What is High Performance Coaching, and the AI Enabled Professional?

Sean Buttner, a certified High Performance coach, explains how to become an AI-enabled professional by integrating tools like ChatGPT and Midjourney into your workflow. He walks through his own podcast production: AI turns a raw transcript into a YouTube description, summary, social posts, and recap in 30 minutes. Five concrete steps: learn the tools, identify what AI can automate in your work, master prompting, validate outputs for accuracy, and embed it into your daily routine.

In today's video, we're talking about what is certified High Performance coaching? How does it relate to becoming an AI enabled professional and why you should care about AI in general in regards to your personal development and productivity. So if you don't know me, I am Sean Butner. I'm a certified High Performance coach. And that means I'm constantly pushing clients to get out of their comfort zone and progress consistently and sustainably without burning out. And when you're able to live into your full self, you have that sense of confidence, sense of joy, sense of presence that comes from living into your best self. And so I've been doing this for seven years and also had a career in technology before that. And why is that relevant here? It's relevant because with the new set of AI tools, we have opportunity. If you do anything with words or communication or things that require text output or even video, there's, there's so many other things that are happening in the AI space now that we can enhance our ability to create and an advanced rate, and that could be just being more prolific, getting more of the things out. It means punching above our skill weight, meaning that if you are an okay copywriter, you can be a great copywriter with AI assistance. It requires some mindsets and thinking through how to apply these technologies thoughtfully, ethically, in a way where it's a tool extending you versus just having a robot operating and creating it. So when I talk about performance, I'm talking about how do we perform better, how do we live better out in the world? Now when we talk about an AI enabled professional, it's just someone that has identified in their workflow places where these new crazy tools can enhance our productivity and our quality of life in a lot of different ways. And let me give you an example of such a scenario. Right? So I host a podcast you can see on this YouTube channel or in my newsletter called the Meaningful Revolution podcast, where it's interviewing people about what they're passionate about and then talking about personal development. And each week I create an episode, I get a transcript, I put that through ChatGPT, have it generate a lot of the base copy for podcasts, meaning the YouTube video. Description summary, three paragraph podcast summary, three social media posts, a bulletproof summary of the podcast. And this is something that used to take me like four, four to six hours to get the words right and get it out of my head and make sure that it's all kind of cohesive and clear and overly complicated. Could do this in a half hour. Using this tool to Generate it and then the work after it because your work's not done generating this stuff from the transcript, which again then it sounds like me or sounds like me and the guests that I'm talking with. The work is validating and updating and making sure it does still sound like me. Right. So that there's this validation follow up step. It's more like editing. Right. So you're. I spend more of my time editing and thinking about does this cover everything that it was supposed to and gets me at least 80% of the way there in a half hour, 15 minute, half hour and then the rest of the hour validating it. And it works gangbusters. As a podcaster, the main skill is interviewing someone or talking about personal development in a way that engages people. And that skill doesn't change because of AI. But the follow up of creating all that descriptions and the social media posts and all that is able to be enhanced. And so that's what I mean by an AI enhanced professional. It could be that you're a doctor and you send emails out to clients or patients and instead of spending 15 minutes writing out something and you could do that in five minutes. So there's just opportunities in any workflow to save time, to save resources, to get clear communication. And Maybe in that Dr. Scenario, you're doing it in a way where you're a little bit warmer than you would be because you could tell the AI to be like, talk like me, but also be empathetic at sharing this news with this family. Say there's tons and tons of examples where teachers, therapists, coaches, software engineering, there's a lot of tools right there where it'll, if you know what questions to ask, you can increase the output of the code that you're creating by a factor of a hundred. It's pretty insane. So how do we get from being a normal, just not normal, just a professional? Right. Someone that has expertise, has been in their job for a while or is just starting their career and identify how to utilize these tools that are available to us and how do we keep on top of it, the pace of everything coming at us, doing this all in a way again, that is authentic to us, that is an extension of our ability, helps us achieve our career goals, helps us get in the game. Because I've been talking a lot about in the channel and with my clients and in my communities, it's AI is not going to take your job. It's going to be somebody that is talented at using AI, that can. And so you want to Be that person. That's why I've been shifting the focus of all this towards that AI enabled professional. And that's when I hope that you want. Also here are five quick things you can do to really start playing around and I'll talk about some follow up stuff here soon too. First thing to do is to get familiar with AI tools. And I've been using ChatGPT right now I know there's Google, Bard, there's jillion new tools coming out literally every day around with a very specific like writing thing to do, copy, there's Jasper. I actually don't know all the tools and I'll be very frank about that because it's just a lot to take in. But I have used ChatGPT, I have used Bard a little bit. There's a lot of AI just baked into a lot of things anyways and I feel my thinking is looking at what's going out there that you'll see Microsoft and Google and Apple continue to bake in AI functionality into a lot of the things that you use every day. And that's great, right? So it's not going to be a huge jump to start using these tools, but there's also going to be specialized tools. So like tools like ChatGPT which understanding how the AI works, which you can do with it, one will help you have a more coherent way to think about it if you have experienced it. And someone's AI is going to create a robot that kills everyone. And that's a valid fear, but maybe it's a little bit hyperbolic right now for what the capabilities are. Being able to play around with stuff can really help you address that and figure that out. Get familiar with it, right? Start playing with tools, start thinking through what are the outputs that you do daily that you know, you spend a lot of time on that you don't want to or you don't fully enjoy. And maybe getting some AI assistance in those tasks or those outputs can really help you. Which leads me to my second point, which is to identify parts of your workflow that you can enhance. And so what I'm looking for is if you're doing reports consistently, the types of communication you're doing consistently, if you're doing any type of copy or copywriting things that generally you generate in text like a Word document or Pages or Google, whatever the Google equivalent is, I'm escaping me right now, whatever the Word documentation tool you use, if you're using one of those generally you could plug that into. That's a easy way to think maybe I should try using Chat GPT to generate this. So like a common case I've seen recently is a lot of people talking about creating your resume using ChatGPT. And as simple as I'm creating a resume, here's my experience, here's my other relevant information, credentials and leadership and all that type of stuff. It can generate the formatted resume in seconds, right? And then it's massaging and updating it and making sure that it's true with things that you've actually done. But again it's a way to kick start and get ahead of the curve and just save some time for something that you're probably doing anyways. What are those things where you are again generating text in your daily workflow for your job or for what you're doing day to day? Start playing around with ChatGPT sick because you can get for free Google Bar, right? It's not as awesome as ChatGPT right now, but it'll get better because we're still in the early game of all of these tools. It's just there's a lot of things happening. The third thing to really be experimenting and playing with right now is to understand how to ask AI tools questions. Each tool is going to have its own unique format, but my experience in technology is there's general frameworks that you can follow, so there's generally going to be some type of role you'll ask it to play, some type of context, some type of particular formatting or instruction for it, and then an iterative following up with more questions like a conversation. That's the basic layout that I've seen with a lot of the tools that I have played with aren't just baked into things like more of the like type stuff. So learning what the systems are capable of, what you can ask, how you can ask more effectively is going to be one of the main skills in this AI enabled professional world that we're moving into. The other one again being that validation that making sure that it's authentic, that kind of editor role through making sure that it's not giving you fake law cases for the illegal sending which has happened, or creating stories or getting facts like 99% correct where maybe it's a similar story to another thing and it just meshes it together because I've seen be one of the things that happens enough to really warrant some scrutiny. But again like you can, it's easier to edit content that has been provided to you than it is sometimes to create for yourself, especially if you get stuck or you get feel resistance. You can help you get over that. So how to so it's really great to understand how to ask those AI questions and a loose framework and then adapt it to whatever tool you're using Midjourney ChatGPT one of the others and if you don't know what those are again I suggest just go to OpenAI.com and check out chatgpt and it's think about it as collaborating with a coworker. That mindset will help you ask it questions in a way that's a little bit more conversational and you'll be pleasantly surprised. I was amazed for Stratit a couple months ago. One last thing to think about as you consider becoming an AI enabled professional and what that means is to realize that again, this is a tool that's an extension of you. So it can help you learn or it can help you punch a lot above your skill. Meaning that if you are a beginner programmer, but you understand some of the technical things that you need to do to create a program that performs well, is quick and doesn't have bugs, you can ask ChatGPT to analyze code or to create particular function for you that you can build off of. And it's not any different than using like stack overflow or one of those types of things if you don't know what that means. Essentially what I'm saying is it can make a beginner programmer act as an intermediate programmer, an intermediate one act as a more advanced kind of way you actual performance and skill can be enhanced. You could also ask it how to explain complex things and summarize it really quick and it's really powerful for how quick things are changing. So if you are like okay, this is a new AI tool, I don't know how to use it, you can ask the AI tool what's the best way to ask you how to create a picture or create an outline or summary of research or whatever it is. And the tools should be able to help you with that too. It's an exciting opportunity right now for all professionals to figure out how they can enhance their productivity, skill, and therefore their quality of life. I'm saying this to not to ignore a lot of the valid worries that people should be thinking of, but it's also in my opinion, important for each and every one of us to get some hands on experience with these tools to actually see what's going on and how it could help or how it could go bad in order for us to make smart choices when it comes to regulations or talking about it with regards to friends and family. So that's my message for you again, thinking about how you can take your profession, the things that you do every day, the things that you love and find meaningful, and how can you become even more prolific, how can you increase the rate at which you produce things and the quality with some of these assistive tools? I think the sooner you can do it, the more that you can show up in your the more you can show up in your work, the more that you can be a leader here as we go forward with that.
