An older woman with cats isn't lonely by default. Many women choose cats over dating after trying relationships, find it more fulfilling, and stay socially engaged. Men in the same situation tend to struggle more with contentment.
Let's talk about the idea of the lonely cat lady, often applied to older women who have not got a man in their lives. And let me tell you, most of the women that I know that are cat owners choose to be cat owners over dating men, being with men, being in relationships with men, because having done all of that stuff, they've made the decision that actually it's far preferable to live with their lovely cats and their lovely friends and have all the lovely people in their life and do all the fabulous things that they do all the time— hang out, go out, enjoy life without having a man at their side. So there's absolutely nothing wrong with being a lonely cat lady, but we need to take out the word lonely because most of the cat ladies I know, they're not lonely. They're incredibly happy, satisfied, and enjoying their lives in ways that I suspect many older men are still finding a massive challenge.
