03 - It Has To Be Hard

Rick Wilkes and Jen use tapping techniques to work through beliefs that money has to come from hard work. They explore guilt around ease and abundance, using emotional release to shift limiting mindsets about what earning requires.
So one of the main objections people have, and a lot of this is due to guilt and shame, is that money has to be hard work. You have to work harder to have more money, you have to work hard to keep money. You have to work hard to not go in debt. And a lot of that stems again from a view of lack. Our society is getting more and more abundant. Not all of us feel that all the time, but electricity has gone down in price so significantly. It used, I think it was the 1980s for one hour of candlelight, a single candlelight, you had to work the 1800s. 1800s, yeah. You worked a 10 hour day to be able to afford that. Whereas now we leave lights on pretty much all the time. We don't think about it because it's so inexpensive to have 100 candle watts of energy or light right there. So even though we don't notice it, life has gotten much easier and we do have more abundance. But we're still linked to the feeling that it has to be hard. And one of the reasons we want you to release this, because it is often linked with guilt and shame. Imagine that you have to walk a mile. Okay. That's your task for the day. And you are out. You go out in front of the house and before you even take a step, people walk up with these big shackles, like 10 of them, and they attach five to each ankle. Big, heavy, rusty ones.
Oh, thanks.
And on the other end of it are things like money is evil, big rocks, cement. Only bad people have money. You can't have more than somebody else. They won't love you. All these old beliefs, these guilts and shames. How fun is it going to be to walk that mile?
I don't want to do it.
You may be able to force yourself to actually walk. And that's what people do. Yeah, I so admire people's courage, the fact that they're still moving forward and they're still trying. You keep trying and thank God it brought you here and you can make a difference now. But the fact that you kept walking all that time with those shackles, when many of those shackles don't even belong to you and they're no longer pertinent to now, they don't belong to now. But you never had a way to get rid of them before. And I love using tapping as a lock pick to get rid of those shackles, to just open the locks up. So realize that the belief that work has to be hard isn't always true anymore. There are times when I will put A lot of effort into something, yes, but that's different from doing something joyfully. If I have to walk a mile and I don't have shackles, that alone makes a world of difference. But if I can do it with joy and I might do it with a friend and enjoy the sunshine and the breeze and the birds singing, that can go from the most horrendous thing where I don't think I can move with those shackles and it might take me all day and I'll have bloody ankles. And if I can make it to something that takes a 20 minute delightful walk in the breeze, and a lot of that's up here.
Certainly when it comes to these emotional shackles, these energetic beliefs and things that we've inherited, this idea that in order to get ahead, you have to work hard. How true does that feel to you? In order to get ahead, you have to work hard. Now, the me that grew up with that belief remembers my mother's face. She worked really hard and she didn't make much money as a private school teacher. And so I'm feeling that, yeah, my mother had to work so hard to get ahead. She was teaching and going to college and all these other things. But there's a constancy that has stayed true in her life that money is hard. Everything about money is hard. Even having a lot of money is hard. And so one of the interesting things that I've seen with people is that even if they're in situations where it could be lighter, they won't let themselves. Because the value being a good boy, a good person, a good worker, someone who is really trying to get ahead and make a difference, that that has to be hard. And that heaviness we can tap on. And part of it comes from acknowledging that that's out there. There are people that this is so ingrained for them that if they look at someone who is skipping that mile rather than dragging the rocks, they'll look at the person dragging the rocks the mile and they go, wow, they are working so hard. I'm so proud of them. What good people. And guess what? The person skipping or rollerblading down that mile, the destination was at the end of the mile. It really was just about getting there, getting something out into the marketplace, getting something that you want to produce as your art, as an expression of yourself, that mild journey, this energy of it has to be hard. Where do you feel it has to be hard? It's got a. In my head, it's got a man's voice in some people's head. It might be their mother or grandmother. Right?
Yeah.
Should we do some tapping on?
Yeah, I'd love that.
Okay. Feel yourself. Feel your heels kind of dig into the ground. It's gotta be hard, right? Activate the energy. When we're doing this, it's about activating the energy. Let it come up as a belief, however intense it is. Even though it's gotta be hard.
Even though it's gotta be hard.
Or it's just not worth it.
Or it's just not worth it.
It's not valued.
It's not valued.
It'll never be applauded.
It'll never be applauded.
And I don't want to be one of them.
And I don't want to be one of them.
One of the lazy ones.
One of the lazy ones.
One of those.
One of those.
There's no respect in that.
There's no respect in that.
I'm open to the possibility that that's an old belief.
I'm open to the possibility that that's an old belief.
Top of the head. It has to be hard.
It has to be hard.
Eyebrow. It just has to be hard.
It just has to be hard.
If it's not hard, if it's not hard. Under the eye, it's not worth it.
It's not worth it.
It's not valued.
It's not valued.
Jen. I'm not a good person.
I'm not a good person.
Unless I'm working hard.
Unless I'm working hard.
I am not a good person.
I am not a good person.
Top of the head. Unless I'm working hard.
Unless I'm working hard.
Eyebrow. It has to be hard.
It has to be hard.
It has to be hard.
It has to be hard.
What if it doesn't?
What if it doesn't?
Who knows? No, it has to be hard.
It has to be hard.
What if it doesn't?
What if it doesn't?
I'm sure it has to be hard.
I'm sure it has to be hard.
They couldn't be wrong.
They couldn't be wrong.
Under the arm. I don't want to be one of them.
I don't want to be one of them.
Top of the head. What if it doesn't have to be hard?
What if it doesn't have to be hard? When you think, when you talk about that. I live in Texas, we're in Texas right now filming this and I think of in the olden days when they had to take horse drawn carriages or ox drawn wagons out here and it would take Months. It would cost the equivalent of $5,000 in that time to get to California, for example. And about 50% I saw somewhere didn't make it. Indians, drought, whatever, that was hard. Whereas Rick hopped on a plane and he probably got served a drink.
Yes.
No peanuts anymore. That is hard.
I brought my own chocolate.
So we are still linking to things being hard, but if you decided that you could only come to Texas by taking a wagon train, people would look at you strange. There's no reason to make it that hard. And I think that we care so much the people that are watching this. I know you. I know you've worked so hard and you care so much and you want to do a good job. So there's part of you that doesn't want to let go of the hard. Because the hard was a way to prove that. That you are courageous and hard working and deserving. And what I'd like to do right now is imagine that little. That younger self, the one that decided that was how to get ahead.
Yes.
Imagine him or her in front of you and see how old they are. Mine's about five.
Mine's seven.
Yeah. I realized that if I worked really hard, I got accolades and just. And I was doing things that were hard for me at that age, too. I was pushing myself, and that got me noticed. So I think sometimes things still have to be hard. Now imagine that little one in front of you and ask them if they'd like a different way of being. And if they say yes, let's just do some gentle tapping. If they say no, you're welcome to tap on you now, but if they say yes, what we'd like you to do is we call this inner tapping. Imagine as you tap on yourself, now that you're in your mind, imagine that you're tapping gently on them.
Mm.
Karate chop. Hey, sweetheart.
Hey, sweetheart.
You did great.
You did great.
I love how strong you are.
I love how strong you are.
And the really cool decisions you've made.
And the really cool decisions you made.
They were the best you could do.
They were the best you could do.
And you did a great job.
And you did a great job.
Look how hard you've worked.
Look how hard you worked.
Would you be interested in a better way?
Would you be interested in a better way?
I know back then there wasn't one.
I know back then there wasn't one.
But there is now.
But there is now.
Top of the head. You work so hard.
You work so hard.
Eyebrow. It's okay for it to be easy now.
It's okay for it to be easy now.
Side of the eye. You thought you had to work hard to be deserving.
You thought you had to work hard to be deserving.
Under the eye. It had to really hurt.
It had to really hurt.
And if it was boring, that counted extra.
And that if it was boring, it counted extra.
10. But we're dealing with money in a new way now.
But we're dealing with money in a.
New way now, Collarbone. We're dealing with abundance in a new way.
We're dealing with abundance in a new way.
Under the arm. Now it's about adding value to the world.
Ah. Now it's about adding value to the world.
Top of the Had a different way of looking at it.
A totally different way of looking at it.
I know. And if you can add value quickly and easily.
And if you can add value quickly and easily.
Side of the eye, that's wonderful.
That's awesome.
Under the eye, you actually have more time and energy to create new things.
You have more time and energy to create new things.
Under the nose. It's okay to let it be easy.
What if it's okay to let it be easy?
Tin. I love how hard you've worked in the past.
I love how hard you worked in the past, Collarbone.
And I'd like you to bring those resources to help me now.
And I'd like you to bring those resources to help me now.
Under the arm. Let's create some beautiful value together.
Let's create some beautiful value together.
Top of the head. And let the abundance roll in.
And let the abundance roll in.
Nice deep breath.
As you do that. Inner tapping. I invite you to allow yourself to really connect to who you were and to allow things to come up. Awarenesses to come up. This is part of using the lock pick. It's the awareness of how was I behaving back then? And I got a flash. I used to love making money shoveling snow. So it'd be a school day, and most of the kids would be out playing, and I would grab a shovel and I would go around and. And I would shovel sidewalks. And, you know, physically, that was a big deal for someone who was 7, 8, 9, 10 years old. But here's the thing. My shackle was that at the end of a day where you made money, you needed to be exhausted, because that's where my mom was. And so I could just feel him at the end of the day. He actually had more energy, muscles, tired and things like that. But there was an energy. And if I. Vitality but the shackle was that at the end of the day, you needed to be tired. It was hard work.
Could we tap on that? Because I know that's something I still carry and I know a lot of people do.
Yeah. Great job. Even though you need to be tired at the end of your day, even.
Though you need to be tired at the end of your day, or you.
Just haven't earned your keep, or you.
Just haven't earned your keep, you don't.
Deserve what you made.
You don't deserve what you made.
And you definitely don't deserve more.
And you definitely don't deserve more.
I'm in the process of picking the lock on that shackle.
I'm in the process of picking that lock on that shackle.
Top of that. You have to be tired at the end of the day.
You have to be tired at the end of that day.
I know. Wow, what a day.
Wow, what a day.
I am so tired.
I am so tired.
I work so hard.
I work so hard.
Out of the nose. What if it could be a little lighter?
What if it could be a little lighter?
Chin. Will anyone still respect me?
Will anyone still respect me?
I've decided to respect me.
I've decided to respect me.
Under the arm. There's a value in making it smoother, lighter, easier.
There's a value in making it easier, lighter, smoother.
Top of the head. And I'm open to re examining my.
Energy and I'm open to re examining my energy.
And not in being bound to making it hard.
And not in being bound to making it hard.
Yeah. When we're bound to making it hard and feel how true that is, I need to make it hard again. Logically, we want to reject that. We want to say, that can't possibly be me. We may even feel a little guilty and ashamed that that may be playing in our life. And I just want to be honest with you. This has been a part of my life. I would talk about how hard I was working. In fact, there was a time when I didn't need to work as hard and I was putting in 120 hour weeks. Why? Because I needed that affirmation that I was still a good boy. And that because I was making so much more money than the 20 employees that worked a regular 40 hour, I figured if I was making lot more money, well, I better be working that much harder than them too. And it was a trap that caused real sickness for me in my body and in my emotions. And so if this is playing in your life at all, Even if it's only a one or two, reducing it. The next step, you'll notice that source energy will start flowing into you as you're creating, as you're doing what you do, and you'll start noticing that there are people out there that are doing the same job. We were in a coffee shop this morning, and there was a person who was making drinks, and she was being nourished by source energy. As she handed everyone over, she said, cappuccino for cece. And cece came over, and there was an energy to her that was very different from the same job being done by somebody else who. It needed to be hard. Foaming was hard. Look, it is. It's a skill. It's a profession to be able to do anything with grace and stamina over the course of a shift. I'm not saying that the job itself doesn't have demands. All work that you're expressing yourself in any way is drawing energy through you. But if you have the shackle of it has to be hard. Wow, that really. You end up morphing yourself and your energy to make sure the world knows that it's hard for you.
And then actually, this is one way I helped release it. Because we all have someone at work that we've worked with, either now or in the past, who has had to make it super hard, and they're always exhausted, and they're like, you can just feel the energy as they move forward and they're forcing themselves. It's exhausting to be around versus someone who's joyful and delighted and enjoying it. So realize as you release this, you'll be more energizing to be around for other people as well. And you're actually creating a different energy when you do this. The work that you create with that joyful, pleased energy rather than that obligation, and we'll talk about that soon, that starts releasing beautiful abundance into the universe in terms of what you're creating and adding value for people around you. And that does come back to you.
Would you just lead us on a quick tapping round to engage with that energy, that beauty. Because again, easy. Ancestral shackle. People who have it easy are lazy, good for nothings. Okay, nice. Depressed. How free does that feel?
Ah, Karate chop. Even though I have to work hard.
Even though I have to work hard.
Or they won't respect me, or they.
Will not respect me, even though I.
Have to let them know I'm working.
Hard, even though I have to let everybody know I'm working hard or I.
Won'T get what I deserve or I.
Won'T get what I deserve.
What if that's an old belief?
What if that's an old belief and.
I can let my job be joyful.
And I can let my job be.
Joyful and my friends and my co workers will enjoy that more.
And my friends and my co workers will enjoy that more.
On top of that, it has to be hard.
It has to be hard.
Eyebrow. They won't think I matter then.
They won't think I matter then.
Side of the eye. I feel guilty about the money I bring in.
I'll feel guilty about the money I bring in.
Under the eye. I feel better if I suffer for it first.
I feel better if I suffer for it first.
Under the nose. I'm kind of tired of suffering.
I'm really tired of suffering.
Tim. What if I don't have have to suffer?
What if I don't have to suffer?
Kalibum what if I can let go of suffering?
What if I can let go of.
Suffering under the arm and realize there's abundance all around me?
And realize there's abundance all around me?
Top of the head. I'm ready to allow this to be easier.
I'm ready to allow this to.
Be easier and allow the abundance to flow in.
And allow the abundance to flow in.
Nice deep breath. You're doing great. These are challenging concepts. They're very deeply rooted for most people and a lot of people don't even realize they exist. So just looking at them takes courage. You're doing fantastic. Keep tapping. If you need to watch these over again and do some tapping, keep doing that and don't expect it to change overnight. Sometimes it does with tapping the lock. You pick the lock and it's gone. But sometimes it's a little bit rusty and it takes a little bit of work to get the key to go, the lock pick to go. Realize there's nothing wrong. And if you start feeling some emotions come up about stuff, it just means your system knows you're ready to let it go. So it's willing to bring up the energy so you can tap on it and release it. Keep up the great work.
