So last week we were doing a series on the five pillars of high performance. And to refresh your mind in case you weren't with us, high performance is just consistently doing better in an area of your life without destroying your body or burning relationships or burning out. So as a high performance coach, I'm consistently trying to help folks find more joy in their life, more confidence in how they approach things, and more engagement in the activities that they do. And with those goals in mind, we know that there are five different areas based on science, based on thousands of sessions and trainings and all this, that if you focus on five outcomes in your life, that you can become even more performant without burning out. So last week we talked about high performers are consistently trying to find more clarity. And the people that are the most successful all have these five things in common. So you can pick your favorite celebrity, pick your favorite business leader, pick your favorite whoever at the top of their field, and you can find these five things in their life. So first is clarity, who they are, how they want to show up, and what they're going after. We talked about energy and being able to create the energy that you need to perform to engage in the activities that you need to, to have that motivation. We talked about being more courageous last week with how you express yourself and sharing ideas and putting your foot down when you need to or having those tough conversations and not doing things like avoiding the tough things. So today we're going to talk about the fourth pillar, which is productivity. So, you know, you're clear on what you need to do. You have the physical and mental vibrancy to go after it. You are fearlessly telling people what you're going after and you're not shutting down from things that might, you know, be painful to hear or conversations that need to happen to help you engage. And we come to productivity. And so many folks have so many things going on. You know, I talk with a lot of entirely creative folks that have 50,000 ideas in only 24 hours in a day to do any of them. And so they do a little bit of this, a little bit of that, and they don't ever have that forward momentum or that progress towards creating their great work to. Towards creating and deepening that relationship or the relationships in their family, or creating the health that they need to show up properly. You know, productivity could be a lot of different things to a lot of different people. Most people think of it in a career time, but it's whatever is important to lighting your life up and giving you that fire and that energy to go up and get after it. So productivity, it's really been an important thing for me because when I first started my career in tech, I did not come from an engineering background, so I had a couple of classes. It was a hobby of mine. Could do, like, the thinking logically stuff, but the actual programming bit was a bit overwhelming. I felt like I was an imposter. And, you know, I would never say no to anything. Like, people like, hey, can you do this? Like, I'll do that, you know, and so you get a lot of this, like, grunt work. You get a lot of things that are not interesting or just kind of tedious. And eventually, like, you say yes to enough things and you burn out because you just don't have enough time in the day to accomplish everything in this work context. So part of that is learning how to say no. Part of it is learning how to say, this is not going to further the project that I'm working on. This is not going to further the quality of life to where I can, like, eat and work out. This is not going to help me advance my career. This is not going to help me add more value to our customers, these types of things. And so just have two questions for you today to help you with your productivity. You know, what are the things in your life that are giving you the most forward momentum towards what you're going after? You know, career advancement, health, family, all of those things are included in that. But, you know, are you working on busy work or are you doing your life's work? Is what one of my mentors says quite a bit. So are you doing busy work? Are you doing your life's work? And what would be your life's work if you could, you know, cut out 10% of the things you do every day and put that 10% on the 10 things that are advancing you and helping your life's work? You know, where you want to go? Like, how would. How would your day change? Right? So that's the first big question. The second big question is, you know, what are the times in your day that you're being distracted, Right? So when does Netflix from the day, when does, you know, friends and social media attract you? When you need to get something done. One are the whatever you do to disengage, to get distracted and not work on what's driving everything forward. I know it's kind of a weird thing. There's a fine balance of rejuvenation and avoiding work, procrastinating, and you'll know what that is for you. So I'm not here to say, oh, you know, you're not doing enough. No, I'm just here to pose that question and to get you thinking about, like when do I fall off my path, when do I get off track and where do I need to course correct maybe or change how my environment set up or have my wife lock down on my social media accounts so that I don't go crazy fighting people on social media or whatever it is for you. It's super important to know that and to, you know, have an action plan to get around it.
