When men call an ex crazy, they're usually describing someone emotionally intense or dramatic, not actually unstable. Both men and women get drawn to volatile relationships that feel intoxicating but blow up, then blame the other person instead of recognizing incompatibility.

Let's talk about the crazy ex. I meet a lot of guys who have told me that their ex was crazy, and I always wonder what that means. Usually it's accompanied by something like, but they were amazing in bed. I think there's a lot that goes behind that statement as well. The crazy ex suggests this kind of intensity of emotion, this kind of drama that goes on in the relationship, this kind of roller coaster ride. And I suggested it's probably not that much different from women who tell you that they always seem to fall in love with the bad boy, the one that they don't know whether or not he's ever going to turn up. And I think there is some tension around that that can become quite addictive, quite intoxicating, and especially if when you meet, it's all fireworks. But at the end of the day, the crazy ex is no more than a little trope that men use to kind of put down a certain kind of woman. I don't really like the use of it myself, and I prefer that we just acknowledge that we're all different and sometimes we're just not compatible.
