Sleep Now - 5.1 - Waking Up

This is a YouTube video titled "Sleep Now - 5.1 - Waking Up" containing a dialogue between two speakers discussing the challenges of waking up, sleep patterns, self-compassion, and emotional techniques like tapping to improve morning routines and mindset. The conversation explores how internal and external factors influence waking up and offers strategies for nurturing oneself despite imperfect sleep.
Waking up, it's a challenging point in the sleep cycle. Isn't.
Can be. Yeah.
It doesn't always happen at the moment when you're ready to go wee.
Well, sometimes you're just in, you just finally got that nice deep restful sleep and the alarm goes off and it's a jarring noise or the kids come in or you're like oh my God, I forgot to do this meeting. I have to get like we, we talked about transitions earlier. How is your morning transition? Do you give yourself enough time to let yourself wake up a little more gently, a couple minutes to like, oh okay, I can stretch my body and be present with myself and kind of group for the day? Or is it like a five alarm fire just went off and I hit the snooze eight times or three times and I'm late and I have to rush now and I don't have time for any breakfast or any self care. It be really tough. It's, it's not a gentle time.
Always it isn't. And this is where if you're a perfectionist at all, the, the fact that you didn't get exactly the sleep that you had intended to or that you had prepared for can come up and create a vibration in you. And I just, I want to have a little testimonial that for me doing some tapping in a few mornings when it was like, well, how did I sleep? Well, I, you know, I Woke up at 2:30 and I had to go to the bathroom and I. There was often a litany of things that I could come up with. People that are good at self observation can often come up with 10 or 12 things that weren't perfect about themselves or what they just went through. And if that's you, we're going to be doing some tapping in this module to really help you quiet that down. Because when you do, then whenever you wake up, it's a different path. The path of analysis is sometimes feels really shitty.
Yes. Well I like the analogy because I think that people can relate. It's hard for us to sometimes say am I being mean to myself? But would you wake your child, A loved child, a niece, a nephew, your own child? God damn it. You didn't sleep well enough last night. Look what you did. You woke up and you had to go to the restroom. You puttered and you didn't get that done. You didn't lay out your clothes the way you promised. Like would you wake a little kid up? You're going to be tired all day, dammit.
Oh no.
You deserve it. Like, that's how I mean, I have fingers pointing back at me. There's plenty of mornings where I do that, and I'm getting better and better at that. And the mornings where I go, oh, yeah, I'm doing it again, that doesn't mean I don't ever go there. But the resiliency of turning it around going, oh, yeah, I'm doing that to myself again, that doesn't help. It makes my whole day feel kind of crappy. If we can swift shift that and notice, would I ever speak to another human being this way? That can really turn it around for you. I noticed you tapping when we were doing that.
Well, sure, because it's like you said, it's a pattern. We as human beings are often asked, how did you sleep? And we're going to be doing some tapping on that because that question where it goes has a lot to do with our energy around sleep and our energy around sleep, how we feel toward whatever wakes us up, whether it's a cat or like, I still need to tap on the fact that sometimes my cat's idea of when it's time to be fed is two hours early than when I think it is. But as I look at other things that have woken me up that I have addressed energetically, softened when they do wake me up, like my alarm, I have a tone on my. I use my phone. I have a tone on my phone which is pleasing to me. When it starts, stop feeling pleasing, I do a little tapping like, oh, I really didn't want to get up. I really don't want to get up. And it's okay. It's that okay, and it's okay, and it's okay. It's reaching for a neutral place that means that when the alarm goes on, I'm more able to feel into what's right for me. And it could be to turn it off and then stretch my body. It's not necessarily a demand, an external demand. If you're feeling resistance and repulsion to external yanks on you when you wake up, that's another thing. Because unless someone is actually dragging you out of bed, you can carry with you a lot of things. Like, well, how was it when you were a teenager and you really needed a lot more sleep? How were you treated? Write that down. It's time to get up. You know, what you just said, I think resonated.
How were you brought, gotten? How did your parents get you up? How was it modeled even when you were a little kid? I know, I see people where they're rushed and they're in a hurry and they mean well. But the little kid is dawdling and wanting to play. And there's a certain kids have to be taught a pattern and a habit. And you know, the kids kind of dawdling. The mom's yelling, dad's yelling, come on. Like, are you using that voice with yourself? Come on, get out of bed.
Come on, get out of bed.
Yeah.
We as humans are amazing. Our mirror neurons can learn how to be toward ourselves by mirroring back what we saw.
Our brains like, oh, this is how you get up. This is what you do.
You're screaming at yourself. I'm such a good boy. Because I can scream at myself as soon as the alarm gets up in the voice of my mother and father.
Yeah, they don't have to scream. I'll scream for them.
I'm a good boy. And if you have that within you, this program is inviting you to come up with a different energy towards yourself. And so we're going to be engaging this energy and we're also going to leave you with some really sweet energy about how to walk forward in your day. Because it is a choice, right?
It is. There's we have. It doesn't mean that you have a choice about how many hours you got sleep. It doesn't matter that you don't. You can't always change that you have a presentation due. But you can change your energy about it. You can change how you choose to carry and what we believe and what we choose to focus on can make such a difference. It can change that five hour night's sleep to from like, my life is going to be miserable. I hate myself. I can't wait till this day is over. 2. Well, I did get five hours sleep. You know, I'm feeling a little tired, but I'm ready to nurture myself and see what I can create with the energy of the day. And we're going to do some tapping to help you get there.
