Niraj Naik argues that 120/80 isn't a universal healthy blood pressure, just a population average. He claims routine checks can manufacture disease by treating people to fit the norm, and points to Gandhi's blood pressure around 200/100 in his eighties as evidence the link between high readings and illness isn't straightforward.

Here's something they don't want you to know. When you go for a health checkup pretty much anywhere in the world, one of the first things they're going to do probably get out a little blood pressure machine and check your blood pressure. It's been drilled into our heads that normal is 120 over 80. Right? Kids know this, teenagers know this pretty much anywhere around the world, normal blood pressure is 120 over 80 or is it could be one of the biggest scams ever created by the medical industry is the ability to manufacture disease through health checkups. Let me explain why there's this guy, lived into his eighties, blood pressure was actually 200 over a hundred most of his life. And do you know who this guy was? Gandhi. How did he die? Well, he didn't die of high blood pressure. Died of was actually a bullet in his head. Checked his organs afterwards, found that there was no sign of disease and, and he didn't die of any of the symptoms that you're supposed to get from high blood pressure. What's going on here? Let me explain a little bit about the history of reading blood pressure and where this number of 120 over 80 actually comes from. If you take the average blood pressure of healthy humans at any given time in a population, fine, there's like a bell shaped curve and somewhere in the middle average will be determined as 120 over 80. But there is 25% of people on either side, high and low, who are perfectly healthy, who have outside the normal range of blood pressure. And this is where the biggest problems come in. Because often if we go for a health checkup now, because normal is given as average of the population's blood pressure, you are above or below that average score of 120 over 80, you're suddenly given a pill for correcting your blood pressure, trying to make it normal. But do you see where there's a problem here?
