A man argues toxic masculinity is real and rooted in men clinging to outdated patriarchal power. He compares it to a colonial master refusing to let go, warns that these values have created current societal problems, and says men must understand and work with women or society won't survive.

Toxic masculinity, is it a thing? Well, unfortunately, I would have to say as a man that yes, it is. I notice it within myself, and it is something that I'm trying to deal with. But this inability to let go of positions of power and to let go and say goodbye to the patriarchy is something which has to be done in this modern age. There is no point in us hanging on like some colonial master to a dark continent, um, or a sex that we see— continue to see as a dark and mysterious continent. We have to get to know women, and we have to be prepared to work with women to hold up the whole of the sky together. Time is running out for us if we still hold on to old patriarchal toxic value— values which have got us into the mess that we're in at the moment. Sooner we move away from those values, the better.
