#SYDWAC - Motivation Monday: What to do when we feel consistently unproductive

In this solo Motivation Monday episode, certified high‑performance coach Sean Buttner addresses the common problem of feeling consistently unproductive or unmotivated. He explains that chronic low productivity usually stems from a missing or weak habit within his five‑pillar high‑performance formula—clarity, energy, courage, productivity, and influence. Buttner shares quick, actionable habits (taking a walk, listening to music, maintaining basic health) to reset energy and mindset. He then walks viewers through his three weekly reflection questions: (1) what are you most looking forward to this week?, (2) what is your single most important focus for the week?, and (3) what could trip you up and what is your contingency plan? He models these questions with his own upcoming recertification and community meet‑up, encouraging viewers to comment with their own habits and goals. Throughout, he acknowledges his own low‑energy day, using it as a relatable example of how consistency, scheduled content, and community support help sustain motivation. The episode ends with a call to action for viewers to apply the framework, share their plans, and stay tuned for upcoming shows.

Sa. It. Foreign. Welcome to start your day. Great. Start your day with the coach. I am your certified high performance coach, Sean Butner. And welcome to Motivation Monday. This is the show where every Monday we ask ourselves the three same questions to get the week started out correctly. To get started out, right, to get started out, motivated to get after it. And today is a very timely topic because what do you do when you don't feel productive or don't feel motivated or don't really feel like you're on the path? Right. And that's. We all face this, right? There are times in our lives where we're not 100% on where maybe we're struggling a little bit with our productivity, with our effectiveness, with motivation. And it's usually not a problem if it's a little like short period of time, but if it's pretty consistent over time, then that's when as a coach, you know, I push, you know, it's, it's why people hire coaches. I think a lot of times is when you're like, hey, I know that there's a next level here. I know maybe I'm not measuring up to the idea that I had in my head. And we need to reassess that. And so, you know, what do you do in those situations? Well, the good news is, is if you are consistently not productive, consistently not motivated, consistently not effective, it's most likely in a habit you have somewhere, right? And you know, the high performance formula is, you know, are you clear on what you should be doing or what you want to do or who you really are? And then outside of that, are you doing the basic health stuff? Right? So you're taking care of your energy, physically, mentally, emotionally, all that stuff. Are you taking active action and being bold in, you know, making things happen and not avoiding things that are uncomfortable? Are you focused on the right things and then are you gathering the support around you? Right? Is the very high level formula that I speak ad nauseam about all the time on higher levels of clarity, energy, courage, productivity and influence. And so usually there's going to be a habit somewhere in those five that is slowing you down. And so, you know, even as a high performance coach, like today, I'm not feeling super motivated, you know, and that's not why people probably watch the show. You know, you want a little bit of optimism, a little bit of, you know, that kind of like good energy vibe. And hopefully I'm still providing that even though inside I don't feel super stoked, you know, and it's cold out Today, so. And the sun's gone, so that's probably what it is. So that's what I'm chalking it up to right now. You know, I have my habits where I'm gonna go for a walk later to get the body moving and really just make sure that I'm clear on what I need to do today, which is one of the questions that we talk about on motivation Mondays and just, you know, trying to use and leverage my high performance habits that I have in my toolbox to help keep me, you know, doing what I got to do today to perform, to really impact people. Right. Because that's what I'm here to do. So, you know, how are you guys doing? Like, do you feel like you're a little bit off game? And what do you guys do to get back in a new game? I'd love to hear that. If you'd comment below with what are your favorite habits, techniques, tactics when you need to overcome and you're just not feeling it right? Because like I said, this happens to everyone at some point. Sometimes it happens daily. But, you know, we do have the ability to change. We do have the ability to try new habits, to try new things, to make sure we're going forward. And again, like, one of my favorite tools is to get outside and go for a long walk and just kind of get the body moving, get some air, get some sun, if the sun is cooperating, you know, that type of stuff. So that's one little quick tip habit that I'll share that I do pretty regularly. The other thing is to just play some music that usually helps clear my head. It helps me, you know, just feel motivated, feel happy, so that I feel motivated, you know, so maybe that's an angle for y' all to take. So, okay, that said, let's go through our three questions that we do every week on motivation Monday really quickly. And so what is, number one, the thing that you're looking forward to most this week? Week? So, for me, I have a couple of coaching friends that I'm meeting up with a couple of other business people at the end of the week that I'm really looking forward to. It's almost time for my recertification in my high performance coaching program. And so we got a meeting this week to kind of get connected again with that community before. I think in two weeks, we go for the whole intensive week, you know, building skills, sharing tactics, all that kind of stuff that you kind of just being around peers and people that are doing the same thing that you're doing can really help you hone your craft. Right. So looking forward to that. That's coming up and the, the meet and greet that's happening later this week for that. Yeah. Okay, so what's that for you? What are you guys looking forward to this week? What's getting me excited? What's getting you out of bed? What's getting you motivated? What's getting you super pumped? Second thing is, is what is the number one focus of the week? Right? This is the number one goal that if you accomplished it in the next two hours after this video, you'd be like, okay, every other thing that I do this week is a bonus. Right? So you feel that momentum, you feel that progress, you feel that forward motion because that is such a key thing to do when you are performing, right. You want to feel like you're moving forward and so that's super duper important. So what is your number one focus? And put that below in the comments if you'd like and we'll cheer you on as you go out and grab it. And so third question is, what might trip you up this week and how are you going to plan to get around it? Right, and this is just a kind of like strategic thinking exercise on if this condition happens. This is my plan to deal with it so I don't have to think it up on the fly like doing that. And that tends to get you more, keep you flexible. So if you have 95% or 90% or 70% of the things that could go wrong and you have like, when this happens, this is what I'm going to do, you know, then it's going to be a lot less of a struggle and a lot less hit to your motivation because you're like, oh, I got this. You get doing on, on your backup plan and you move forward. So yeah, so that's really the three questions. I hope you liked it. I know my energy seems a little bit off today, but that is what it is. You're getting the live show. The show must go on. You know, part of my habits of keeping motivated is to keep these shows on schedule, which isn't the most like inspiring thing, but it helps drive me forward. So thank you guys for that. And we'll have a better show for you on Wednesday. We'll have a bang up show for you on Friday when we do the weekly reflection. So stay tuned for that. I'll let you guys know how Monday went. I guess since I'm not feeling it, you know, too much, but that's okay. So Anyways, guys, with that said, go out live. Go out there with more joy, more personal growth and more impacting communities. I'll see you on Wednesday. Enjoy the week. Have, you know, hopefully you're feeling hopeful, excited for something. Hopefully you know what you got to do and hopefully you know what you're going to overcome as it comes up. So that said, guys, take care. See you next week.
