Your Niche is your Network

Start with the people you already know, not a perfectly defined niche. The speaker argues beginners overthink positioning and should instead launch by serving their existing network first, then let the niche emerge from there.
In the beginning, you don't actually need to pick a niche. Your niche is your network. It is literally anyone that you know or anyone that you know that knows someone who needs your help. Because in the beginning, you don't need a gazillion people, and you don't even need to crystallize what your niche is going to be. All you need is one person to say yes or one person that you can help. This goes back to just first principles, thinking there's no point in trying to figure out how to optimize your business. When you don't have a business, there's. There's no point in trying to figure out, well, what is my forever niche? When you haven't even pinpointed your first niche. So, so often I notice that whenever someone's getting ready to start something, they jump to the highest level question possible. And in a metaphor, that would sort of be like you saying, I want to learn how to swim. What is Michael Phelps Olympic routine? Well, it doesn't matter. You can't even get from one side of the pool to the other. So you need to start by just doing the thing. And the easiest way to start by doing the thing is to just look at your existing network.
