#SYDWAC - How’s your morning so far?

Shawn Buttner, a high-performance coach, breaks down his one-hour morning routine: chess, coffee, planning, journaling, working out, breakfast. He argues deliberate mornings build energy and discipline through three pillars: reflection, rejuvenation, and excitement-building.

Day with the coach, where as a certified high performance coach, I help you build and start the day right so you can build the life that you want. Today we're talking about your morning, right? How is your morning going so far? Because our morning routines and habits set up our energy for the day. It sets up our discipline for the day, it sets up our resilience for the day. And it's one of the things that I've noticed in my coaching practice so many people neglect. And for a large part of my life too, I also didn't think too much of it. It was wake up, take a shower, drink as much coffee as possible, maybe eat breakfast and then commute right? And that mad dash in the morning sets you up to feel more stressed, to feel more overwhelmed, and we don't want that for you. So just really quick checking in. How has your morning been today? Do you feel like you were able to set up a positive mental state or did you succumb to negative news and social media? Did you generate the excitement you need for the day to look forward to something, or did you just kind of autopilot through the morning so far, or did you connect with your mission and purpose so you could feel more fully confident and joyful? Or are you just kind of winging it and hoping that the important things and the things that mean stuff to you will happen during the course of the day? So I wanted to take some time to talk about a few components for a great morning routine. But before that, if you think you need a little bit of one on one, help yourself. I do offer a free strategy session. This is how I help people and kind of get people to fill out the coaching process and make sure we're a good fit and all that. And you can check that out@seanbutner.com coaching there you'll see a video about why coaching is so awesome and and a chance to qualify for a free one hour strategy session with me. So I absolutely love these sessions. People get so much. There's usually one or two big breakthroughs everyone has going through this. So if you're willing to put in the work, definitely check out the SeanButner.com coaching for that strategy session. So, all right, let's kind of talk about now. What are the components of a great morning routine? Nice. Hey Dave. Hey Terry. Or Tony. I'm sorry, I see that you've joined. Glad to have you here on the Instagrams, I think, Chris, if that's you, just shout out to you real quick. So for me, part Of a great morning routine is having some type of reflection, having some type of rejuvenation and having some type of excitement building, right? And then on top of just normal maintenance, getting ready for the day. So when you think through your, you know, you get up, what are the next couple of steps that you do? Is it a shower? Is it breakfast? Is it something else that you do to take care of yourself? You know, and for me, I like to make sure that I have at least an hour to get ready. So I got out of the habit of the like 15 minutes wake up out the door to the commute. Because I. I would just be a super stress ball the whole rest of the day. So taking that time to start a little bit slow. And for me, I'll walk through my morning routine. So it's wake up. Usually I'll get up, I'll play some chess. Cause that's been my thing right now with some of my friends on lichess, which is free to kind of get as the mind kind of comes on. And while the coffee is on the pot. So you can see here, trusty coffee, one of my little pleasures in the morning. So have my cup of coffee, usually start to think through my day, do a little bit of planning. You know, I see Chris here likes to read something or hear something inspirational, which is awesome. That's actually probably something I'll steal. Thanks for that, Christopher. And so, yeah, so get ready for the day, start planning the day. Usually I'll do my workout and then I'll eat breakfast, probably make a little bit more coffee, get prepped for this show, and then get ready and make sure that I have my plan for the day finished. And I have a planner. Part of. Of the planning part is also some journaling. So I journal about what am I excited for today, what am I looking forward today, why do I need to perform today? It's something that I really. That process is essential in the days that I am very consistent with those. And I'll be honest, I'm not always 100% consistent with the journaling part. Depending on how crazy the morning is, the days that I do that are fire and the days that I don't do that are kind of up to higher powers and luck and all that kind of stuff. So. Yeah. So in that though, there is like the waking up part, you know, doing a little bit of chess, coffee, kind of getting the systems up. There's a reflection part, which I encourage everyone to have. And then there's the body movement so that your body feels vibrant throughout the day. So that said guys what do you guys like to do? I know Christopher said reading inspirational quotes which is amazing. I'm not sure what else you guys like to do. There's so many like some people do walks, you know talking with folks, you know some people have, you know do some art, some people you know there's so many different ways you could go about it but I really think the three key things is rejuvenation, reflection and then that positive mindset. So that said guys hope you enjoyed this. I'll be here Again tomorrow at 10 o' clock Pacific Standard Time for you guys. Until then practice.
