Thomas Anglero asks whether your words match what you actually do. He critiques materialism and pushes for authenticity, arguing that being present and genuine matters more than the stuff you own.

Welcome to the Soul of Innovation podcast. I am Thomas Anglero, and I want to ask you, are your thoughts of yourself, how you see yourself, is that congruent with the actions that you do on a day-to-day basis, hour-to-hour basis?
Look around yourself. Are all the things you've accumulated in life Are the clothes that you wear, the house that you have, the apartment you live in, your car, the things that people see when they see you and they judge you, is that congruent with the picture you have of you as this loving, caring person who's considerate of everyone? Or are the things all around you, if you saw the exact same things in someone else's house or apartment, you would think that they're a materialistic, egotistical person?
Ooh, brutal. Sorry, not.
Think about it. How many of us swear we're the nicest, most, most sweetest person in the world? We think about everybody else's feelings. Look around you. The answer to that question is all around you. If you are the sweetest, caring, most loving person in the world, what is around you reflects that. That expensive thing you're looking at now, that doesn't reflect that. It's not that you should live cheap, but if you truly live in a world of love and everything, then things of a white picket fence around your house, an expensive car, you must have this, this expensive handbag, you have to have this certain shade of lipstick, all these things of you must have, I must have, I have to have. If you have any of those thoughts, then you're not who You think you are. Your thoughts are not congruent with your actions. I ran into my new next-door neighbour today, had a discussion with them, and their thoughts of who they think they are are not congruent with their actions, and that's what brought this to light. How many of us walk around thinking we're this amazing thing, especially us men? We walk around thinking, "I'm buffed, I got all this muscle, I'm a really nice guy, mm-hmm-hmm," and we're full of shit and we're overweight. Women as well. Let me ask you again: are your thoughts about you congruent with everything around you that physically represents you? I think we all need to check ourselves. As I look out the window right now, I see a bunch of my neighbors And let me tell you, the thoughts about themselves are not congruent with their physical appearance.
Trust me.
What about you?
If you truly are a caring person, does it show without you having to open your mouth? Does it show in how you live? Does it show in how you walk? Does it show and how you talk, meaning you're a good listener? Trick question. Are the thoughts that you have about you congruent with all the things around you that represent you? And that's a trick question too, because the things around you don't represent you. And if they do, then you are materialistic. I love you. I'm playing with your head because I'm trying to wake you up.
I really am.
With the situation that we have today, life will never go back to being the same, and it's become more and more rare to have a conversation with a real person. People in fear— and everybody's in fear now, and people being more in fear— when people in fear, they hide, and the dark side comes out. And you're not having this. Real people would be so rare. So you could be that real person. You could be that person that people lean on. You could be that person that people listen to. You could be that person that people idolize, just because you're you. Not because you have something, not because you, you, you— just because you're you.
Be you.
Be that person.
Center yourself.
You don't have to be the man. You don't have to be the woman. You don't have to have. You don't have—
just be, and people will feel that. We need more people like you. Are your thoughts about you congruent with the things around you. That expensive handbag, that expensive car, that expensive this and expensive that are not you.
And as soon as you separate that thought from you, you become the man.
I love you. Go forth and spread beauty and light. Until next time.
