Rejection is redirection!

Susie Taaffe argues rejection is redirection toward what actually fits you. She shares how a failed stock shipment led her to a local manufacturer who became a partner, and offers breathing, sunlight, and music as immediate tools when rejection stings.

Good morning, everyone. Hi, I'm Susie, and this is the Susie Unshaped Sessions, where we are unshaping all the old belief systems and negative self-talk and anything basically that takes you away from your heart and keeps you stuck in your head. So, um, I was going to talk about something different today, Um, and then this topic has sort of come front and center, and that is about rejection. Um, you know when you think something is really gonna work out and it just doesn't, and you really feel— well, this is really Susie Unshaped today. I'm like, got hair going everywhere. Anyway, um, something you think is going to work out, or you don't get a job, or you don't, um, you don't— like, a deal doesn't come through, or even it could be in the dating world, or, um, any of those things where rejection— and I think our old patterning is that it means that, well, there's something wrong with me. What's wrong with me? Um, like, like, what did I do to deserve this? Or what did— like, I really thought that was it. And I think that is up here thinking, not our hearts thinking. So we're going to take a deep breath in and let it all out and realize that our— actually, our hearts are way smarter than our heads. So our heart knows things that our head doesn't. So our head is going to try and think our way through the rejection. Mm-hmm. But really, it's our heart that has to feel our way, and it can feel— so what we feel is actually the subconscious programming in our head that we're not enough. So rejection means I'm not enough. So we, we take that on board, whereas instead of that, I'd like to propose that we reframe it as Reject— reject— can't speak. Rejection being purely redirection to a path that's actually going to be more aligned with your heart. So you can't see it at the time, but I know— I would nearly guarantee that every single one of you has looked back on a situation and gone, oh wow, yes. Mm-hmm. I get it now. I can see why either that had to happen for that path to be opened up, or why that was actually protecting me from something else. Like, it won't happen all the time. Lots of the time we just actually have to sit with the fact that we may never know what— why it didn't work out. But I'm sure you can think of one example where you can look back and go, in hindsight, I can now see that. So— It's about trusting that there's a bigger plan for you and trusting that, um, you are exactly where you are so supposed to be. Um, trusting that in your heart. And it does take a little bit of surrender. And I would say I'm probably a little bit of a control freak, so learning how to surrender without knowing and trust that it's going to be okay. Has become, um, an incremental process for me, I would say. Like, sometimes I'm really good at it, and sometimes I have to dig really, really deep to figure out what it is. So I just had a phone call with a lovely friend, and she was like, I'm missing something. What am I missing? What is the piece that I'm missing? And I said, well— And so we sat in it for a bit, and I was like, well, Maybe you're not actually missing anything. Maybe it's just that wasn't the right door. Obviously it showed it to us that the door was like really wonky and it didn't open very easily. And in fact, I think monkeys were operating that door. But, um, if you want, um, and that's what I said to her actually, is like, those monkeys, they're just peeling bananas. You're trying to like create a rocket ship to the moon. So You can't get a monkey that only knows how to peel bananas to understand your concept of building the rocket ship that goes to the moon. It just is, it doesn't fit. It's a little bit like the fingers, me banging my head, trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. So that's like an aggressive imagery, but think about it as what if, what if the universe was showing you the square peg and the round hole? Even though your mind thought it was a round hole and a round peg, or which one, whichever one I said, whichever one would fit. So your mind thinks it's that, but the universe is saying, no, actually that's not the fit, that's not it. And so they're going to redirect you. And so you don't go down a path. And if you try and jam the wrong shape peg into the wrong shape hole, you could maybe, you could get there, you could get some tools, you could maybe try and chisel it down like And still keep trying to make it fit, but you're just wasting time for where you're supposed to be. So you just breathe into it and surrender to the fact that you may never know why there was that rejection, but you need to trust in the fact that it is redirection to a path that's going to have you much more aligned in your heart. To a path that's going to bring you much more joy and that's going to flow with ease. I'm not sure if you've heard the— like, life is supposed to actually be easy when it's good and flowing. That's when everything is, is in alignment and you're living from your heart. And when it's hard and edgy, Mm-hmm. pull back, breathe, maybe go and sit in the sunshine, go and Play your favorite music. Go and cook a beautiful, delicious meal. Go and hug your babies or fur babies, or go and hang out with your favorite friend that makes you laugh. Because I can promise you, banging that peg is not going to get you anywhere. So the same beautiful friend who did feel like she'd had a big door slammed shut— and as I said, the monkeys aren't going to understand how to get to space— She's actually flying off to another city now, and she's got a beautiful fun day ahead of her, and she's going to a fun James Bond-themed party tonight. And I said, that is actually the perfect thing you can do because we can't do anything about the monkeys, but we can do stuff for ourselves. So her going doing all those amazing things, it is actually going to put her in a lighter mood and allow life to just flow again. And then that's when the inspiration can pop into your head and show you maybe what the next steps are. So I'll give you an example. I remember once I had a load of stock that had turned up from when I was first starting my business, and it would have been delivered from China, and I was like, oh my God, the stitching's not strong enough. So I had invested absolutely everything into this. I was in debt double what I was earning a year. This was my side hustle. I was just like, Devastated. And I went to bed that night completely surrendered to— actually, I didn't quite have the trust part then. I was just surrendered to, I don't know the answer. And prefaced with me being a bit of a control freak, I like to have a plan. And so me free falling without a plan is something that I have had to learn what to do. But I was literally free falling that night with absolutely no plan. In the morning, I woke up. Burst of inspiration, so I went out to a manufacturer. I thought maybe they can fix it, and she looked at and went, "No, we can't fix that." And I was like, then depths of despair again. And then I actually did surrender into trust. I spoke to a lovely friend who's actually a clairaudient, so she can hear things, and she said no. They're wrong. You are going to find someone that can fix that, and they're going to do it at a much cheaper price than that factory would have charged you, um, the local factory would have charged you. And she's going to be really appreciative of the work, really appreciative of the work, and you're going to end up becoming quite good friends. And so, um, she said— and she even gave me some guidance— she said, you need to look on like Airtasker or, or one of those outside of the box, like don't Google it, you need to look at those sorts of options. So we found one at first, but she wasn't the right fit. And so I trusted my gut. I was like, this doesn't feel right. And so we kept searching and kept searching. And I did, I found exactly the person she was talking about. She said she wasn't going to live right in my city. She was just going to live a little bit down and she did live an hour away. And slowly over the course of the year, as I could siphon off money to pay to have certain batches fixed, like I had 7,500 pieces to fix. So I would send her maybe 200. Maybe I could afford 200 this week. Then I would send her 300 the next week. Maybe it was 100 the week after that. And slowly, step by step, we fixed every single piece of stock. And she's still a good friend today. She's a fantastic manufacturer. She went on to create her own manufacturing business. But the guidance was actually spot on because she had just moved over from Fiji and was new to the country. And didn't have any work. So the fact that even the little bits that I could give her, that helped her to establish herself and get on her feet and start and just have a little bit to get going. So it was actually a win-win for both of us. So that's my little story for today. So I challenge you next time you feel rejection. Um, whatever form that may come in, to take a deep breath and turn this off, because this is going to tell you it's you. It's not you. It's not you at all. It's just you're being redirected to another path that's actually going to bring you more joy. So that's your prescription. It's, it's not you. It's redirection. Some big deep breaths. I'll link my Golden Glow meditation, which is just a quick 10-minute thing you can put on if you want to just come back into your heart and just realize how amazing you are, how special you are, how miraculous you are, because you are. And life is supposed to be fun and easy. Okay, so with that, have a beautiful day. Love you lots. Bye.
