00 - Getting Started

This is a YouTube video titled "00 - Getting Started" created in April 2014, featuring Brooke Castillo and Melody McCloskey guiding viewers through an introductory session on overcoming procrastination and emotional blocks related to finances using tapping techniques. The content is motivational and instructional, aimed at helping participants take small steps toward financial confidence and emotional well-being.
It can be challenging getting started with this kind of a program. We know that a lot of people industry wide, not just in EFT, but anything for online marketing or information. 95% of the people struggle to get moving on the program. So we wanted to give you this call, this recording to help you get started, because if you don't consume it, it doesn't help you so much. First of all, realize that this is challenging for people. You're looking at a really difficult topic and you're going to make a beautiful difference in your life. One of the main things people do that really throw them for a loop is they beat themselves up for what they haven't done in the past. So instead, if you can, they start looking at a topic around finances. And then all the things, I should have done this earlier, I should have done this sooner, I should have done. I should have invested in Hawaiian property, whatever. All that comes up really loud. And we love calling those hamsters. Our friend Reed Mahalko coined that term and it's been really useful for us. Your primitive brain has been trying to keep you safe for a long time. And there's the voices that you internalize from other people and the parts of you that are afraid. And they can come up really loudly when you start looking at this. They think that the status quo is safest. Those hamsters think you're safest if you don't change anything. And so they're squeaking really loud. Squeak, squeak, squeak. You should have done. Yeah, you could have done. And procrastination is born from those phrases. Realize that when you start hearing those hamsters, they're coming out because you're actually making good changes in your life. And they're scared. They're not bad, they're not evil. They do care about you, but you don't have to believe them.
Right?
So if you realize that all those phrases and that noise is just a way to keep you stuck, you can tap on them. We certainly encourage that. But you can also say, okay, I need you to be quiet right now, or I need you to go squeak in the other room while I actually take care of business.
Yes. That feeling of activating the inner professional, that you want to be skillful with your emotions or you would not be engaging this way. You want to have a confidence around money and abundance or you wouldn't be here listening to this. And so we're really delighted that you're doing this. And we acknowledge that you're going to feel things happen in your body. That's part of what we're doing. We're activating things in your body, and if that's not comfortable for you, let's do some tapping to help you take each small step. We're structuring this so that it's small baby steps and you can go at your own pace. You can take care of yourself. And we're going to quiet the hamsters, and we're going to encourage your primitive brain to engage with us for transformation. That will make you not only safer, but also so that you can live a thriving life.
Yeah. Would you like to leave that tap in?
Now, as you start tapping your karate chop, notice what's happening in your body. Feel your butt in the chair, wiggle your toes, and feel your feet on the ground. Just the best you can. Hamsters make us a little spacey. Even though I've got these hamsters, Even.
Though I've got these hamsters.
And I wish they'd be quiet.
And I wish they'd be quiet.
And they've been with me for a very long time.
They've been with me for a very long time.
What if I don't need to believe what they say?
What if I don't need to believe what they say?
Squeak.
Squeak. Squeak. Squeak.
I'm open to feeling surprisingly calm and confident.
I'm open to feeling surprisingly calm and.
Confident, even though this topic makes me.
Feel anxious Even though this topic makes.
Me feel anxious and a bit worried in my body.
And a bit worried in my body.
I am ready for change.
I am ready for change.
And I'd really like to let go of some of these shackles.
And I'd really like to let go of some of these shackles.
Top of the head. This worry in my body.
This worry in my body.
This anxiety, this anxiety. This anxiety about getting started.
This anxiety about getting started.
This anxiety about getting started.
This anxiety about getting started.
This is a little awkward.
This is a little awkward And a bit scary. And a bit scary.
And that's okay.
And that's okay.
It's okay to be awkward.
It's okay to be awkward.
Yes, it is.
Yes, it is.
And it's okay to get started right now.
And it's okay to get started right now. Take a nice deep breath. One of the things we also encourage is to take baby steps often because we're trying to overcome the hamsters. We try to muscle and willpower through all of it all at once. And then when we fall flat on our face, we're like, oh, it failed. The hamsters won. And we go back to Our normal life, we invite you to just keep showing up and doing. We purposely broke this up in small sections to make it easily consumable and so you can go back and listen to the parts that you want to again. But if you show up and watch five minutes of something and do a little bit of tapping, you've changed your trajectory for the day. You've changed the energy around your day, and that's really beautiful. You do not have to get through all of this all at once. You do not have to get rid of every guilt and shame that ever existed to make a difference in your money. And that feeling like you have to get it all perfect, that's another thing that will cause procrastination.
When I clean the kitchen, if I see something that's a little sticky on the floor, I grab a sponge, I wipe just that up. And my kitchen tends to stay a lot cleaner. And your energy and your emotional state is going to stay a lot more vibrant and engaged. And if you approach it as, hey, what do I have the energy for right now? Oh, three minutes. Oh, that brought up something. I'm going to stay with that. I can press pause. That's one of the beauties of this versus an in person course for three days. They both have their place. This particular energy where you're engaging around guilt and shame. It's perfectly okay to take small nibbles, but keep showing up. Let's do some tapping around. Keep showing up.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Go ahead, take a nice deep breath. Even though I think I have to get it all done at once.
Even though I think I need to have it all done at once.
And I should have consumed it a long time ago.
And I should have consumed it a long time ago.
The truth is, I can show up right now.
The truth is, I can show up right now.
And I can keep showing up.
And I can keep showing up.
And that will make a lot more.
Difference and that will make a lot.
More difference than me beating myself up.
Than me beating myself up.
I can keep taking baby steps.
I can keep taking baby steps.
And that feels good.
And that feels good.
Are you just going off?
I'm just going with my flow here. See, tapping is so flexible. And by the way, you don't have to get it perfect. Yeah, you can.
I'm gonna go to the top of the head.
Okay.
I can take baby steps.
I can take baby steps.
Eyebrow. That feels really good.
That feels really good.
Side of the eye. I don't have to learn this all at once.
I don't have to learn this all at once.
Under the eye, I can take a little step forward.
I can take a little step forward.
I'm gonna go to the top of the head.
Okay.
I can take baby steps.
I can take baby steps.
Eyebrow. That feels really good.
That feels really good.
Side of the eye, I don't have to learn this all at once.
I don't have to learn this all at once.
Under the eye, I can take a little step forward.
I can take a little step forward.
Under the nose and let my body acclimate.
And let my body acclimate.
Chin, I can take another step forward.
I can take another step forward.
Collarbone. And really integrate it.
And really integrate it.
Under the arm. I just keep showing up.
I just keep showing up.
Top of the head and making small differences.
And making small differences.
And they add up to a huge outcome.
And they add up to a huge outcome. Nice, deep friend compounded interest.
Yes. Yeah. So the last thing we want to really emphasize to you is if you can celebrate the fact that you're doing these. The baby steps, the tapping. Sometimes when we've suppressed things and stuff around money often gets suppressed, we start letting it up, it'll feel worse and we're like, oh, my God, I'm doing this wrong. There's nothing wrong if you can celebrate your little wins. The fact that you did show up, the fact that you tapped, the fact that you cleared one small thing. Those celebrations engage you and help you feel eager to do more. And that's so important. We don't tend to reward ourselves or be with the positive moments very much. And then we wonder why we're depleted and we don't want to go back. We're like, first we're beating ourselves up for not having done it sooner and we're beating ourselves up for not doing it all at once and not being perfect. And then we're not saying, oh, that was good. So we try to model throughout this encouraging encouragement and appreciation, and we invite you to apply that to yourself as much as you can. Anything you want to accomplish in the world is going to come faster, better, easier, and with more fun. If you put a liberal sprig sprinkling of appreciation in there and so see if you can catch yourself doing something right and something as simple as, oh, my God, that was good. I really, this is cool. Or drop your best friend an email and say, I just did this. This was fun. Or go to the comments in this. In this portal and share what you did. When you celebrate it refills your tank and gives you juice and encouragement to make more positive changes. Would you like to leave a tapping on that?
Yeah, try to. Even though I may have been taught not to appreciate myself, Even though I.
May have been taught not to appreciate.
Myself, part of me feels a little guilty if I do.
And part of me feels a little guilty if I do.
For this moment, I give myself permission.
For this moment, I give myself permission.
To honor and respect what I'm doing.
To honor and respect what I'm doing.
And even pat myself on the back.
And even pat myself on the back.
Top of the head. This is a big deal.
This is a big deal.
Eyebrow. And I'm proud of myself.
And I'm proud of myself.
This is gonna be good.
This is gonna be good.
It's gonna be good for everyone I'm connected to.
It's gonna be good for everyone I'm connected to.
It's gonna be good for my body.
It's gonna be good for my body.
Cast off these shackles.
Cast off these shackles.
Oh, I can't wait.
I can't wait.
Celebrate good times.
Celebrate good times.
Come on.
Come on. Nice deep breath. Notice how good this feels. And notice that you just gave yourself 10 minutes of really connected, joyful time. So a time when you were there for you and you were making a difference that's going to ripple out through your entire Your entire life and to people around you. Your kids, your cat, your dog, your boss, your co workers, your mother, they're going to notice something a little bit different about you. A little more presence, a little more joy. And that does ripple out in the world. You are making an important difference just by being here. And we are so pleased to work with you. We can't wait to see what you create. Notice something a little bit different about you. A little more presence, a little more joy. And that does ripple out in the world. You are making an important difference just by being here, and we are so pleased to work with you. We can't wait to see what you create.
