#SYDWAC - How's Your Productivity?

Coach Shawn Buttner walks through three habits to boost productivity: spend your first work hour on one important task before checking email, work in 50-minute focused blocks with 10-minute breaks, and define projects with crystal-clear outcomes. He argues that scaling output means delegating busy-work to others.

Coach Sean Butner. And today we're going to be talking about those times when, you know, you need to up your game. You know, you need better performance to be more effective in projects, in developing deeper relationships and getting into the best health of your life or just living with more vibrancy and happiness and joy. So have you did an audit of what your productivity is recently? Right, Whatever productivity means to you. Because depending on where you are in your life, what you're actually going after with your ambitions or not, it could be a really tricky question. And I don't think we ask ourselves, hey, how are we doing with creating the things that we need out in the world? So if you've ever felt like you've plateaued in your career or relationships or health, you know, it's because your productivity has been consistent maybe, but hasn't been at that next level of that, you know, that you can reach. So that can feel frustrating, that can, you know, feel kind of uneasy. Then, you know, that's when we start to feel a little bit of restlessness in our life. And so really, the first thing we need to believe about ourselves is that we control how we show up in the different areas of our life. I'm always talking about how can we have more agency in our lives. And productivity is no different because, you know, having an intention to reach higher levels of productivity more effectively so you can get more done with less time. Or to think, how can I do this in halftime? Or to think, if I was 10 times more productive in this particular project, you know, how would my life be different? And as a business owner, having advised business owners before, you know, this question of, do you have to do everything by yourself? You know, sometimes 10 times. 10 Xing. 10, yeah, 10 Xing. Your productivity is getting rid of things that are busy work but don't really help the business grow. So it could be like, oh, I have someone that handles accounting. I have someone that handles the first round of customer support. You know, I have a personal assistant to help with certain tasks that I need done during the day. And so if you feel like you're drowning, maybe it's not how can not how you are productive, but how you can enable others on your team and your family to help, you know, to help get to that next level of awesomeness. So, yeah, really the message today is to think about and rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 today. How productive have you been in this morning? How productive have you been in the past week over the last month? You know, and in that Time frame, right. What could you do to maybe be a little bit more effective, to switch things up, to maybe delegate to 10 times your productivity and just that question itself and reflection on it. I think want to lock a couple of things for you. Some high performance habits that we talk about all the time on productivity, just so you have some strategies too to try out is to, number one, the first hour of your workday, not to check emails, but to plan your day and to do the number one thing that's going to move your projects, your goals, your big ambitions forward. Right. And the reason being is, you know, the inbox, as one of my mentors says, is a very convenient organizing tool for other people's agendas. So if you want to be proactive in creating the life that you want to live better, live fuller, with more vibrancy, you know, we need to take care of what we got to do early on in the day and that really sets up the rest of the day where if you've moved a major project to change careers, to start a business, to ask somebody out, what are you know, to work out to? The list goes on and on and on. If you can accomplish whatever is meaningful, meaningful for you early on in the morning, you'll find that you feel better, you feel great, you have momentum to keep going, to keep pushing, to keep making a difference. And that's what it's all about. Okay? So don't check your emails, the first hour plan and do the number one thing. The second thing we talk about a lot as a high performance habit is black time. So how can you structure your day where you have 50 minutes of focused activity on one task and then 10 minutes of a bio break, getting water, taking little breaks, right? And you know, we go way into that in certified high performance coaching when I work one on one with folks. So if you're interested in that, go to SeanButner.com coaching you can qualify for a free one hour session with me and we can take a look at your life, your situation, provide you some tools and strategies and get you a plan to help progress and to get more productive, effective and awesome, level you up. So, okay, so block time, 50 minutes of focus time with 10 minutes of breaks and all that kind of stuff. The third big productivity idea for you is to make sure you know what's, what you got to do, right? So being very clear on your projects, being very clear on the tasks that'll get to that project and solve it or accomplish it or get it out in the world so you're not constantly pushing things off. That level of clarity on where you're going, what you got to do, what the outcome is, and really thinking through how do you get from where you are to the outcome is basic project management. But it's also something I think is really helpful out in the world. So I thought I'd leave you guys with those three tips. As always, I'm here for you guys. I really enjoy talking with you guys.
