Dating app users often hide what they actually want on mainstream platforms. Alternative-lifestyle apps force you to state your desires upfront, whether that's fantasies or non-monogamy, which leads to honest conversations earlier. You might still end up vanilla, but at least everyone knows what they're signing up for.

For those of you who are dating and perhaps on some of the apps, how many of you have explored some of the more alternative lifestyle apps and websites that are out there? Because I know, having done quite a bit of that myself in the past and currently, is that one thing that I like about people who aren't necessarily looking for monogamous relationships, although that's what they might end up with, is that they start out by saying what it is that they desire, what they like, what they want, and it feels a bit more honest to me than in some of the more traditional sites where people may be hiding some of the stuff that they think you might not want to know or be interested in. And in the alternative scene, it's more the opposite way, that people are putting out there all the kinds of things that they fantasize about, would like to do, or thinking about. And it may be that they don't get any of that stuff and they end up in a very, you know, quite vanilla relationship. But I like the honesty that's attached with going on some of these sites and how it opens up the conversation and the possibility for starting off your relationship just being pretty straight and honest about what it is you like and perhaps want.
