Welcome to the Soul of Innovation podcast. I am Thomas Anglero. You ever try to force life to go the way you want it to go? You envision yourself in a job, in a position, in a situation that you're not in now, and you just want to change everything you're doing. You're making decisions that will lead you to that path, and it's difficult. For some reason, things aren't working. It's just as hard as you try, you just feel like you're swimming the wrong way up a stream. That's the current so strong. No matter what you do. Let me ask you something. Why don't you just go with the flow? Just go with it. I am definitely just like you. I have ambitions. I have dreams. I have a picture of myself, not where I'm at now. Over where I'm destined to be, just like you. That picture that you have in your head of yourself, you may not be 100% crystal clear, but you could see yourself happier. You could see yourself prouder. You could see yourself maybe wealthier, but you don't see yourself where you are today. You see yourself being better. Better than where you are today, happier than you are today, more fulfilled than the way you feel today. But yet, no matter what you try, you can't get there because whatever you're doing today is not meant to be. So therefore, you should go with the flow. What I mean by going with the flow is that If for some reason the thing that you're doing now, whatever you're doing now, if it seems easy, too easy for you, that it takes you no extra effort to do what you're doing and you're doing it well, you may be doing it better than other people around you, then why don't you just go with the flow? Is there anything you do that comes so easy to you and very difficult to other people? Keep doing it and just go with that flow. You know, so many people say that you're supposed to fight the fight, you're supposed to grind it out, you're supposed to hustle, you're supposed to endure the pain, you're supposed to put in years of effort, pay your dues. That's a lot of swimming upstream, a lot of swimming against the current, against whatever universe, whatever forces out there. I think I've been doing— I'm thinking— I know I've been doing— I've been doing it for a long time. Maybe you've been doing it too. Maybe you're doing that with a marriage that you're in. You're trying and trying and trying to change it. You're trying to change her or change him. Are you trying to change your kids? Are you trying to change your boss? Are you trying to change your professor's purview of you? Or add it to anything you want. It's just you're not going with the flow. Just go with it. Maybe there's a reason that things are so difficult with what you're attempting to do. I've always told people, if it doesn't work, if the formula doesn't work, change the formula. And it's not working. Go with the flow. See where you end up. See where you're destined to be. Maybe life is pushing you towards a place, towards a person, towards a moment that will lead you to that vision of where you see yourself. You ever thought about it that way? You ever thought, maybe I should just not take— not the easy path, but let me take the path that I can do without even breaking a sweat, the path I can do so easily. How far can I take this path if I flow down the stream and I go with the flow? Where does this stream take me? How long will I flow? Will I flow to a bigger city, a wealthier city, a happier city, happier people? Where am I destined to be if I go with the flow? Do you go with the flow? Interesting, isn't it? You can make your life a hell of a lot easier if you're just easier on yourself. And go with what you know. Now, I'm not saying— notice my tone is changing— I'm not saying for you to sit down on the sofa and watch more Netflix and say, I'm just going with the flow. That's not it at all. What I'm saying is what you're putting your effort in, what are you putting your energy into that is working? They may not inspire you 100%. It may not get you all excited, and it may seem so damn minuscule. It may be a little bit belittling, a little beneath your stature where you see yourself, but for some reason it's doing well, it's profitable, it's making other people happy. Just go with it. Remember, it's about the people you meet. If there's one thing in life that I find to be the most exciting thing is that life is about who is the next person I'm going to meet that's going to make my life so much fuller. It's going to take my life from small capital L-I-F-E to all capitalized in bold, underlined, italics L-I-F-E. It's about who's the people you're going to meet. So maybe what you're doing now is not the most exciting thing, but it's going to lead you to an invitation to another meeting. It's going to lead you to a moment where you're on the elevator because you have to deliver that piece that piece of paper or that document, or you have to be a messenger riding that bike down the streets of New York or Tokyo, Hong Kong, or Rome, and you bump into somebody. But because you're doing that minuscule job of being a bicycle messenger, you run into someone who changes your life. Maybe you fall in love, they fall in love with you. They get to hear about your passion, your ability to play the piano, your ability to sing, your ability to run faster than anybody else. Go with the flow and let life take you to meet the people you're supposed to meet, to have the moments supposed to have. Stop fighting it. Just go with it. But go with it with all the energy and the passion and the belief and the confidence that you have in yourself. But go with that flow. I believe that's actually another way of doing it. I believe in the grind. I believe in busting my butt. And I believe in believing in me, and I believe you should believe in you more than anybody else does. But sometimes when it— you just— you're trying everything and it doesn't work. If the formula doesn't work, change the formula. Flip it over and go with the flow. I hope this message makes you feel a little bit easier about your situation, and you also be easier on yourself. Not everything that is difficult is meant to be difficult. You're in a difficult situation, make it undifficult, but just don't make it so serious. Don't make it so complicated. Just go with it for a little while. You don't have to go with it forever. If the question you have for me is, or you have for yourself, how long do I go with the flow? Go with the flow and see where it takes you. Back to that metaphor. Flow down that stream for as long as it feels comfortable and it doesn't disturb you. See where it takes you, but just don't relax forever. It's going to take you to that next place, that next spot down the stream where you're going to turn the corner And you're gonna see where you know you're supposed to. Get off that boat, get on that land, and stand up and get to work. Go forth and spread beauty and light and go with the flow. I love you. This is Thomas Anglero. And I'll see you, and I'll speak to you the next time.
