As long as your sofa has a back to it, then it's good enough. Once your partner is sitting down like anyone would on a couch, you are actually going to step up one foot on either side of them. This is going to ensure that you start with flat feet. At this point, you can hinge forward, place your hands on the back of the couch, bend your knees, and squat down. The person who's sitting here can use their hands to assist the person who's squatting in the motions that they're about to engage in. And just a quick reminder that this is not the only motion that you have to do. You can do this motion, and you can do this motion as well. All of it is acceptable. Whatever feels good to you and your partner is totally fine. You wouldn't go to a yoga class for the first time and immediately enter into a master or advanced yoga class. You would start with an introductory course and then work your way up as you got more familiarized with the motions
