The Susie Unshaped Sessions

In this solo talk Susie Taaffe shares the life‑changing events that led her to create the "Scanties Anti‑Shapewear" movement and to advocate for a heart‑centered, joy‑filled way of living. She recounts an unexpected divorce, raising three young children, and a bold relocation from Australia to the United States, describing how these challenges sparked a deep questioning of purpose, body‑image culture, and spiritual identity. Susie explains the origins of Scanties – a line of comfortable underwear designed to free women from the physical discomfort of traditional shapewear – and expands the concept into "emotional shapewear," critiquing diet culture, media‑driven body ideals, and the societal conditioning that tells women they are never enough. She weaves personal anecdotes with spiritual teachings, emphasizing the distinction between brain‑driven safety mechanisms and heart‑driven guidance, and shares practical anxiety‑relief tools such as meditation, Archangel Raphael visualizations, affirmations, and earbuds with uplifting audio. The talk culminates in a discussion of a rising collective “unity consciousness,” the belief that all beings are expressions of one source energy, and how trusting inner intuition can empower single‑parent resilience, creative expression (AI‑generated music, the "wobble‑remember" dance), and a sense of limitless abundance.

Hello, welcome to the Susie Unshape Sessions. I'm Susie, and here we are talking about unshaping all of the beliefs that have, um, led us away from our hearts and really living a life that we truly love and that makes us feel amazing. So how did I come about doing this? Well, it's been a long journey. Um, it It started with, uh, an unexpected divorce, and that made me question, like, what is life about? I was— I had 3 very young kids. I think when it started getting rocky, they were, uh, 4, like under 1 and 2. And then when we finally split, um, which I never thought was actually going to happen, um, they were 5, 3, and 1. So I started digging into what is the meaning of life. What are we here for? What is this all about? Like, there's got— like, there's got to be more to just waking up and living like in The Matrix. Like, um, I love that movie, but, um, just going about your day. Like, why are we here? And so I— then I thought, okay, I am no. Okay, I can't speak. Okay, I'm gonna start this again. So I woke up and I realized that we are here to live with joy. We are here to live fully in like freedom and peace and fun and bliss and all of these amazing feelings is the point. We also need to be in service of others. So I had this realization. Um, and the best way you can be of service to others is by sharing your joy and showing them how to walk their own path of joy and light. So, um, that's why I created Scanties Anti-Shapewear. At the time, it was a physical product designed to help you just feel comfortable in your body. So totally comfortable underwear. Um, sick of uncomfortable underwear. It was a disaster. But I didn't want chafing. I didn't want that feeling, and I didn't want digging in elastic because no one feels good with muffin top. And I wanted them to basically just set and forget, put something on and then just forget about it. Because when something feels good, you can actually just go about living your life. Whereas when you feel like if it's cutting in, if it's riding up, if you're picking out your undies all the time, all of those things, if you've got chafe, like none of those things help you to feel good about yourself. So I thought— I was an engineer and I could have gone back to that, but that was more of a Matrix-style life where you go and you slog yourself at a job. Yeah, you can do it, it's okay, it pays you well, but it doesn't bring me joy. Like, it didn't light up my life. So I decided to start my business— that was 10 years ago now— um, to help other women feel good in their bodies. So basically to provide a product that can take away all that negative chatter of my thighs are too big, my waist is like spilling over these pants, like I don't feel good, this is too tight, these are riding up, all of those negative thought patterns which send you on a spiral. I was like, if we have a comfortable pair of underwear that ticks all those boxes, then we can get about our actual lives and stop focusing on the things that are annoying us. What has led from that is I realized I've dug like, and this has been a 10-year journey to dig in and like, why do we feel bad about our bodies? Like, why do we feel the need to wear shapewear or, um, always be on a diet and losing 5 kilos and, um, or 10 pounds or whatever? Like, why do we always be needing to shrink ourselves? And I know that I grew up with that sort of culture where like it was always a quest, and everywhere you looked, like magazines and shows and everywhere that you looked, was either unrealistic body types that were impossible to even achieve. I think about 1% of the population have the body types that they were trying to have us achieve. And then feeling guilt and shame and all of the negative feelings about why is my body not like this unachievable 1%, which is just absolutely crazy. Like, it was dangling an unachievable carrot. And I think so many of us have grown up this way. And so I was— that made me dig in a bit further. Like, A, why do we feel bad about our bodies? Because society has taught us that way. Like, our generation has been taught that we're not, we're not enough as we are. And then with the arrival of shapewear and the shapewear boom, and I remember seeing a video of One shapewear producer, and I know, well, she didn't really— she probably doesn't realize at the time, but it was a post-COVID video and she was doing a try-on video to show because we wouldn't believe the results if we didn't see her try it on in real life. And it was putting not one pair on, but two. She was layering the shapewear to get this sucked-in, smooth silhouette. And that was when my brain just went Like, what are we doing? We are now recommending that we wear 2 pairs of shapewear to make sure we can just really squish ourselves in and, and achieve this, this desirable body type, which, as I said, 1% of the population naturally have it. So we are not naturally supposed to look like that, and yet it's just being jammed down our throats everywhere we look. So I started the anti-shapewear movement And it's not only shapewear, the removal of shapewear from your body, but it's the removal of shapewear culture from our hearts. So I call that the emotional shapewear, all the guilt and the shame and all that. I should be doing this, I shouldn't eat that, I should— like, it just, it is, it's endless and it's so time-consuming. Like, I'm not sure if anyone's had it, but the chatter in your head when you are trying to conform to these societal beliefs. It is incessant, and it's like everything— like, maybe it's just me, but I'm sure it's not— that you overthink everything. Oh, should I do that? Should I do that? Like, it's so up here and it's so consuming. And that's when I realized what the link is between, like, making our bodies feel not worthy or And the— like, it all comes back to our hearts and not feeling like we are enough as we are. So I think the link between diet culture, needing to be always thinner and smaller and squished and with like flat stomachs— our bodies aren't supposed to have flat stomachs. Women are supposed to be curvy and soft and feminine. Like, look at the curve, like this. sculptures of Venus, she didn't have a six-pack. And like, if that's naturally how you are, that's fantastic. But for us who are trying to achieve this unrealistic body type that was never— I actually read somewhere that the reason they made models sort of like the coat hanger frame was because the beautiful— they— models used to have beautiful, voluptuous, feminine bodies, and everyone was looking at the bodies and they weren't looking at the clothes. So that's how the fashion of this, the coat hanger rail thin model came about was because they literally needed a coat hanger so they could sell more clothes. It's more like buy my shit here. We'll put it on a coat hanger so it looks like, so you can see the clothes and you're not looking at the beauty that is underneath it. So yes, that is what scanties is about. We have the physical scanties, which is about removing the physical shapewear. It's about ditching the uncomfortable underwear, feeling good in your body so you can get about your day. But then the emotional shapewear removal is so important to me because I think that it's the cause of needing to feel smaller, thinner, more— I don't know, flatter stomach, shrunk, svelte. physiques, like the unachievable. And you'll hear many of like the famous Hollywood actresses say how unachievable if they've lost weight for a role, or, um, like when they have to actually adapt their bodies for specific roles, and how it's not achievable long term. And it's also not achievable without a team of personal trainers and chefs and probably personal assistants as well, because if you're so consumed about having this perfect body, How are you going to like manage all the household chores and the household admin and drive the kids here and there? Like, you know what it's like. Like, when you're run off your feet, do you have time to eat the perfectly calculated macro meal to achieve the totally unrealistic body shape that we perceive we need to be? Okay, I'm on a real rant about this, but so it's where I've been investigating this coming back into our hearts. And really exploring the, the essence of why we don't feel enough and removing all of this societal conditioning. And it's not just about bodies. Bodies, um, I find it like— how I like to describe it is we use our bodies as like a physical representation of how we feel bad inside ourselves. So our bodies are a really easy thing to blame. That they don't look like this or they don't look like that, because we can see it with our 3D eyes that they— like, we can see the flaws. But your flaws, I like to treat them like— I, I used to hate, like, the cellulite and the stretch marks and, and the uneven skin and all of those things. And now I see it as a roadmap to this journey of life that you have lived. Like, They are your battle scars. You have earned those marks on your body. Like, any scars, anything that we don't think is lovable, is actually showing the warrior that you are inside. Like, life is not easy. It is really hard. But in my studying of why we're here is we have chosen to come here to live these polarities, the good and the bad, to help our souls evolve. Um, they help us grow and, and realize things that are separated out from our ego brains. And this brain, like, we have to love it and thank it because it keeps us safe. It tells us, don't put your hand in the gas burner, that will hurt. It tells us, like, watch where you're walking because if you fall down that hill, that will hurt. It keeps us safe, it keeps us alive, but it actually shouldn't be the ruler. of our lives. That's this one's job. And the heart is so much smarter in knowing things. The brain keeps us safe. Yes, 100%. And if you've got to get something done, the brain will help you do that. But unless we tune back into our hearts, this will drive you crazy. And I know that because I'm speaking from experience, and I'm a real looper. And especially like that moment after I wake up in the morning, if I don't get myself— like, I will just lie there and marinate in fear, like literally marinating in the fear and the terror. And for anyone out there, I believe in angels. I 100% know we all have angels guarding us. So when I'm in that state of fear and terror, I always call on Archangel Raphael. And Archangel Raphael has a beautiful emerald green cloak. And I ask him when I'm in that anxiety laying in bed, I always ask him, can you please lay your green cloak over me? And then I usually put on a YouTube reading, channeling, meditation, whatever I find, whatever is suggested. I love the YouTube algorithm because I think it knows things too and it suggests things that we need to hear at the time. Anything to turn off that chatter. If you can't put on anything like that Get up. The next solution is to get up out of bed. But it's not like I often wake up at 1 o'clock, 2 o'clock in the morning, 3 o'clock. I don't want to be pacing around the house. There's kids asleep. I don't want to wake them up. So, um, I always leave my headphones by the bed and I just put one earbud in and, and get something nice, something affirming, something positive going into your ears. And it works really well to switch off that, like, anxiety, which, as I said, I marinate in it unless I do something about it. And it's terrifying. Like, I feel terrified. Um, and it's all that old programming that's coming to the surface. So, um, I can't wait for a time when I don't get that. But until that happens, they're my tips and tricks to get past that. And what's been really interesting lately is— so there's a lot of talk, I'm not sure if you've heard about this new world consciousness, this new world that we are all evolving into. So According to people much smarter than me, um, Earth is undergoing a shift in consciousness. And this has come about because there are enough people on Earth at the moment that are living from their hearts and shining their light that as a collective consciousness, we now have the capacity to raise up. And so I've been doing a lot of investigation into this. And I'm not sure where you are on your journey of spiritual understanding, but we are all created from source energy, the universe. You can call it God, the Creator. It's all the same thing. And we are all— we've been, we've been taught that everyone is separate, that we're all living in this body, that we're all living our separate lives, and we are the only ones, and everyone is separate away from us. And it's actually not the truth. It's actually, we are all the one energy because we are all from universal energy. We are all from source energy. So we are not one, we are not separate things. We are all one energy together. And what's been really interesting is, um, it's been Christmas time and actually there weren't even Christmas movies, but we love to watch Christmas movies and Netflix kept feeding me up. All these Christian faith-based movies. So I was—I didn't realize that's what I was watching at the time until I got about halfway through. And in it, basically, there's the character, and they have like an existential crisis—whether they were abandoned as a child, adopted, or a drug addict, or whatever it is. And what happens is they. Turn to God in it. So God, and they run through all of this. God loved me so much that he gave me his only son. I went to a super religious school, so I have always thought religion was totally hypocritical. And I think there are parts of it that are completely hypocritical, and I think they're the part, the aspects of it that were built to control us. And to me, it just never felt right. But I do think religious teachings, all of the uplifting and the positive things are still correct. And I don't know, I might be butchering this, but my biggest difference, what I've noticed with religion now and what these movies were talking about was they were talking like God is separate to us and Jesus is separate to us. So like, it's like Jesus can forgive you so you can forgive you. And God loves you so much that he sacrificed his son to give you forgiveness. And so I think the biggest part, which I think will evolve over this next coming however long, as our consciousness realizes that we are unity consciousness and not separate, is that the, the biggest, um, error in these teachings is that God is separate to us, that Jesus is separate to us. And whichever religion you're like, it's— it doesn't matter what the name is, but We are all God. Like, we are all Jesus. There is no separate— there is no external source of validation. There is no external source of creation. Like, we are the source of creation. You are. I am you. You are me. Like, we are Gandhi. We are Hitler. Like, we are— you are— we are all the same energy. We have all originated. From the same source energy, and we all came here to choose. We all chose to come here, and we planned what we wanted to learn. Our souls came to Earth to learn and evolve, and we planned it out. Like you chose your parents, you chose your circumstances, you you chose these, you chose your siblings. My kids would laugh at that, saying I did not choose him. I've said well yes, he did. But anyway, it's funny. Like you chose that annoying neighbor. You cho like. We chose these because if we came down to Earth and everything was just light and easy breezy, well then we can't evolve from that. We can't learn from light. Like we needed to have challenges. We needed to, um, dig deep and build our resilience. And I have dug very deep in the last 10, 11 years, 12 years. And I have become, uh, I am very resilient and I am very good at getting myself out of really tough times. But what that— what in hindsight now I know what that's been teaching me is to trust myself like no one else. All these like accumulated knockbacks, knockbacks, like devastation, crying, crying, crying, like the whole shebang. Each one was just building a little block of my own trust within myself. And trusting that my own heart and inner guidance system can get me through anything, basically. And then lately, um, especially with this move to the US— so I relocated from Australia to the US. I'm a single mom with my 3 kids with no plan, no clue how it was going to work out. Like, it was— it's batshit. Like, it is absolutely crazy what I did, but it's because I had learned to trust my inner guidance system. So strongly, and it was like, we're going. And I'm like, what? It's like, process. I'd go to sleep the next night. I'm like, okay, so that was like— and there was a series of the, you're doing this. And I'd be like, what? And then it would be like, sleep on it. Next one. Okay, another little jump. Well, they weren't little jumps, they were big jumps, but I did it step by step. And it was, um, like, I had no idea. Like, I didn't know. I just, I, I had, but I built that trust within my heart and my intuition. And I have, um, I have a guide that shows up to me as, um, I think it's Archangel Zadkiel is actually who it is. But he shows me himself as Spike from Notting Hill. So, you know, the hilarious Welsh character in Notting Hill. And so I get any, any behaves exactly like Spike, and which is comical as well. And I often get him doing that. The nod, like when, um, at the end when Hugh Grant goes, oh, sod a dog, I've made the wrong decision, when he's turned down Julia Roberts, and Spike's there going, mm-hmm. So that always makes me laugh because I'm like, yes, okay, message received. And he's very funny. He doesn't need to say a lot. He just gives me a few little, like, as I work through and sort it out, I get a lot of these. And, uh, yeah. Which is funny. So, um, anyway, so that's where, that's where I'm at at the moment. So it's all about coming back into our hearts, trusting ourselves, and remembering that we are not separate. We are all unity consciousness. We all come from the same source energy. We all have access to all the, all the abundance in the world. all of the universal abundance. We have access to absolutely anything that we can imagine. And so that's what this new unity consciousness and the rising of consciousness is realizing, that we— and then it makes you not feel like you're just battling this out alone. And, and I do. I'm like in a big, um, like wobble phase, remember who I am, wobble phase, remember who I am. Wobble, remember. Wobble, remember. So at the moment, I'm doing the wobble, remember dance. So maybe I'll make up a song about that. I've been playing around with co-creating music with AI, which I have loved because it's like getting jingles in your head, which just gets stuck in there reminding you how amazing you are and that you're enough as you are right now. And just breathe in and breathe out. And I just noticed I've been speaking at a rapid rate because I think I'm so passionate to share this with you. Um, so anyway, I think that's enough from me today, and I love you lots. And remember, when you're having a wobble, remember that you are the universe. Like, you are everything. You are a miracle. You are stardust. You are the sun. You are the moon. You are the waves. You are the bird. You are the sunshine. You are the— like, you are all the amazing things. Everything that is beautiful and amazing is exactly who you are. So Good luck with the 3D wobble remembering, wobble remembering. I'm off to go get my kids from basketball camp now, and I will on another date have a little discussion about balancing 3D life with the remembering and 3D life because yeah, I'm busy. I'm a single mom, 3 kids, and I moved to a country where I don't really have a support system. So it is crazy. So I definitely can talk to the 3D and then remembering to snap out and remember, and it's just that dance and how to play with the dance and stay in your flow for as often as you can. So I love you lots. Um, big hugs. Bye.
