Hello and welcome to the Soul of Innovation podcast. I am the host Thomas Anglero, and my mission for this podcast is to share with you those private thoughts and reflections that I have being one of the top keynote speakers around the world on technology, motivation, and innovation. I hope you truly enjoy all the lessons I share, all the dots I connect that sometimes are just really difficult to get out but it's all for you. I truly hope you enjoy this episode. Welcome to the Soul of Innovation podcast. I'm your host, Thomas Anglero, and I want to talk about how much time we waste when we do things like Netflix binge, and then we look at other people who are successful and we, we are envious, or we're jealous, or we say they just got lucky, or Or we come up with all sorts of excuses, yet we discount, we disrespect that person who's probably invested tens of thousands of hours of hard work to make their success the way it is, at the level that it is, to the width that it is.
And yet so many of us spend our most valuable time, our time here in life, doing things that don't produce anything for us. And it's almost proportional for the amount of time that we—
I'm just as an example—
the amount of time that we binge on Netflix, that, that are those many hours that when we see somebody who's successful, our, our dislike for that person is equally proportional to the amount of time we spent not investing in ourselves, doing things like Netflix, going out to a bar, going to the movies, or choose your distraction. Is that you? Here's, here's a direct message because you could clean this up right away. You're wondering why aren't you successful? Why don't you have more money? Why don't you have the love of your life right now? Um, why, why all the victim things?
It's proportional to the amount of time that you spend not being you. You spent watching Netflix, you spent doing something that did not invest in you. Or the perfect example is with an ice cream between your legs. Let's say, say a Ben Jerry's ice cream between your legs with a big spoon and you're shoving the ice cream down your mouth. Tastes good, then the long-term effect is double negative. Is that you? Now here's the powerful positive message. First thing is, a lot of you gonna be going, no, that's not me.
Stop, stop.
Every one of us is guilty of guilty pleasures, all right? It's normal to have guilty pleasures. It's not normal to have guilty pleasures on a consistent basis and then be envious of other people or jealous. That's not good. That's not normal. So it's okay to have guilty pleasures. You've had those. This is you, a piece of you, a part of you. You can turn everything around. Just by saying, okay, I'm going to only focus now on maybe those guilty pleasures, Netflix binging. Instead of, I don't know what to do on a Saturday, let me watch Netflix all day. Instead of having that default setting, have a new default setting saying, I don't know what to do on Saturday, there's nothing really planned, let me do something that I haven't done before that would really challenge me and be really exciting. Let me take my mobile phone and, um, get my selfie stick. If you don't have a selfie stick, buy it at some store. It's really cheap now, selfie sticks, because there's so many millions of them out there.
And let me go for a walk and let me shoot some selfies.
Matter of fact, let me shoot a quick, uh, 10-20 second video and put that on Instagram.
Let me do something that's really uncomfortable. And, and even better yet, try this one.
This is really cool.
Shoot the video, put it on Instagram on the first take.
That's right. I want you to record the video, put it out there on for the whole world to see on your very first take. Don't shoot the video and don't watch it go, oh no, that was not good, my hair wasn't right, or I sound like an idiot, or I made mistakes.
Put it out there.
Do you know how much you'll grow from that? Now you're investing in you. Now by you doing that, you just did something that's completely new to you and you opened up a whole new door of you.
You've now taken your insecurity and you shrunken it. You chopped it in a third, maybe in half, who knows. You chopped it, it's no longer as big and you become stronger. The world is not gonna laugh at you because the world is full of a bunch of insecure people who aren't willing to expose themselves, who aren't willing to invest in themselves, who are not willing to get off the damn sofa with the Ben Jerry's between their legs watching Netflix. That's where people are.
No offense to Ben Jerry's, I love the damn ice cream. I'm definitely a Ben Jerry's between the legs type of guy.
Everybody, everyone is guilty of being too much on the damn sofa. Not enough people are doing, and too much of those same damn people, maybe it's you, are envious. Is there somebody at work you're envious of? Is there somebody at work, let's just twist to word envy too. Is somebody at work you don't like? Somebody at work you, you give a dirty look to, but you don't think you've learned to look to, but every time you walk by them, you see them in the hallway, you're like, hmm, hmm, why? They didn't do anything to you. Some people have, but most people— what is it within you that triggers that feeling?
What is it?
Is there a person in the gym that you just don't like seeing? If you go to the gym, they really make you— what is it about you, not them? What is it about you? If you were at your A-game, if you know that you weren't spending time binging, you know you were out there training, you know you were out there being the ultimate version you, you were lifting weights, you were speaking, you were working, you were learning, you were taking online courses, you were expanding your intellect, you were being the ultimate version of you, doo doo doo doo doo doo doo, And then when you see this person, or you see anyone in life, you would greet them with love. You would greet them with a smile because your self-confidence is through the roof. But because you've not invested that time in you, because you're not there, because you feel horrible about yourself, because you, you're spending your time— you know that you're not spending your time investing in you— when you meet someone, when you see someone, when you read about someone who's successful you're envious or you're disdained or you have a taste in your mouth or you have a weird— your eyes squint or something like that. And because it's a self-reflection that you haven't invested in you. But you could turn that around right now. Just, you know, they say it's not too late. I think that's bull. It just happens right now. Right now. Pause the podcast. Go for a damn walk. You don't have to go for a run. Go for a walk. Go for a long walk, a 1-hour walk. If you live in the city, I grew up in New York City, hey, there's enough lefts and rights to keep you making a—
you can walk for the rest of your life in that damn city and not cover the same streets.
If you live in a small town, go around the perimeter of the damn town. Visit every, uh, here you go, visit every senior citizen center in the town. And greet everybody who's in the senior citizen center, all the people who are there. That'll take you a couple hours. Do that every day. Get off your butt. Invest in yourself. Get moving. Open up your PC. You don't have to pay for an online course. There's tons. There's Khan Academy. Literally all the knowledge, my God, thousands and thousands of collegiate courses, college courses are provided there for free. You can expand your knowledge on every— almost everything, literally everything for free. Open up YouTube and there you have kids from 6—
what, no, I saw a girl 4 years old, she has like 10 million followers, incredible.
4 years old, she could barely speak, her parents are doing the webcasting and stuff, but she's the main star. From 4 years old to 90 years old plus, and they— people are providing their information, their life stories, and they're literally saying, this is how I've become successful, here is my secret.
For free. The only thing you got to do is you got to stop what you've been doing and you got to just do for you. Do for you. This is your moment, all right? This is it. You shouldn't be walking around feeling bad about yourself. You shouldn't walk around feeling that you're overweight. You shouldn't walk around feeling all these negative thoughts, the victim thinking. You're not a victim. No, I say, let's be more honest, okay? You are a victim of yourself. Self-neglect, self-doubt, loss of self-interest. But you could turn all that around right now. And when you return back from that 1-hour walk, do you know how much better you are? A hell of a lot better. And you just have to be consistent with that. I promise you, I absolutely promise you, that when you invest in you on a consistent daily or even hourly basis, In a few days, weeks, months at most, you will see the new you. And better yet, everyone else will see the new you. Don't be that guy or that girl who, like I did when I was walking down the hall, I noticed a person And now they're stuck in my mind and wondering, why? Why is that person so angry at me? Or at least give me a look of anger. And I go, I know why. They haven't invested in themselves. Because if you've invested in yourself, then why are you gonna be angry when you meet someone else who's successful? You're successful too. That's the success. Success doesn't have to be money. Success is just, I feel good about me. That's the most powerful success there is. Do you feel good about you? If you don't, invest in you. Invest in— how do you know where to invest? Where are the areas of your life or your personality that you feel you're the weakest? And that's where you begin. And if you need help finding those places, just pick up the phone, or better yet, go to a friend's house and ask them, where can I be better? Or if you're married or you live with someone, ask them, how can I be better? This is Thomas Anglero wanting all you to love yourselves more by investing in yourself more, by being the ultimate version of you. I love you. Go forth and spread beauty and light.
