Women in their late 50s and 60s sabotage their dating chances with a defeatist attitude and an endless checklist of requirements. Focus instead on a few essentials: companionship, intimacy, shared interests, and basic standards like hygiene and self-sufficiency.

Let's talk about unrealistic versus realistic expectations of a partner, especially if you have been single for a long time and you're now out there in your late 50s and 60s looking for a date. I hear from so many women of my age who just say that they can't meet, they can't find anyone, and they've just given up. And I completely understand where they're coming from, but I also know that there's a lot that they are doing that frankly makes it really difficult to find someone. One is that their expectation is that they're not gonna meet anyone. So they're going into this whole space, dating space, with a completely negative attitude, which frankly is, I suspect, a bit of a turnoff. Because if you think you're not going to meet anyone, then the likelihood is you're probably not. And secondly, they have an enormous amount of boxes that they want tit, you know, obviously they want the person to be financially secure, that's understandable. They want them to be funny, they want them to be good looking, they want them to have similar interests, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah, a list as long as your arm. And I know that nobody in this whole world is going to fulfill all that criteria, all those criteria that people have. And my expectation is that it's much easier to find somebody for just a few of the boxes you might have unticked at the moment. And they could be companionship, they could be intimacy, they could be shared interests, they could be a lot of things. But I think that we can't expect that somebody is going to fulfill all of those requirements. Sure, none of us want a big man baby that can't look after himself. None of us want somebody— I think anyway who is, you know, kind of filthy and dirty and doesn't wash. So there's, you know, some pretty basic stuff that I think that people just have to generally subscribe to. But besides some of those basics, then it's just a matter of thinking about the really important stuff that is necessary for you in a relationship and to disregard some of the stuff that frankly is going to be a lot more difficult to find.
