our premium ghostwriting academy, I've noticed a pattern. The writers who hit $10,000 per month in income the fastest do three things. First, they pick one service, not blog posts and emails and LinkedIn. One service, just email ghostwriting, just social ghostwriting on LinkedIn. They master it, they systematize it, and they charge a premium for this specialized knowledge. Second, they reach out to five prospects per day, every day, no matter what, not when they feel like it. Not five one week, zero the next. They keep the outreach train moving every single day. And third, they always lead with some sort of free work offer because they know, and this is something I tell every single writer, that one or two hours of free work increases the likelihood that the person will become a paying client by like 50%. So it's not really free work. You should just think of that time as a marketing cost. And that's it. If you adopt these three simple habits and you stay consistent for longer than a few weeks, you will very quickly become a top 1% writer because your competition is just sitting around on upwork, waiting for someone to offer them a job. It's not hard to beat out these lazy kinds of writers, but it does take effort and consistency.
