Welcome to the Soul of Innovation podcast. I am Thomas Anglero, and let me ask you an extremely serious question. What do you do when life stops where you're at, where it changes your current life? Someone you love gets sick. You lose your job. You get divorced. You don't have the money to pay and finish off going to college, and now you have to go get a job, but you have no finished degree. You didn't get into that music school. You didn't get chosen for the school play. That person tells you, "I don't love you anymore." What do you do? This is not a joke. This is it. This is that moment. And I want you to seriously think about that answer. What do you do? Life is happening faster and faster for you all the time. Changes are coming. And if you are not part of that change, if you are not one of the original creators of the idea for that change, the change is happening to you. Not for you, and the outcome is going to be quite brutal on you. What do you do? Let me tell you a short story. I'm in a situation where I have to look around and make some major changes in my life because I have to be on top of things. I have to create my future. Enough of all these big words, actually make it happen. So what I did was I allowed myself one day, one mental day of feeling sorry for myself, and on the very next day I started putting together an action plan based on ridiculous ideas. I just took out some Post-it paper and started writing down ideas, huge ideas. Ideas of what— where I see myself that are so insane, I have no idea how the hell I'm going to achieve that. And then I knew I was on to something. Why is that process so important? That process is because you're moving away from being a damn victim, moving away from feeling sorry for yourself, moving away from saying that, why does this always happen to me? Why is my life so horrible? Why, why, why, why? That gets you nowhere. You're allowed one mental day, one mental day of feeling sorry for yourself. And then on the 24th hour and 1 minute after that day starts, you are to start making a list of where you see yourself. What situation do you see yourself? I see myself being happily in love with another person. This is the place I actually see myself. I see us together on a beach. Describe the beach. Describe the beach chair. Describe the umbrella on the beach. Describe the wave. Describe the oceans. Describe the sounds. Describe the birds. Describe it to the point of where you're actually living it. Describe the new job that you have. Describe your new colleagues. Describe the type of office you're in. Describe the cubicle. Describe The elevator. What color is the furniture? What color is the carpet? This is not about visualization. This is about seeing it and making it happen. You are not allowed to be a victim. I'm not allowing myself to be a victim. Changes happen. The only choice we have is to make sure that we are part of that change. So the outcome is exactly what we want. The problem is we get too comfortable and life throws change. Life throws change because we constantly are in a state of growing up. I know it's really hard for a lot of adults to hear that. I'm mature, I'm 40, 30 years old, 50 years old, I have kids, I drive a truck, blah, blah, blah. Bullshit. All of us need to grow up. There was something that happened in your life that needs you. You need to step up to it, and you have to step up to it. I don't care what you're dealing with, you have to step up to it. You don't have enough money to pay your bills. What the hell have you been doing wrong up until this moment? I know someone who just told me that they've been paying off a loan for the last 30 years. The last 30 years, not a mortgage, a loan. What have this person been doing wrong? Say you've been in a marriage that you should not have been in for as many years, as many decades that you've been in. What have you been doing for these years and decades? Say you are just gaming all day long. Why?
What are you avoiding?
Each one of these examples and your own personal example, you know what I'm talking about. As you listen to me right now, there's a vision, a picture comes into your head that hurts you. Your head is probably shaking and you don't want to think about it, but that's your truth. That's your truth. That's what you're avoiding, and that's where you need to mature, and that's where you need to step up and change. And until you do, you're going to be stuck in the crappy situation that you're in now. You may be comfortable, you may have a house, you may have all the physical things, materialistic things that people need, but your soul is crappy and unhappy. And the only way to bring love into your soul It's for you to spend time with that thought that's eating you alive and make that change. Think big. This is how I'm going to change that. This is how I'm going to feel better about that. This is how I'm gonna make sure my life isn't wonderful. Don't run from the fire. Run to the fire. Yell at the fire. Be pissed off at the fire. And it was your energy With your anger, with your frustration, you put out the fire. Go forth and spread beauty and light. You're not allowed to be a victim. You are not a victim. Do not blame anybody. Do not point your finger at anybody. Point your finger at yourself. Look in the damn mirror if you wanna blame somebody. And put together an insane plan that scares the living crap out of you, where you look at it and you go, I want to do that. What if I did that? Then what? There you— now you're getting close. You have to think so big that you actually get nervous. And once you start thinking that big, then you work in reverse. What do I have to do if I was in that position a few years from now. If I was in that position today, how would I have to— what would I have to do in reverse to make it from where I am now to there? What are the steps? Who do I need to talk to? What do I have to do? How many push-ups I have to do? How do I have to eat? How do I have to dress? How do I have to change the way I talk to people? How do I have to change the way I look at myself? How do I change the way how I talk to myself? Right now, it is such an intense time. I turn on the news and I see that the fires of Marseille, the riots in Marseille, the riots in Lyon in France, the riots in the United States. There's another mass shooting in the United States. There's riots in Canada. There's riots in Switzerland. North Korea's doing its thing. China's doing its thing. Russia's doing its thing, Ukraine is doing their thing. The tension levels, it's just peaking. What are you doing? How are you handling it? The way you gotta handle it is go for it. You really gotta go allow one day of feeling bad and the next day having a vision and going for that vision. That is how you handle life stress. That's how you succeed and that's how you become happy. Happy. True happiness. Not "I'm okay," but absolute insane happiness. I'm Thomas Anglero. I'm in the middle of creating a new future that scares the crap out of me. But I have to scare myself to find myself. Join me.
