Welcome to the Soul of Innovation podcast. I am Thomas Anglero, and I want to talk to you about something that is important to every single one of us, that actually is one of the most important parts of our lives, and that is time. Do you ever think about how important time is? And how we've lost our contact, our healthy relationship to time. Let me explain. Today, everyone is used to getting everything instantly. If you're in a country that has Amazon, you are used to getting everything, and you have Amazon Prime account, you're used to getting everything either overnight or within 2 hours. Everything is instant. Instant coffee, instant satisfaction, instant gratification. You post a picture on social media, Facebook, Instagram, you put a tweet on Twitter, you want to get a like, a thumbs up, you want to get a share. Instant satisfaction, instant gratification, a massive dopamine hit all the time. Everything is instantly. But that's not how the most beautiful, the most precious moments, achievements, mature graciousness of life happens. It happens over time. And I'm really worried that not only me and you have lost, have lost that awareness to that, to time, that time is the most beautiful thing. And that with that comes the most beautiful things. Let's think about that. The seasons of the year come with time. It takes time for the leaves to come from the ground and come out of the branches of a tree, and slowly they unfold and slowly they grow, and in time they change colors. Months and months go by, and finally they change colors, and the changing of the colors happens over the course of weeks, and then they fall off the tree.— and for months go by before they come back. Everything is time. You plant a seed in the ground. It is not instant until that seed grows and is able to give you food that you can live with. It takes time. It takes months. And in that time, you take care of the soil, make sure the water there's enough water, enough sunlight, and over time, from a seed and from dirt comes food, comes an ecosystem of life with worms and birds able to eat the worms and everything is associated. But it takes time. The most beautiful, precious things, the things that define our lives come over time. It takes time. But the life we live, the life you live, and the things you want is always instant. I want a job promotion now. I want him or her to fall in love with me now. Everything has to be now. But before we had this mass technological rush where everything was— wasn't clickable and instant, We all valued time. We all understood that things take times. Here in Norway, they have an expression, "Tings ta tid," things take time. How often do you hear somebody say that? Stop for a moment, think about it. When's the last time you hear somebody say that yesterday or today? Things take time. No, that expression is being dropped from the vernacular of every language because everybody wants everything instantly. But the most beautiful, wonderful things take time. Falling in love with someone takes time. Swiping left or right on Tinder is instant, and of course that's not going to be the most incredible relationship you've ever had. Because it wasn't nurtured, because you didn't have time to sit back and giggle and ponder and fantasize about that person and just imagine things with that person and go through the what-ifs with that person. No, society today, the world today, you swipe left or you swipe right and boom, You get that person instantly, but it lost the element and the beauty of time. It is time that makes life so incredibly deeply emotionally beautiful and intense. The most amazing things in life come with time. Think about it. I worry for the young people, and I'm not trying to sound old, but if you grow up and you have no relationship to time and that everything is instant and that you don't understand that sitting back and reflecting over a thought, a person, a job interview, a meal, the sunset, the sunrise, that if you don't do these things, you are missing out on the essentials of life. Are we— have we not taught that to the young people? And biggest question, have you not taught that to yourself? When the hell have you— last time did you think about that? When's the last time you said, you know what, I have to take care of my time? Life is long. Life takes time. To get to 20 years, you have to live through 20 years of time. That's a long time. Those of you who are 30, 40, 50— 50 years of time is a long time. What the hell are you rushing to? Time is our gift. Time is our superpower. I was thinking, seriously thinking about reflecting. Reflecting. When you sit down, like right now, this moment that you listen to this podcast, you're using your time and hopefully it is sinking in what I am saying. But it's taking a while for me to get there. There, because I'm emphasizing the importance of time. I could give you this message in 5 seconds, but it doesn't change your life. I give you this message in 7 minutes and it begins to change your life. Add the element of time to those things that you want. Your greatest achievements in your life come over time. You ever heard that to manifest something, you should write it down? If you want to achieve something, write it down. Your dreams, your goal, write it down. And one of the reasons why you do that is that you set into motion the element of time, because you said, that's what I want. And I'm willing to use time to get it. I'm not going to achieve that instantly, but that's what I want. And now time works for you. See, time is a superpower. Said that before. It is there for you to eventually get what you want, but you have to use the power of time. Go forth and spread beauty and light and be gracious, or maybe be greedy with time. It is yours. No one can take away the time that you have. You can do whatever you want with your time, but use your time. Use your time to do nothing. How's that? Don't you think I was going there? Sitting down and contemplating and pondering your life is an excellent use of time. That is why time is so powerful, because it allows for things in you to be you and for things to happen and for you to connect dots and for you to relax. If you are stressed, what is the best way to de-stress? Stress yourself is by sitting down, relaxing, and using time. And over time, your shoulders will lower, your blood pressure will calm down, and things will feel better. It is time that cures all wounds, isn't it? Someone breaks your heart, someone disappoints you, You don't feel better 5 seconds later, 5 minutes later. It takes time to heal you. Don't you understand? Time is everything. Time is that missing piece that you don't understand why things don't work. It's because you haven't used time. Things take time. The best things take time. Your heart takes a long time to heal. It takes a long time to get to where you want to be. It takes a long time to save up money to buy that car or pay off that mortgage or pay off that student loan. It's always time, but time Time is your friend, but you have to understand it takes time to use time. Think of life in regards to time. Stop running around like a chicken with its head chopped off and understand that in time everything will be all right. But time's on your side. It's your friend. I know not everything is instant. We don't have many expressions in life that— but things take time. Things take instant. It doesn't even make sense. I don't know of any expressions that includes instant greens greatness. No, that's nice bullshit. Things take time. You're in school and things aren't going well. They will go well in time. You have an injury. It hurts like hell, but it's going to heal over time. Time is what makes life so beautiful. I love you. This reflection I had has taken time for me to figure it out. This podcast, these thoughts are accumulation of life experiences Over time. Everything amazing comes from time. Take care of yourself. Be nice to yourself. Appreciate that as time goes by, it is wonderful. Time is your friend. Once you understand that, once you understand that getting things instantly actually is not good, But taking weeks, taking months brings a beauty and a deep level of satisfaction that there's nothing else in life like it. It's because time makes it so. Life is beautiful when it happens over a long period of time. I love you. Until next time.
