Jenny's Panchakarma Experience, Nothing But Joy!

Jenny, a nurse and health coach, spent three weeks at a small oceanside Panchakarma retreat in India to treat chronic fatigue and hormonal imbalance. She got daily oil massages, plant-based medicines, yoga, and meditation. Months later, she still has sustained energy, deeper sleep, and improved skin, and she's kept up a yoga practice with a teacher she met there.

You know, like, I had certain health issues that I wanted to address, and I had been struggling with that for a little while. Before I even got on the plane, like, I felt safe going. I mean, we were seriously cleansing at the center. It felt so clean and detoxifying. If you stay with it, whatever your ailment is, you will cure it. I feel like, like a switch got flipped, you know, because I was in such a nourishing, healthy environment. I could really get to that next level that I wanted to get to. And I feel it. My energy is lasting. I just had a big move and a new job since I got back. And I'm sleeping deeper. Yeah, that's a big one. So it's just easier when I'm on this new plane of existence. I am Jenny. Yeah, I just had 3 weeks of panchakarma, and I'm in healthcare and very interested in learning about different medicines. So I was very inspired to go to India. And learn more about Ayurveda experience. And yeah, all my expectations were met. So I had a wonderful time and learned a lot about medicine. Yeah, so one thing that I heard a lot, which we never hear here, is, is cure. We don't ever hear that word here. We're not allowed to say it. So maybe that's not true. We can say it, but the Ayurvedic medicine, it's an ancient medicine and the people of India believe in it so much and they have practiced it for so long and see that if you stay with treatments, you know, they may take a long time, but if you stay with it, whatever your ailment is, you will cure it. And I just think that was, that's really beautiful, you know. So I felt like there's a nurturing atmosphere around the medicine and a wisdom around the medicine and really a relationship with the plants, which I really appreciate because, you know, we're in this beautiful center with gardens, with the plants that we're using for our our medicine that we're taking every day. And so we get to develop a relationship too. So, you know, here our medicines are based on plants as well, but we don't have such a relationship with the plants. So that's a big difference. I was feeling the energy of the plants, absolutely, with my treatments, and it felt so clean and detoxifying, literally, because we are lathered in these oils with like all the plants, and I felt them very strongly. I had started thinking really seriously about going for panchakarma at some point last year, and it was percolating, and I was asking, you know, friends who had either done panchakarma or, you know, maybe knew about it. Initially, I thought I would do it in the US, and then I realized, wait, I could go to India and full immersion experience it, and I could afford to do that for like a few weeks, you know? It would be like the same as it would to do just like 5 days here, you know? For like 3 weeks. And then I asked a friend who just happened to have been— you had helped and had a really good experience. And so he had referred me to you. That's how we started talking. So I thought about that, like, and it's overwhelming because there's so many centers, like you said, and having talked to you and like, you know, like I had certain health issues that I wanted to address. And I had, you know, certain things in mind about like the size of the place I want, you know. And so that's really hard because the websites were really hard for me to distinguish what the character of the place was. So it was really helpful to talk all that out with you. And I felt like I got a feeling for the place before I went there. And that was really important for me before I even got on the plane. Like, I felt safe going, you know, I was going by myself far away and I felt safe to do that because I knew who was going to be on the on the other side and kind of what my experience was going to be. And then the fact that I knew that I could touch base with you if I had questions or concerns. You know, nothing really came up, but you still checked in with me and made sure, and that was really nice because I felt like if anything happened, I had someone to call, and I loved that. I went with really, really the intention of wanting to balance my nervous system, my adrenals, my hormones, because I felt like I've been struggling with that for a little while. At this transition phase in my hormonal life, there's a lot of things that come up. So that was my intention. And the doctor, you know, they diagnose the doshas for you. And by the end, not only did the doctor notice a clear difference in the balance of my doshas, but I really felt it. And I think I've been home almost a month now. It carries over. I feel like a switch got flipped, you know, because I was I was in such a nourishing, healthy environment, like calm environment that was always encouraged, right? Like we're doing meditation and yoga every single day and being nourished by the plants and the food that we're eating. And, and so my body really could drop in and I could really get to that next level that I wanted to get to. And I feel it. My energy is lasting. You know, I was really tired. I was having fatigue issues and I just had a big move and a new job since I got back. I feel like I have, still have energy. Like I'm not, I don't feel fatigued, and that's amazing. Yeah, my skin feels, feels better. Like, that was, that was another thing that was because, you know, we have, we're on with the oils, you know, every day, and it's just really nourishing. Everything feels better. My joints feel better, achiness feels better, and I'm sleeping deeper. Yeah, that's a big one. So I'm sleeping much deeper, and I, I don't wake up. I was waking up throughout the night. I don't wake up anymore. That's amazing. You know, I have a good morning practice, but I did meet a yoga teacher in India and he's continuing to work with me. And so I can keep my yoga practice. You know, I have someone to keep me going with that. As far as, you know, the foods, because the foods are very different. I'm good at cooking on my own, so I don't think that'll be an issue. But I do think that is a huge part of it all. I mean, we were seriously cleansing at the center. And it's a little harder when we're here in the States and there's lots of restaurants and the places to go. Yeah, so keeping up yoga practice, meditation practice, just being mindful of food as always. I did bring home medicines with me. I brought home oils, some of the medicines I was taking. So yeah, I'll continue with that. It's just easier when I'm on this new plane of existence. Yeah, we would wake up first thing, go to yoga and meditation. And then breakfast. So the retreat that I was at was on the ocean. So any breaks I had between meals and treatments, which was usually like a couple hours a day, I would go to the ocean. And for me, I just went to bed early, you know, so when it got dark, I went to bed. So my days felt very full though, between getting up early and meals and then treatments and then beach. It was a pretty simple life, actually. But that's part of, you know, calming our nervous system and, you know, resetting our bodies is de-stressing and calming and sleeping well, eating well. It's all part of it. But being immersed in that, it really helps to have that time that you dedicate to yourself, that you choose for yourself to just completely focus on your health and like doing a reset. It's really important. And, you know, there was people there that— there was one woman who had gone every other year for 20-something years. So she'd done quite a few panchakarmas, and I could totally see how that is very beneficial. That was inspiring. Would I recommend that? 100%. Just for the reasons I said of, you know, having a point person. I mean, we're going from the States, so to go that far away and not like to know where you're going, to know that you personally have a relationship with that center and have been been to these centers before. I know you've been to several, and to have that point person, it's invaluable. Yeah, I'm so glad that I had a friend, right? You know, it wasn't even on her radar to go, right? And she just fell in love. She's like, she's gonna go back, you know? So just telling people and letting them know, like, it's just really valuable for our health to do something like this, right? I went in the hottest time of the year. Like, there's pros and cons to that. It felt like good in the sense that it felt detoxing in itself because it's very warm. And so it was like perspiring 24/7. That felt detoxifying and cleansing. But, you know, at times it could get uncomfortable, just, you know, not having a break, I guess. Next time I, I might consider trying a different time of year. I went for 3 weeks. I think that was a really good way to start, but it is a long time to be away. So I don't feel like there was a negative. I was in a really, really nice center and felt very taken care of, very nourished, very personable place. It was at max, maybe there was like 12 or 15 of us in time, which it's not overwhelming. That was a good fit for me. You know, I guess we had talked about all these things ahead of time, so we kind of worked all this stuff out. So it became a perfect fit. And I guess that's the benefit of working with you, right? Well, being a nurse, but I also a health coach, I work with clients privately, and one of the things I see people struggle with is their nervous system, like their adrenals. Like, it's— and it's hard to get a hold of, you know. We can do a lot of supplements, we can do a lot of different practices, and, you know, our diets and whatnot, but I feel like this is a way to get ahead of it, you know, to just really get ahead of it. Oh, for sure, for sure. Yeah, I would certainly consider going back to the same center, but I'm also inspired to try other places. Yeah, I believe it. Thank you so much.
