In this solo morning coaching video, Shawn Buttner emphasizes the importance of setting a daily intention as a form of prevention against external distractions such as social media, news, and reactive emotions. He explains how a clear intention helps individuals direct their feelings, prioritize tasks, and stay focused on personal and professional goals throughout the day, week, and month. Buttner outlines a simple morning question framework—asking what matters most, what excites you, and what you need to accomplish in the short and medium term—to cultivate enthusiasm, optimism, and purposeful action. He also highlights how lacking a strong intention leaves people vulnerable to the competing agendas of media and others, leading to unnecessary stress and negativity. The video concludes with a call to action, inviting viewers to a free strategy coaching session via his website to gain further clarity and support in achieving their goals.

Cool. Morning, everyone. Welcome to start your day with the coach. I'm your host, Shawn Butner, and we talk about things to start your day positive, in the right mindset, with the right habits, so that you can build the lives that you want, the businesses that you want, the relationships that you want, that whole thing. So today I just wanted to remind everyone that it's our intention, it's our daily intention that is prevention. And prevention for what? Let me get to that real quick. So imagine that the alarm goes off and you rouse from sleep, and you're just starting to get into your day, and as you have the systems come online, operationalize, you realize something, that it's Monday today and it's time to get into the work week. So how are you feeling? Did you spring up out of bed fully recharged, fully relaxed, fully ready to go, or are you dreading everything, wishing it was Saturday again because you felt exhausted, uninspired, and unenthusiastic for the coming day and week? So we direct how we feel each day. This is something that when I work with clients, I work with them a lot on how do we direct our lives a lot more. And so if you were excited for the week or not, you know, what was your intention behind there? Are you clear on how you wanted to feel today and this week? Are you clear on what you want to accomplish this week? And are you clear about how to go about it all? Because if we believe that how we direct ourselves each day or that we can direct ourselves each day, and you weren't happy with answering that question of how. How clear you are this morning, it's probably because you didn't set a good intention. And when we don't have intention, we are influenced by other people's intention. So 10 years ago, we didn't have all of this social media, all of the news trying to make us riled up, to get a rise out of us so that they get eyeballs, right? So what that means is we have competing intentions. We either set one that we have for ourselves and it's very strong, and we're able to focus on what we need to focus on during the day and not be bothered by the rest of it. It'd still be informed, but you don't have to have that emotional impact of everything that's out there, or our intention isn't strong enough. And that's when we get hooked into Facebook. That's when we get hooked into watching the news. That's when we get hooked into yelling at people out in the street because we feel threatened on something that doesn't directly happen to us. Right. So much of the vitriol I believe out on social media is because people thinking other people are doing things that they're not really doing, which is really silly, but that's a whole tangent, maybe for a whole other video. So essentially, you know, what we need to do is create that good intention. So how do we create that awesome attention each day? It's asking simple questions in the morning, like what's important to me today, what really matters to me today, what is, what am I excited for? What do I need to complete today, in the next 30 days? Both of those. And you know, thinking through these can help us prioritize how we want to feel. Right? It's really hard to get annoyed that the Suez Canal is blocked when you know you have to show up for your family. You know, it's really hard to get upset about the new political thing when you know you have to deliver for your customers or you have to deliver for your team. You have to lead effectively, you have to show up and put your positive energy out in the world. So it really comes down to this. Our daily intention is prevention from all these things that are vying for our attention, which is a lot of rhyming, a lot more rhyming than I thought for 8 o' clock in the morning. But we need to be clear on what you want today, what you want this week, what you want in this month so that you can be more enthusiastic, more optimistic, more ready and able to advance your big goals and ambitions.
