A short conversational YouTube segment (Real Estate Team OS, May 3, 2025) about recruiting in real estate. Speakers emphasize recruiting for the culture you want to create (quoting John Cheplak) rather than the existing culture, and describe how a past emphasis on speed/service produced entitlement and crowded-out skills as the market changed. The speakers note they now prioritize professionalism and cultural fit when hiring.
To give a nod to John Cheplak, who says, you know, recruit to the culture you're trying to create, not the one that you have.
Absolutely.
So if you think back even two years ago, we had an agent who was quick at service that was able to, you know, at the job of Hatco, meet somebody, write a contract, be good from the contract to closing, and then wash, rinse, repeat. Right? Because there's more people raising their hands than you could write offers for, and they're just trying to get as many offers to stick. Unfortunately, culturally, it drove them to a style that crowded out the necessary skills for this market. There was a, you know, frankly, an entitlement that agents started to feel like, oh, well, these leads aren't as good. You're like, well, these are the leads that are out there. Like, we have leads from every channel, all the best channels. And if you don't like these leads, I don't, you know, like, go fish. Like, I don't know what you're gonna get. And so, you know, we've continued to look for people that are professional and make sure that people are excited.
