#SYWWAC - Three Habits For Your Morning Routines

In this live YouTube session, certified high‑performance coach Sean (Shawn) Buttner introduces a new format for his Monday live shows and provides updates on his Meaningful Revolution podcast, which now has three seasons of interviews and solo episodes. He then presents a systems‑based framework for an effective morning routine, arguing that a positive mind, energized body, and purposeful soul are essential for daily high performance. He outlines three core habits: (1) Journaling – gratitude, daily priority, and potential obstacles; (2) Movement – any physical activity (stretching, yoga, running, lifting) to generate energy; and (3) Transition rituals – showering, dressing, brief meditation or self‑talk to shift into “go mode.” He offers a self‑assessment method, asking viewers to rate each habit on a 1‑10 scale and note three words explaining the score, to diagnose gaps and improve. Throughout, he promotes his free Inspired Community (community.seanbutner.com) for peer support and coaching, and references specific podcast episodes (e.g., with Mike Seeley on gratitude journaling and Carrie Petrie on wellness routines) as further resources. The session ends with a call to action to join the community, share scores, and tune in for future live shows.

Hold on a sec. All right. Okay. Hey, everyone. Welcome to start your day. Great. Start your day with the coach. I am your certified high performance coach, Sean Butner. It's been a while since we've done one of these wild, one of these live morning things. I just wanted to say, number one, I'm going to be switching up the Monday show. It's going to be a live show, mostly on YouTube. So you'll see that wherever you're watching this video below, you can still watch it on Instagram. I still will be recording it there, but, you know, primarily be looking for comments and for what people are saying on YouTube. So if you have any questions, place them there. Go to the. The YouTube link below, if you would. So a lot has happened in the last couple or last month, folks. So I launched a podcast called the Meaningful Revolution. And. And there'll be a couple of callbacks to that later today. So super excited. So just a little bit of an update as we get the whole streaming thing warmed up. So that's been going really well. We have over 20 episodes now. Started season three. So the first season is primarily interviews. The second season is me kind of talking like this in a podcast format. Third season is back to interviews. I think I really enjoy that the most. So. So. And I've had some amazing folks on the podcast. So whether you want to learn a little bit more about leadership and someone that's really done a lot of great, like leadership stuff in pharmacy with my man Emmanuel George, or you want to learn about the power of ritual with my good friend Nicole Sugihara, or how to create authentic educational moments with my oldest friend, James Holtgren, and so many more coming out starting every week. It's pretty wild. So super excited for that. Now, this show, I'm trying something new where on Mondays I'm going to go live for you guys to ask questions, to go over something that'll help you advance in your life. And then we'll try, you know, going normal lives, I guess, or the way that I had been doing it the last for Wednesday and Friday. So that's the plan right now. I realized that going live three times a week, trying to provide hints and habits and tricks and strategies for y' all to advance was a bit much. It was. It was a little bit. It started to feel I was just repeating myself over and over again on certain things. And, you know, a lot of you probably hadn't heard that stuff the first time, so that's probably fine. But I'm also trying to think, like what helps me really get great content out to you guys regularly. So I think these live shows going into my newsletter are going to be a big part of that. So again, hit me up on my YouTube channel and leave comments. Subscribe. Hit the notification bell there. If you are on Instagram, I'll try to notice you on the phone. Right there for you good folks. So today we're going to talk about three components to a amazing morning routine. Because as someone that's a systems trained, as a systems person, someone that is also a high performance coach, we talk a lot about in high performance, how you can win the day in the morning and personal development. There's a dime a dozen different ways to win in the morning. And the reason why it's so important, the reason why I brought up the systems things earlier, is that there's this adage that garbage in is garbage out. So if you wake up and you ready your mind for positivity, for excitement, for, you know, resilience, if you ready your body to be energetic and carry through the day, if you emerge, know, ready your soul to feel the meaning and the connection and importance of what you're going to do, that is a recipe for success. If you're like me when I first started out in software where you wake up, you rush to get a whole pot of coffee in you as you like, take care of getting ready for work and you wake up and you're out the door in 10 minutes, you know, rushing right into your day, that is going to create a lot of anxiety. That's gonna create a lot of stress and a lot of needless stress that you don't need to start the day with. So when we're thinking about how do we get our performance edge, how do we make sure that we are our best so we deliver our best work, the best value, the best impact to our organizations, our customers, the people around us, you want to start the day in that positive headspace. So I have three must have strategies. I'd love to hear yours. I do have a community for us all to discuss. The blogs, the podcast. I'm calling it the inspired community because inspiration is clarity and motivation act and then following through. So that's what we're trying to cultivate there. If I could boil it down to one word, it's the inspiration. So that said, you know, we really need to be aware of how we start the day again. And so three things that I think really help people excel when it comes to starting their day is, you know, number one, I always say this, it's journaling, right? It's writing down what you feel grateful for in the day to kind of develop that positive psychology. It's thinking about your big goal for the day, the number one thing you got to do, and getting on it as soon as you can, you know, making sure that that's the plan for the first hour you are working. And it's really helping you generate and think about what am I excited for today? What might trip me up if you're feeling a little bit advanced, like what's going to trip me up and what can help me really thrive in those types of circumstance where, you know, you have that plan B, you know what you need to do if, you know, the person doesn't show up at work or if somebody calls in sick, or if you get caught up on something technical on the project, if, you know, you're in tech like I was. So, you know, journaling is a really powerful tool for getting your mind straight. Another component I think of. So if your mind is positive but you're exhausted, you're not really going to be able to be your most effective and get the most, have the most impact during the day. Which is why the second point is to incorporate movement, right? Is that yoga? Is that running in the morning? Is it lifting? Is it just doing some stretches and some breathing exercises, something like that, to help you generate some energy and to help you set that base to go. Because you know, you don't go in the car and expect to go drive to work if the tank's empty, right? You need to fill the tank up. So you got energy, you got fuel, you got the go to make things happen as you go through the day and you're not constantly trying to refuel as you're driving the car. And so many of us, myself included, have done that, are do that regularly. So that's second component, I think, to a really solid morning routine. The third is to have transition habits, right? These are the things that help you get ready for go mode to jump into your performance edge. So things that you might traditionally do in the morning to transition into productivity is you take your shower, you get ready, put on your fancy clothes, make your hair fancy, all that kind of stuff. Maybe you read the paper and have a cup of coffee, you do some self talk, you know, you take a moment and do a quick meditation maybe right before you start your work day or your productive part of your day. I like to say productive part of your day because it could be, you know, taking care of the kids. It could be, you know, you know, going to the non profit, making things happen. It could be, you know, taking care of a sick family member. You know, there's so many different ways that people work during the day, and I like to kind of expand that definition. But what are your journaling habits? Like? If we were to look in the last week, how would you rate yourself on a scale of 1 to 10, and how well you've reflected or journaled about your life and what you want to do? How would you rate yourself on movement and exercise in the morning to generate that energy so you have the fuel to go and go forth and crush and conquer? And how well have you managed that transition into the productive part of your day? Right. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being awesome, 1 being not at all, not thinking about it, no intention, that kind of stuff. And then for each of those scores, anytime we do any type of scoring, I like to say write three words that describe why you assigned that score to yourself in this moment. It could be good, it could be bad, but the intent behind that is to diagnose and say, okay, what could I do tomorrow to maybe up that score by one or two points? Or what could I do to dramatically increase this? Or what can I do to get to that next level in my journaling, my movement and my transition times? And I think that will serve you so powerfully. And I know it has for me, especially when I'm able to do it consistently. Cause full disclosure, like, I will sometimes, you know, be really great at all three of these. The times when I'm like, why is my energy so low? Why am I struggling at being super productive in my business? It's because one or more of these things have been missing in my morning routine. And it's super important to remember that, right? And we're human, and there'll be ups and downs, and it's just how you roll with it. How do you not beat yourself about it? But say, you know what? Today is the day that I change. Today is the day where I'm going to, you know, not beat myself up, but I'm going to get back on track, right? It's such a powerful mindset to not be knocked down, when we stumble, when we fall, when we don't follow through with what we intend for our lives. And we say, you know what? Today's a new day. I can get back on track, right? And I think we need a lot more of that out in the world. So, yeah, rate yourself on those three if you're looking for some new ideas or you have your ideas of your own. You can always go to community.schombacher.com link below this video or on the blog, join our community and get in discussion with like minded folks. Right? I've built this inspired community because I really want to have that place where we can encourage each other, where I can cheer you guys on when you're like, hey, I started journaling and it's really working for me and I want, you know, to be able to say, oh awesome, you're doing great, keep going. And I want our friends and our peers and people that are on the journey with us to be able to do that too. So that's why I created that space for us. So it's free to join. So please go click on the link below or go to community.seanbutner.com again sign ups for free. Let us know how you're doing. If you have questions, if you need help on hey, I have this situation in my life where, you know, Sean, like you don't understand. I have so much things, I have so many things to do. I have kids, I got, you know, the dog, I got, you know, work and all this kind of stuff and I can't take care of myself in the morning. Well, get in the community. Let's figure it out and do a little bit of coaching there for you, help you get back on track, help you get, you know, win the morning so you can win the day more times than not. So really excited for you that and if you wanted some more ideas on morning routines or how you can do a little bit more with your self care, you can always check out my Meaningful Revolution podcast. There's a really great episode that I'll put a link below or in the blog for this episode on with Mike Seeley talks about doing morning gratitude journaling and his habit of having his journal ready, having his prompt ready so he just has to wake up and write his three things. There's a really cool thing with behavioral economics of just making the environment conducive to what you ought to do. So there's a little bit of learning there. Just that technique of getting your running shorts ready, getting your journal ready, getting the coffee ready so you just have to like heat up the water and get it all poured and all that to really amp up your day. Also this Thursday, which will be early September, September 5th I think. Can't do date math on the fly. I'll have an episode with Carrie Petrie talking about her wellness brand and eat move, breathe, which was her three steps, which is another way to maybe examine your morning routine if you're looking to amp it up, to feel a little bit happier, to feel a little bit more on task on purpose, to have that greater impact in your communities. So with that said, guys, that is this week's start your week with the coach again, I'm your host, Shawn Butner, and go to the community and ask me any questions or comments or let us know how this is helping you so we can improve, we can cheer you on, and we can, you know, get in the game together. So with that said, guys, have a great day, and we'll see you on Wednesday for start your.
