161. Write with me journaling | "and" mindset
6 Feb 2026 · 22 min
Tessa Romero leads a 20-minute journaling session on the "and" mindset: holding calm authority and kindness at the same time instead of choosing one or the other. She guides you through an "I am" statement rooted in Christian faith, then a full-page vision exercise about being trustworthy, thoughtful, and warm. The practice is meant to help you integrate this both-and approach into your leadership and life.

All right, friends, welcome in for a full Write With Me session. The way this works is you have your pen and journal out, as do I, and we write an entire page together. And you have full permission throughout this entire experience to change any of the vocabulary that I choose to use or describe things so that it sounds different than what I wrote, and it's completely authentic to you. That's what's on. That's what's really important in your writing, is authenticity, that you are writing what you truly want, not just what Tessa said and it's positive and true to you, not just what seems culturally acceptable, and you get really clear on what it is that you want. So we're bringing some vision and alignment journaling all together to fill an entire page. So probably expect about 20 minutes. That's usually how long it takes for me to fill one of the pages in my journal. I have a pretty big journal, so if you have a smaller journal, maybe you're going to fill a few pages right now. And. And either way, just spending a solid 20 minutes writing is going to slow down your mind. It's going to help you be very intentional with your thoughts and the way you're choosing to describe things. The inspiration for today's Write with Me came from a recent coaching session where we were talking about how challenging it is to choose between being a leader and a source of authority versus being kind and compassionate with our kids. And. And in this coaching session, I. I just said this is an or problem, like an either or issue, where we tell ourselves that in order to be the authority and in order to be the real leader of the home, we must be cold and detached and almost like just mean in a way where we just see ourselves being too stern, I guess, and that feels really misaligned with who we want to be. So we're inviting the word, and we're going to be a kind authority that leads and holds space for others and seeks understanding in that leadership and protects connection and prioritizes really understanding what people mean more than just attaching to what they say. So this journaling session is going to be all about inviting the word and in a lot. And. And, and, and, and, and. And instead of, oh, man, I really got to choose one or the other right now. So we're going to get started. But, yeah, like I said, you need your journal, so go get your journal. You'll need a good pen, and we'll mark the date. I was doing some vision writing for our upcoming yes Mom Live event, so I had to get to a new page. But yes, we're writing this on February 1st together, so we're going to write February 1st at the top. Love writing the date and any journaling that I do. I always start my I am statement because it teaches my brain where to think from. I want to get all of my ideas, all of my perspectives, all of my words, all of my vision for life from the identity that aligns with who I most want to be. The version of me I want to be in any circumstance that I'm given. That's what you're writing too. So I will share my I am statement with you and you're welcome to use it for this writing or as inspiration. And you're also welcome to just write down your own I am statement that describes who you want to be. My first line that I'm writing for my I am statement is I am of the vine of Christ, abundant, truthful and God fearing. He is alive in me and I let him lead. So there's going to be some quiet pauses in this session together because I'm actually writing with you. So when it's quiet, know this is the time to write. So you're going to quietly take some time to write your I am statement. Once I write mine, then I will be back to the mic and guide you to the next line. Okay? It. Okay, my first line going from this I wrote my I am statement. I am of the vine of Christ, abundant, truthful, and God fearing. He is alive in me and I let him lead. And this whole journaling, I want it to be centered around having all that I want. When I think about being that calm authority and source of leadership in my home, having all that I want that to look like. Instead of thinking, in order to have leadership, I have to give up kindness or in order to have authority, I have to. I have to give up compassion. We want to see them come together. So the first way I feel inspired to write this is I feel led to take I'll write it and then tell you. Yeah, I'll write it and then tell you. I feel led to take a role of calm authority and positive leadership in my home. So write that or play with the words a little bit. I feel led to take a role of calm authority and positive leadership in. In my home, every word I speak is thoughtfully selected. And intentionally delivered with kindness. My leadership. Is even more trustworthy. Because of my calm kindness. Coming from certainty in Christ. It's his words that fill my mind. And create a guiding light. For my instructions to be delivered. Absolutely anything. Without exception. Is allowed to happen in my life and I trust my every thought, spoken word and decision in response to it. To be aligned. With the Christ filled woman that I am. My feet are firmly placed on the ground. And my heart remains unbound. Freely feeling each moment. And warmly receptive. And warmly receptive to delivering love. Feel good so far? Me too. Freely feeling each moment and warmly receptive to delivering love. It is my role as a leader that I have filled with calm authority. I have acceptance for the desires of others. And recognize that in any desire. There is still an all knowing God who has the final say. I love that it's up to him. Instead of me. As a leader, I remain focused. On my connection. To everyone I have the opportunity to touch. Let's say touch and influence. All of the past pools and tendencies to rush or act in false urgency. Have released me. I'm free to take. A steady I'm free to take a steady and harmonious approach. To any circumstance. A weight has been lifted. And I finally see the way. To be exactly who I want to be in any moment I am in. My thoughts deliver delightful insight. And my emotions remain elevated. It's my behaviors. That are rooted in truth. And the utmost. Standard of excellence. The spaces within me. Hold multiple truths simultaneously. It's where the truth I know. Is delivered with kindness. And my kind instructions. Are held within firm boundaries. I have a remarkable ability. To see exactly how someone else is doing the best they can. While keeping a brilliant light of hope. On who they're becoming through this. I have a love for stories. And see how the people in my life. Are all heroes in their own light. I hold people close to me. And allow a warmth to transfer between us. While knowing. That the innermost parts of me. Are well kept. And impenetrable. Okay, we have a full page. Now. One of my favorite things to do is to go back and read through what I wrote so that way everything on the page can sink in more deeply. I can really feel what it's like to be in this headspace and create those emotions right here in this moment and carry it with me long after I close this journal. So if we put it all together, it sounds like I'm of the vine of Christ, abundant, truthful and God fearing. He is alive in me and I let him lead. I feel led to take a role of calm authority and positive leadership in my home. Every word I speak is thoughtfully selected and intentionally delivered with kindness. My leadership is even more trustworthy because of my calm kindness coming from certainty In Christ. It's his words that fill my mind and create a guiding light for my instructions to be delivered. Absolutely anything without exception is allowed to happen in my life. And I trust my every thought, spoken word and decision in response to it. To be aligned with the Christ filled woman that I am. My feet are firmly placed on the ground and my heart remains unbound. Freely feeling each moment and warmly receptive to delivering love. It is my role as a leader that I have filled with calm authority. I have acceptance for the desires of others and recognize that in any desire there is still an all knowing God who has the final say. I love that it's up to him instead of me. As a leader I remain focused on my connection to everyone. I have the opportunity to touch and influence. All of the past pulls and tendencies to rush or act in false urgency have released me. I'm free to take a steady and harmonious approach to any circumstance. A weight has been lifted and I finally see the way to be exactly who I want to be in any moment I am in. My thoughts deliver delightful insight and my emotions remain elevated. It's my behaviors that are rooted in truth and the utmost standard of excellence. The spaces within me hold multiple truths simultaneously. It's where the trust I know is delivered with kindness and my kind instructions are held with firm boundaries. I have a remarkable ability to see exactly how someone else is doing the best they can while keeping a brilliant light of hope on who they're becoming through this. I have a love for stories and see how the people in my life are all heroes in their own light. I hold people close to me and all and a warmth. Oh. And allow a warmth to transfer between us while knowing that the innermost parts of me are well kept and impenetrable. So when you put all of that together and you condition your mind. Wait. It's totally possible for me to have and in my life I can be a calm authority and have an irrefutable warmth about me that I offer freely to other people. Because I know that the innermost parts of me are well kept and impenetrable. We become a more soft hearted person and strong minded and able embody mind and spirit. And that's what this life is all about. Being the person that you most want to be and understanding that joy is a strategy and leadership can feel light and you're able to have this calm authority about you that feels natural and you can obtain all of that. It does require you to teach your brain what what it looks like though and to guide your mind that direction, and pretty soon your mind's going to just naturally operate from that place. So I hope that this Write with Me session was beneficial to you and that you're looking forward to our next one coming up real soon.
