#SYDWAC - Friday Reflection: Gimmie The Power!

Sean Botnier walks through a weekly reflection routine using three questions: what went well, what didn't go as expected, and what you'll try differently next week. He uses a client story about Sally giving her power away to show how owning your emotional response matters.

Sa. Sa. Foreign. Hey, good morning, everyone. Welcome to start your day. Great. Start your day with a coach. I am your certified high performance coach, Sean Botnier. And I'm really happy that you are here today. So today is Friday reflection. So we'll get to the three questions we ask ourselves every Friday in order to reflect, to adjust to, to incorporate the wins, and prepare ourselves next week for success. Right? So that's pretty cool. But before I go into that, I want to share a quick story on something that happened this week where I was working with one of my coaching clients doing some coaching, and she's like, hey, Sean, I'm really struggling with my boss. And I'm like, okay. And she's like, yeah, it was really, really super, you know, stoked on this project. And what ended up happening is like, I presented it, she felt disappointed in me, I felt kind of angry about it, and now I don't even want to do it, you know. And so I asked her the question from based on some other things, like are there periods in your life or relationships that you have where you give your power away to other people, where you. Your happiness, your satisfaction, your will to succeed, your will to, you know, push yourself is based on other people's opinions or based on other people's reactions. And she kind of is like, huh? And so I'm like, sally, like, what are, you know, where are you going? She's like, yeah, I think this might be something I really need to dig in. And it got me thinking that, you know, we should start the show off with this little story. Because, you know, if you are that, that kind of person, I've done this in my life, too. So it's not that a judgment thing, but as you know, you are trying to grind. You're trying to push yourselves, you're trying to, you know, start that business, transform your careers. You're trying to improve the relationships with coworkers, with your spouse or the kids. You know, there's going to be times when you're doing things that make you uncomfortable, right? Or things where maybe you feel a little guilty about it. And at the end of the day, if you're putting out your best, if you are, you know, if you realize that you can control the energy you put into these relationships and situations, then it doesn't matter if somebody else is upset, if you're doing your best, if you're doing it with good intention to try to help lead the team better, to help your, you know, son or daughter be a little bit more adult or whatever, it Is, you know, you know, you're. You're being. You're showing that leadership, and you're approaching it in a very calm, collected, maybe even joyful way. Right. And so with Sally, you know, it really came down to, like, why would you let somebody that is obviously kind of grumpy that, you know, is grumpy impact the work that you're doing, the good that you're putting out in the world, the connections you're trying to make to make your job better? That was a very tough question. So really, at the end of the day, give me the power. Give me the power to, you know, feel the way that I want to feel each day. Give me the power to interact with people the way that I want to interact each day. Because at the end of the day, there's so much you can't control. Right? That's just a fact. Right. There are things outside of our control, and it's silly to hang your hat of happiness on that when really you can create that reality. So that's the message for today as we're doing the reflection. Before we go into the three reflection questions that we do every Friday, if you would share this video with three people that you think might need to hear the message, I'd love to get the word out and grow this community. That would help me out a lot. And I do this for free because I love it. Right? So. And if you have any questions or comments, please put them below wherever you're watching this video to. That would be super awesome. Okay, so you learned about why you want to have the power and the things that you control, right? Things that you can actually manifest in the world be tied to your happiness. Because that's the. The idea. Here's the first question to reflect on the week that we ask every week on Friday. So you guys pumped? Okay. First off, what went really well this week? You know, I could say that coaching call that I had went really well. I feel. I felt really good. I felt like I really helped Sally out in that particular moment. You know, name has been changed to protect the people. But, you know, so. But this idea of thinking through what were the wins and incorporating them on a regular basis. So Friday for us, so what went really well this week? You know, what are you proud of? What did you accomplish? How did you help and serve others at a higher level and, you know, feel that, you know, hold your heart and be like, I, you know, was able to get to the gym every day this week and meet my workout goals, and I feel really great. About that or I was able to finish up that project and you know, at work or at home or wherever. And it feels good. And I appreciate that feeling of, okay, we're good, now it's done and now we can, you know, start onto the next thing. So that's the power of this question is just to incorporate the winds, to really think about our lives and like, okay, we can, we've done some good stuff, put our good out into the world. Excuse me there. Okay. Second question we ask every week is what did not go as expected? Right. As a high performance coach, it's my job to push people into higher levels of performance, of effectiveness, of, you know, that sense of flow and joy. And this question is just getting at where we might need some course correction. So when did I say this week? Okay, I thought this was going to be great. It didn't go the way that I had hoped and now, you know, I have to do something different. So which is we'll get getting ahead of ourselves. So really it's word were the struggles this week and just kind of noting and figuring out, like, why did that happen? It's like, oh, I struggle this week because I had a family member pass away. And that's going to mess up a lot of other things in your life, right? Because that's a big life event. Or maybe, you know, that show on Netflix was just so great, I just binge watched it instead of working. And now I'm behind on everything I need to figure out to not watch Netflix at lunch or whatever it might be. So. Or, you know, I baked cookies and then I ate all the cookies. So maybe I need to ration those out a bit more if it's a health thing. But, you know, so what did you do that didn't go as the way, the way you expected or get you the result that you want. So that number three, what are the things that you can try or do differently next week? Right? So this is that mastery question. This is that advanced question on your performance. You know, maybe you crushed it this week. Maybe nothing went wrong. You're just firing on all cylinders and this is going to be the accelerant. Like, okay, things went really well this week. What am I going to repeat? What am I going to tweak? Because I think I can, you know, get to that next level of output, the next level of connection, that next level of happiness. And so that there's that question for those folks. If you had any struggles or a significant amount of struggles, this is where you develop those contingency plans. We're like, when I have lunch and instinctively open Netflix, I'm gonna tell myself, not today, I got work to do and I'm gonna shut it off, right? There's gonna be a mantra of something, some type of trigger habit. You know, maybe when you are waiting in line, one of my mentors has a really good line trigger where he's like, I'm going to be happy, I'm going to be nice, I'm going to be connected to the people around me and present. And every time he stands in the line, that's what he does, right? So I mean, so it could be a trigger habit like that. It could be, you know, when kids get upset, instead of going into the upsetness with them, I'm going to crack a joke, you know, whatever that is for you. There's so many different rules that could happen for trying something differently. But it's the act of, okay, these struggles happen. These are the analysis part of the last time. These are the struggles that happen pretty regularly each week that I'm starting to notice a pattern. Here's how I can break that pattern. Here's like how I can do the Indiana Jones thing where you take the statue and put like the bag of sand and then run from the big boulder. You know that that's kind of how are you going to swap it? So when something happens, you're on it. So. Okay, guys, that is our Friday reflection. I hope you really enjoyed it. Again, do the social media thing, like subscribe. Hit the notification bell wherever you're watching this. If you have any questions, comment below and I'll get to them as soon as possible after this live cast ends. And that said, guys, oh, before we go to, I want to let you know I have a free video training on the six secrets of highly performing introverts where we go through the six habits everyone has to reach that next level of productivity, effectiveness, connection, joy, presence. And so it's for free. If you check out the link below this video or the link in my bio, you'll see the link to the six secrets of high performing introverts. And if you sign up, you get access to the one hour strategy session application where we'll do an hour of coaching free for you after you apply. Excuse me. So that some allergies today guys. So when you take the application, you know we can have a really good one hour talk and just get into your life and figure out where your breakthroughs might be. Come up with some habits and a plan for you to reach that next level so that you know you are firing in all cylinders, that you are creating the transformation and living the life that you. You really want to. So people love the application because it gets you thinking about your life in a different way. People absolutely love the strategy session because usually there's one or two big aha moments that come out of that just in the preliminary coaching conversation that people are like, oh, okay, like I didn't see that, or I now can go and have a plan to work on this. So take me up on that. Hit the link below this video if you would. And that said, guys, this is Sean Buttoner saying, go live with more joy, more personal growth, more impact in your communities. I'll see you guys on Monday for Monday motivation, where you ask the same three questions to get set for the week. So this is like the bookend. And so we'll start the next shelf. I should really think through that metaphor a bit more on live. But that said, guys, go out there and we'll see you on Monday. Take care.
