2 Jan 2021 · 7 min
Thomas Anglero argues that treating every moment as the ultimate moment, staying obsessed with yourself and your ideas, and maintaining presence leads to fulfillment. He uses examples from the movie Soul, Zoom calls, and job loss to show how perspective and positivity transform ordinary life.

Welcome to the Soul of Innovation podcast. I am Thomas Anglero, and do you realize that life is about clarity, about clarity of being in the moment and realizing that that moment is why you're alive? Do you realize that? Do you realize that that is the simplicity of your happiness? Think about it. We're always chasing, we always have this vision, we always want more. We want our situation to be different, to be better. But what happens if you just say, "The moment I'm in now, the situation I'm in now is absolutely fantastic. There's no other place I'd rather be." There's no other feeling I'd rather feel. There's no other smell I'd rather smell. This is my ultimate moment. You take every moment and you do that, apply that thinking. See, we're racing and running towards something and that damn thing is annoying us. It's always got us going, which is kind of good, right? You got grit, you got, you got, you got this passion, you got this vision, and that's fantastic. But at the same time, you have to realize that when you get to that finish line, that the finish line wasn't the point. Some people's finish line is their death. Some people's finish line is that promotion. Some people's finish line is that, that diploma graduating from that school. Some people's finish line is actually getting a relationship with someone. "Yes, I got him," or "I got her," or getting married, or intimacy, or something. And it's always not what we thought it would be. It can't be. See, the trick— not even the trick— the simplicity of life is that every single moment is the end line. It is the finish line. It is the ultimate moment. We've been given, or you've been given, this incredible opportunity to have every moment as bliss and fantastic excitement and just like, damn, man, how lucky am I? How great is this that I can be always in a state of happiness? And I'm not full of crap. This is it. I saw a movie, a cartoon movie called Soul. I strongly recommend everybody to watch it. And they did such a wonderful job of putting together enough stories to make it so clear to all the children and all the adults watching that very same message. That this moment right now, that when you turn the corner and you run into someone, that when you're waiting in line to buy something, that that moment and the people in front of you, the people behind you, this is your ultimate moment and you're supposed to be there right then at that time to interact with those people. You're sitting on a train, you're sitting on a bus, the people around you, that's what you're supposed to be doing. Maybe not talking to them, maybe looking at them, maybe just feeling them. Do you look at your life from that perspective? Do you know how much more wonderful it would be be? Do you know how much less lonely you would be if you took in everyone and everything? When you have a Zoom on your PC, why don't you get excited about being on the Zoom? Like, oh, just another Zoom call. Be the person that is the energy, the spark plug of that call. Be the person everybody looks forward to being. Oh, this person's gonna be on the call. You're gonna be on the call. Oh, this is gonna be a great call because you're gonna be on the call. Just light up your life because every moment is already lit. It's just that we have sunglasses on and we see everything through this darkness and this, oh, on the other side of the fence, oh, on the next day, oh, if I could lose this, oh, if I could have that. Life is already fantastic. Just look at what you're doing and where you're at. Okay, things happen. You get fired, lose a job. Unemployment sucks. Not enough money sucks. Sickness in the family sucks. But what great things are happening otherwise? You're only going to get out of that hole by thinking and feeling in a positive way. This is not that think positive, everything else will happen. It's more than that. It's actually believe that your life is the most, the greatest thing there is. I'm telling you, I'm so excited because I realize that it's the simpler ways of thinking about every moment and about life and people that brings me happier and happier. It's not complicated. It's not a difficult formula. It's not some crazy thing. It's actually you want You want to be happier, you want to make more money, just be freaking simple. Be obsessed by yourself, be obsessed over your ideas, be obsessed over just being happy, and everything will come. Everything comes. Be obsessed over you. I want you to be obsessed over you, all the time. See how fortunate you are to be on the top of that mountain with some skis on your feet, to be at that beach with the sand between your toes, to be in that noisy city with the smell in your nose. Wherever you are, be happy. Is your hand touching a table or the arm of a chair or your leg? Can you feel that? Isn't that fantastic? You can feel. You can feel. Isn't that beautiful? And start from there. You have a gift. You have a gift of life. You have a gift that is you can always be happy. Just take a moment and remember. You are happy. Go forth and spread beauty and light and your happiness and be in the moment because every moment is your moment. This is Thomas Anglero and until the next time.
