Surprise!!! I moved countries with my three kids, no plan, just hope it would all work out...

In this candid vlog, Susie Taaffe recounts her whirlwind relocation from Australia to the United States with her three children. She describes the initial gut‑felt spark that led her to consider California, the exploratory trip with the kids in late 2023, and the subsequent decision to move in 2025. Using a qualified visa obtained through an immigration lawyer, she navigated a chaotic timeline triggered by her ex‑husband’s housing deadline. With only two weeks’ notice, she packed five suitcases, rented a car that could fit the luggage and family, and flew to the U.S. for an Amy’s VIP Gifting Lounge event in Long Beach. The family stayed in a motel, then an Airbnb, and finally a tiny cottage while the children enrolled in school. Susie shares the emotional roller‑coaster—fear, panic, and moments of joy—along with coping tools such as daily mantras, breathing exercises, and a live meditation she led at the event. She also explores creative outlets, co‑creating AI‑generated motivational jingles with her friend Anna using Suno, which became a source of comfort. Spiritual guidance, cosmic timing, and the belief that the move aligns with a larger energetic purpose are woven throughout. The video ends with reflections on the children’s happiness, practical tips for traveling with kids, and a promise to share more content on cooking in motel rooms and AI music.

Surprise! I know it has been a hot minute, um, uh, between videos because I moved countries. So I've moved from Australia to the US, and I have been very, very busy because, um, it just kind of evolved. There's a very loud car there. I hope that's not bothering anyone. Um, it just evolved. It was like a step by step, and it's something I've been circling for probably, oh, since 2023, um, when I came over to the US for my business. I'd just done a big trip around Texas, and the next trip I was in California, and I came to visit some friends, and I was already tossing up the idea, maybe Austin, Texas— that's where my business is— or, um, maybe California— it's closer to Australia to get back and forth. And so I was driving past the school near where my friends live, and there was just this mass— they were like, oh, move here, move here. And there was this massive, like, thump in my heart that was kind of like, oh my God, I think you need to live here. It was quite a bizarre feeling. It was sort of like— it was like a knowing just sort of whooped right into me. And I was like, oh, I looked at the rentals and stuff, and it's a really nice neighborhood, so the rentals were super high, but this high school, um, that I saw, and it had the big football pitch and the fancy track and field and the big baseball and the bleachers and all those things that you, um, well, in Australia we see on the movies. But, um, it was just— I was like, oh. And it was— that was sort of like the spark of maybe this could be it, maybe this is the place. And so I just let it settle and sit a bit. I did have my ears— so one ear pricked up and I was like, hmm, like a Maybe, maybe. And so that was 2023. Um, so then I sort of floated the idea with the kids. I brought them over here, uh, maybe the end of 2023. I brought them over and then we just hung out for 2 weeks. We went to like the local grocery store. We got petrol or fuel. We got, um, we went to the basketball courts. We found the local burger joint, the pizza place, um, all of that just to see would they like to live here if they could see it anyway. By the end of the trip, everyone had said the girls were both yes, yes, yes. And then my son was a little bit like, hmm, not sure. And by the end he goes, maybe, maybe I could. So I then, so that was then I had, and then 2024 happened and certain things sort of in personal life, kids weren't loving school, et cetera. So long story short, we sort of started going gung-ho with the goal to move here. So it was like big up on the vision board. We're moving here in 2025. We're moving here anyway. Um, um, I was working with my friend ChatGPT, um, and I didn't realize that I actually qualified for a visa, um, as easily as I did because I'd been working here for a few years in a row when my business was set up and I'd been doing PR and marketing and, um, lots of like Oscars and the Emmys and, um, gift bags and sponsoring events. I actually qualified. So long story short, okay, we thought I'll just Put in the visa application. We used a great immigration lawyer, and we'll put in the visa application and we'll just see what happens. Anyway, it happened that we got the visa. And so that was in July, I think, of this year. And I was still like, okay, we're moving there, we're moving, we've got the visa, but no dates, no plan, no anything like that. And then fast forward a little bit longer, and my ex-husband, so the kids' dad, He got the place he just moved into. They sold it, so he couldn't rent it anymore. So he needed a house to live in, and he had a date that he had to be out by, which at first I was like, oh my God, that's a lot of pressure. Then he actually fumbled the date. I think it was like two weeks or something, which was actually just in. He fumbled the date, and it was actually, I think, about six weeks later. And I was like, okay. We had the interview. in between that. Anyway, long story short, I was like, okay, one morning I just sat there and said, okay, you've got to make the jump. You've just got to make the decision. Um, you can go and live with your mum and dad for a bit, let him have the house. So I said, okay, we'll move out. And I actually had a trip to the US for the Amy's VIP Gifting Lounge, um, in LA. And I think that trip was a total of 4 days because I had to fly back for the visa appointment. So Before I left, I'd said, yes, you can have the house. I came to America, flew back, did the visa appointment. We got it, which was amazing, and then turned around and then packed up a house I'd lived in for eight years in two weeks. So that nearly broke me, and I had no idea what was going to happen next. I had—I was just like, right, we just get out of the house. So that was step one. After I got out of the house, which I think that took me about three days to recover, I'm surprised I didn't have a nervous breakdown. But Sorted everything out. We planned we're not we didn't bring anything to the U.S. We just bought five suitcases. More on that later. And so then I was just at mum and dad's, and and I had some friends that were flying over here, and they said, "Oh, we're gonna go on the 18th of October. Do you want to come with us?" And we don't have any luggage, so we can take some bags over for you. And I was like, "Oh, okay. That's in like." I think it was in like two weeks or ten days or something, and I was like, okay, I did the first big, the first big thing. Like moving out of a house you've lived in for eight years is quite difficult when you're not moving it anywhere. Very difficult, in fact. I anyway, and so then I just had that again, that thing where okay, no, we're doing it. That's the date. The eighteenth is the date. So we made it happen on the day of the eighteenth. I realized even though I had 10 bags of luggage allowance, what were the logistics of that going to look like? Like, I can't get 10 bags of luggage with me and my 2 girls. Max stayed behind to finish the year of school. Like, like, what even car fits 10 bags and 3 people? So I was like, right, okay, you have to pare back. We can only take— and I worked out sort of volumetric because I needed to rent a car, get the bags, and then get to our first location. Which— oh, sorry, we also had an event on the 19th in Long Beach, a lovely event we were sponsoring. And I thought that was another reason. It was like, oh, she's leaving on the 18th, which means we can do the event. So okay, we're gonna do it. We're just gonna do it. We're just gonna jump. No idea about anything else. No plan except for we were getting on the plane and we knew we had the event. So I think literally on the day I found a car that would fit 5 bags and 3 humans. So we pared back. Okay, we instantly like just— we literally halved what we were taking. So we're like, okay, let's just pack for five weeks. We didn't know if we were going to stay. We didn't know how it was going to eventuate. We didn't know what was going to happen. We just knew nothing. We just turned up with five bags, and the plan was to attend the event and then to get the Social Security number and see what happens. Anyway, long story, but the Social Security number, because we have dual passports. it went on the wrong passport for the visa, and I know you have to get that fixed so you can then get the Social Security number. Anyway, it was all a bit of a disaster, but we kept pushing through. My parents visited us on their way back from Europe, so we, um, had 5 nice days with them in like an Airbnb. And then it was sort of— they flew home, and then it was the next stage of, okay, now we need to see, can we make this happen? Like, can I get this kids into the school that they want to go to? Can I find what I need to comply with that? Can I find a house? Sadly, the car we had did not like the area we're in, which is really hilly, and we nicknamed it the Buzz Box. And I can promise you it was character building for all. I thought it would be okay because it was a Toyota and Toyotas are pretty robust cars. Anyway, this one did not like hills, didn't like braking much. On highways, you couldn't brake too hard. You sort of had to pump the brakes. I think that's what truckies do, pump the brakes. Um, so you didn't— so otherwise, if you put full brake on, it would just lose all power. So it was— anyway, character building. Anyway, long story short, we had— we did— we found an Airbnb that we could rent for a long time, so month to month. Um, so that then gave us what we needed for the kids for school. So then we were living in a motel at this stage. I think we stayed in the motel for 17 or 19 nights. It was a long time, the 3 of us in one— well, the girls keep saying it was, it's a hotel, Mum, but it was actually a motel. Um, but it was, it was fine. We did it. We survived. No kitchen. I think we had a microwave. So no kitchen, no microwave. And I'm going to do a whole nother video on traveling with kids in motel rooms and what you can cook in a microwave, what you need to pack, and some tips and tricks. So I will do one of those because I'm a guru at it. But anyway, um, then the girls started school. So we're still in the motel. The girls started school. Um, first day— actually, no, Pen started first. Nell was a bit to come on. She wasn't quite enrolled yet because she was high school, so it was a bit harder to do the enrollment. Um, anyway, first day, Pen came back with the biggest smile on her face and she just loved it. So that was like my first— And you think first day is okay, they loved it, but then second day, third day 4th day was just— she was— she is just happy. And one of my big motivators was for how unhappy the girls were in school in Australia. So, um, and it was sort of like, it's a— it wasn't really anywhere we could move them to a different school because they're all kind of a bit the same. So having Pen happy at school was just like, that was definitely a motivator to keep going. Um, then we were able to stay with a lovely friend for a bit. So we stayed with her for 2 weeks, which was just so nice to be in a real kitchen, in a real home with family, with family and And people around, and that was just so lovely. And then we've now moved into our teeny cottage, which is very small, only one bathroom for 4 people, which is okay. We now brush our teeth in the kitchen sink. Anything that doesn't require the bathroom— makeup, hair doing, brushing teeth— is all done in the kitchen or in the little sunroom. You have to get very smart and use your spaces wisely. We Rearrange the bedding configuration, which included a little bit of handyman work, but we got a configuration now that we can all fix. It's only 2 bedrooms, so we just needed to create everyone their own little space. Um, and so yes, here we are. Um, we have this until May next year, which is really exciting, and we are now living in the US. My son joined us and started school. Last week. He was— I was a bit of a mean mum and put him— he landed on the Friday and he went to school on the Monday. So that was probably not the nicest thing to do, but I just really wanted to get him to get in there and make some friends before he— before we have Christmas break, because they have 2 weeks off. So if he came too close to Christmas, he wouldn't have met anyone to be able to spend some time with them. We've also got both him and Penn in a basketball team, which they both love basketball and American basketball is definitely going to help them level up because it is fast and strong and of a really good level where they can really lift into their potential. So that's yes, that's I'm sure I'll dig a bit more into some of these bits, but that's where we are right now. Okay, I did that very hyped and very which is probably the energy of what I've been in this this this this we've done this we did that okay. So now I'll take a breath. You take a breath. I want to talk about my emotional journey through this time, um, because this journey has taken a lot of blind faith and trust. Like, I have not been able to see around corners. I have not known— I have not known what outcomes of things were going to be. I did— that Social Security number ended up taking us like 5 weeks or something to get— 6 weeks even. Um, luckily I didn't need that to enroll them into school. The visa was enough. So there is— I think probably I'd like to share my little mantra with you, and that is because with so much going on and so much needing to be figured out, it's right now in this present moment, I am okay. Like, I have Enough of what I need. I have a house. I have— I can drive the kids to school. Like, I am okay right now. And I have been listening to a lot of other people on YouTube. I follow a lot of amazing accounts, and they're always about bringing it back into the present and following your joy. So balancing the following your joy with sheer panic and Like, like, I wake up in the morning and I am like, oh my God, like, I am so afraid and so overwhelmed by fear of the unknown, of not knowing, that it actually takes my breath away. I've got— I'm nearly crying because it does feel so terrifying. And so if anyone ever feels like that, like me, my trick is, if in bed is the worst place to be, Get up. I get up and just do a little morning ritual, like go and make yourself a cup of tea. Just do something to get yourself moving and, um, and do something that's familiar. And then lots of breathing. So what I actually did play with while I was at my friend's house, and it was, it was brought on by this breathe in to stop and breathe and breathe in, breathe out. And I think someone sent me a message and it was you're doing better than you think. And so I was like, well, I don't feel like that right now. But, um, I think, well, they were right, probably. In hindsight, I'll look back and think, wow, you're doing an amazing job. But when you're in, in so much uncertainty and, and not knowing, it's, um, it's, it's really hard to think that you're doing well, I think would be the point. So I started, um, co-creating. My great friend Anna had been playing around with doing some, um, jingles, like some songs for her Just to get get along, sort of like just to you know gets catchy in your head. So I thought I'm gonna have a little play around with it too. So I wrote the lyrics that I wanted. The so it's Suno, the AI music generator. I wrote the lyrics that I really wanted to get in, and the first and so it's called Hey You Stop. So it's sort of like I want to like hey you stop, like just stop where you are right now and breathe, and then. Yes, you're doing better than you think. Believe. And then it just goes on. And if a stranger on the internet told you, then it must be true. Breathe in, breathe out. Anyway, they brought me joy. So finding little pockets when you're in this uncertainty— and I've been— I haven't come on here to share this. Probably I haven't been in an emotional state that I was able to come on here and share this because I This is probably the first day in, I think it's nearly 7 weeks, where I've actually felt a little bit settled, a little bit like, okay, now I can create. The music was fantastic to create. I love that, and I'm going to be doing more of that. And I know it is AI, and I know lots of people have objections to that, but for me, I can't create little jingles or little songs I want these to get stuck in your head. I, I don't have the ability to deliver that. And I really feel like music brings me so much joy. I can't create it myself. So I am going to be using AI to create music because I want songs to get stuck in your head that are telling you that you are doing amazing, that are telling you that you're doing better than you think, that are reminding you just to stop and breathe in and breathe out and Lately, if I've had a really big— like, I've had some big knocks. There's been lots of tears, there's been lots of hugs. There were some big knocks along the way, and my coping mechanism was to pace around the house and just say, just breathe, just breathe, just breathe, just breathe, just breathe. So I use breathing as a way to push myself through the— you know, when you just like a real kick in the gut or something you weren't expecting or something you thought was going to go another way and it didn't. You can do what I do and pace around the house and just, just breathe in a very frantic sort of— but it does eventually calm you down. So, um, I will be creating more songs because I just— if anyone finds a song and it can stick in their head and tell them that you're doing an amazing job and you're doing better than you think, and just to breathe in and breathe out. And, and I think the— my little mantra of right now I am okay, like There is still so much in the future that I have no idea how I'm going to sort out. Like, I, I— there is big, there is big things I need to figure out, and I do not have any clue. I actually have no clue. All we have is right now, and right now I'm talking to you. I have a computer to talk to you. I have a house to talk to you into. I have food in the fridge. I have a car that can pick the kids up. Like right now, I'm I am okay. We get and I and I know we I I have these commitments and things that are in the future, but if we stay in the future too much, it's only going to make it worse. So just the mantra right now, right now in this present moment, which is all we ever actually have, is literally right now. And and you can never second guess. You you can never second guess any of your decisions. Like And now in hindsight, now both the girls are just absolutely so happy in school. They have made such nice friends. For them, it has been a complete game changer. Like, I knew I had a gut feeling, like I really thought it might be, but they can go wrong sometimes too. You know what I mean? The pull, the push was for me, just get them here, just get them over here. And both of them have said to me in the last few days, We're not going back. We can't go back. No, they're like, no way, we are staying here. We love it so much. And after you've had children that have been so unhappy for so long— I'm gonna cry again. Um, like so unhappy— to have them so happy and loving their life is just— see, hindsight, I didn't know the outcome could be this good. So sorry for blubbering, but I didn't know it was actually going to be this good for them. And I'm just so happy that I just jumped and had no idea about anything. Like literally when we hopped on the plane, I think I found a car I could like a private rental, um, because the, the insurances over here absolutely kill you, um, through rental companies. So I did a private rental. And, um, and we literally booked 2 nights. We stayed in a Motel 6, and the car was old, and we were jammed in like sardines with our 5 suitcases. And the Motel 6 smelled like cigarettes and bleach and was right on the highway, so not in the nicest area, but we'd chosen it because it was close to the event the next day. Um, and like, that was that. And I think I even booked that at the airport. Like, that was our plan. That was the plan. The plan was we have no idea. And, um, and then I just slowly let it unfold. And I, I knew I had to leave when I did. I just knew if I didn't leave then that I— it just— everything would fall away. It was one of those instinctive, I just have to go. I didn't know. We, we had the potential. We could have come back. I didn't know what would happen. I didn't know I just didn't know. We also, obviously, when you're moving to another country and you're self-funded, you've got finite resources. So you have to do— everything has to be done on the, on the, on the cheapest thing possible because you don't know, are you going to need enough first month, last month of rent? Are you going to need— like, we're going from AUD to USD. Like, all of these things are just so— like, you don't know. So you've got to be really mindful at the beginning until you know what the cards are. Um, so anyway, that's it. This is a story about jumping into the unknown when your gut tells you it's right to. So like, I did it— like, I, I sat with these decisions. I didn't just flick. They did take a while because they were big decisions. And I did— I, I do— I will admit this, I have a spiritual guide. I'm very spiritual. And he, um, he shows himself to me when he talks to me as Spike from Notting Hill. So he's pretty funny. And it's like, I'm not sure if you remember the end of Notting Hill where he's like, oh, sod a dog, I've made the wrong decision. And Spike just sits there with his arms crossed and goes, mm-hmm. Well, Spike does this to me a lot. It's sort of like, I've got to go, don't I? He's like, mm-hmm. Now I've got the sun on my face. Um, He's like, yeah. And anyway, so he's very funny. Um, and so I did have like— I did have my guides, and obviously I have a lot of angels around me. I have a lot of the spirit realm. I think ancestors, angels, everyone, elementals, everyone, all the galactic race, the whole universe is behind this move because I truly think they needed me to be here in California Now, I think I needed to be here now. I think there's a lot of cosmic stuff happening at the moment. 3i Atlas, my favorite subject, which I won't bang on about in this video, but, um, I find— I just, I think it's so fascinating. And it comes closest to Earth on the 19th of December. And we had also— we had the— we've had so much since we landed here, and we landed just in time. I think there was a series of Full moons or new moons or something big. Oh, and then 3A Atlas went past Mars, and there was just a string of events since we've been here. And I really believe energetically I'm supposed to be in California for this next wave that's coming through that's going to, um, uplevel all our, uh, our like hearts basically. And you know how much I love hearts. Everything from your heart. Um, so I've— in hindsight now and seeing how everything's happening, I feel like I'm— this is where I'm energetically supposed to be, here in this location, because there was sort of many— too many pushes. It was like the house, having to get out of the house. I didn't have to, but it was kind of like— it was a bit of a— it was an opportunity, I suppose. So Yeah. It was, yeah, I didn't have to, as I said, I could have said, no, you have to go, you have to go move somewhere else. But by choosing things like that, it means that he can still have the house and he's got Zelda as well, the cat. Um, so she gets to stay in her home and Max got to stay in his house while he finished school. And it's something familiar for the kids if they go back on holidays. And, and it, so it was, it was just these little things. And then my friends leaving on the 18th and the event being the 19th. And I really wasn't ready to leave on the 18th. But I thought, here's an opportunity. You've got someone that can help you and you've got an event that you were sponsoring already that you can show up to. And I actually conducted my first live meditation, which I have never done before. And I had to get my daughter in the back row of the event holding up the minute counters. So I knew how long I had left of the music because I can just channel and talk the meditation, but I didn't know how long, when the music would finish. So she was a great, a great little help. And she did, she was a real trooper actually. She came to the event and we'd landed didn't get in until 7 PM the night before and then went to the event at lunchtime. We were there by 11:30 the next day. So, and she stayed till 6 PM with me and that would have been tough for her. She's only 13. Um, but she did have a good time at it and she got to be my finger holder. But anyway, so first grounding of Susie energy was in Long Beach with a live meditation. And this is my first recording live to you guys. Um, I will probably do a little video separately and introduce my AI songs, but I might actually link them below because I think you need to save them to your playlist. I might even see how I can do the MP4 so you can just download the file. You don't have to go through YouTube because I just think sometimes you need to be told by a stranger on the internet that you're doing okay and that you're doing better than you think and that you're amazing. So I think this video is long enough, um, and I will tell you more about the journey as it unfolds, and I'll probably bring you back. I'm definitely going to do the video on the feeding kids in motels with microwaves and nothing else. So because that one is really handy for mums that need that, and dads, um, anyone traveling with kids. Um, okay, love you and leave you. Bye.
