Upgrade Yourself: It's Time to Trade Passive for Powerful
25 May 2024 · 12 min
Thomas Anglero argues you need to stop passively consuming information and start taking action to prepare for AI-driven change. He pushes concrete steps: practice tools like ChatGPT, invest in your health and skills, and "10x your doing." The stakes are real, and waiting is the mistake.

Welcome to the Soul of Innovation podcast. I am Thomas Anglero, and let me ask you a question: why is it so difficult for you to change? Why is it so difficult that when you hear something that triggers you inside, that you know is right, you know that you should be listening and you probably should follow up because your life depends on it, and you don't do it. Let me tell you a story. I was speaking at a conference recently, and I told this world-famous company about the changes that are happening— this is not what's going to happen— are happening due to AI and technology. And they listened to me And the majority of the crowd just did not pay attention. They're an engineering company and they're getting hit with this thing dead in the bullseye and denial. Why is it that we see— when we experience something that we know is going to hurt us, we bury our head in the ground? What's coming now, these technological changes with AI and everything, It doesn't only affect you from your 9 to 5 when you're at work. This is going to change the food on your table. It's going to change the money in your pocket. It's going to change your relationship, and it's going to change whether or not you could pay the rent or you could pay the mortgage. Everything is changing now. You could talk to a computer and it's more— is there 24 hours a day. It's emotionally available for you. It's compassionate. It has a sweet voice. It has everything. You can digitalize your late, late grandmother. If you have a picture and a couple of audio tracks of her, it will simulate as if it's her. The world has completely changed. This is not coming. This is here. Relationships, conversation, communication, looking at a TV screen, looking at a mobile phone. You now, as of June, will be able to control your mobile phone without even touching it. You could change the screens, you could change the open and close apps just by looking at it. We're at such a technological advancement now. Everything changes. But how are you changing? What are you doing about it? This stuff isn't stuff for newspapers. This is stuff that's going to absolutely obliterate your normal life. What are you doing about it? When you're in a relationship and it goes to hell, you know why it went to hell. You saw the warning signs, but you didn't do a damn thing, did you? You're in school. You know you're not prepared. You didn't prepare well for the tests. The test goes to hell. You saw the warning signs. You didn't do a damn thing for it. Same thing why you didn't make the team. Same thing why you didn't get picked for that position. You weren't ready for it. Right now, are any of you preparing for the massive, massive individual changes that are going to happen because of artificial intelligence and AI? All of us, all of us are going to be affected. They're talking about having universal income where everybody gets a base salary. That's basically saying we have no solution, but we got to give people money so that they can feed themselves and pay their bills. That's basically throwing your hands up. Are you going to throw your hands up? There is still time to do something, prepare. How much time do you spend? How much time do you spend in preparing for when you know everything's about to go to hell? When your relationships, anything, do you spend time trying to fix it, or do you just yell at the other person? What do you do when you face adversity? It's a damn good question. What do you do when you face adversity? I recently broke my arm. Can't use it. They say it's gonna take months before it's usable and fixed and all that. I laughed the thing off. I'm using it. I'm training with it. I'm months ahead of schedule. I laugh at what they tell me. I know what I'm capable of. I know what I got to get done in the timeframe I got to get done. I don't know what the outcome is going to be, but I know what the— I set my own limits. I know that I drive my own life. I drive my own reality. That's how you get shit done. But if you sit back and listen to other people's comments, even though if they got a doctor title, even if they got a professor title, even if they're their damn boss, leader, whatever, or they're your spouse, or they're your mother or your father, and you listen to them, then you're letting them guide you in your life. Guide your own life, because they're not going to be there when you lose your income, you lose your house, you lose the person you love, you lose your car, you lose that position in the job, you lose your job. It's time that you get aggressive. It's time that you stand up and do something. Stop reading, stop listening to podcasts, which is hypocritical of me because this is a damn podcast, but it's true. You know, I was talking to somebody, a few people, and they all told me that they have a whole list of podcasts and that I'm on their list of podcasts that they listen to. And I was like, thank you very much. And to all of you listening, thank you very much for listening to this podcast. I honestly, I truly appreciate it. But then I had a reflection. I asked the person, how many people, how many podcasts are on your list. When you say list, what, what, how big is the list? I mean, it was between 25 and 75 different podcasts. If you're spending that much time listening, which is wonderful food for the mind, how much time you spend doing? Profound. Let me say that again. If you're spending that much time listening, maybe just not listening to podcasts, but listening to other people, watching YouTube videos, watching Netflix, reading a book, always absorbing. Or as one woman said to me, I'm using my time manifesting. Manifesting. In other words, I'm not doing anything, I'm just thinking and envisioning myself with $10 million. And it's going to happen because I'm manifesting it. But she's not doing anything towards it. My point is, it is wonderful that you're doing all these things, that you're listening and using all this time to take in all that wonderful information and data. But you have to 10x the time of doing. For every 1 hour you spend listening, you should be using 10 times the amount of hours doing. You listen to a podcast about how to use ChatGPT. That podcast took half an hour. You now should dedicate 10 to 3, 3:30, 3:30, 5 hours. There's the math. 30 minutes times 10, 300 minutes, 5 hours. 30-minute podcast on ChatGPT, you should spend 5 hours using ChatGPT for your own way. You're finding out how it helps you. Invest in you. Do. Stop listening, or reduce your listening, or don't change your listening but 10x your doing.
How's that?
That's the way to do it. Because I think it's great you're taking all this information, but you got to do. It's time to do. I am seriously worried. I'm seriously worried because I talk to all these damn engineers and all sitting back going, do you know who I am? I got 30 years of experience. I don't have to worry about the future, is not going to affect me because I'm so damn good. And I said, you missed my point. AI has all the information in the world. It knows everything you know. It's read every textbook you read. Matter of fact, it read them in Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, Persian. It's also read the research papers that were based on— that the books were based on. It knows more than you, and you're sitting back and you're relaxing. None of us are sitting back and relax. I need you to do. This is me crying out for you to start doing, doing. Are you a little overweight? Start doing. Get up, walk. Get up and bike. You having health problems? Stop eating or take supplements or do what you know is right. This is the time to do. This is your time to do. I am dead serious. I spent an entire day looking at these people, talking to them, and at the end of the day, there was about 10 people came up to me and said, Thomas Anglero, that was so motivational. You seriously changed me. And I could see the fire in their eye. And all the other people, they thought it was entertainment. Go forth and spread beauty and light. Fire yourself up. You have to. We have geopolitical wars, we have crises, we have genocide in the Middle East. We have problems all over the world. I don't want to get into the details of it all. If you're not fired up now, if you're sitting back and wondering, oh, I need to be in the sun some more, I need to relax some more, you're like a deer in headlights.
Time to get fired up, people.
Time to invest in you. I cannot be soft, not at this moment. Not when I spent so much time with so many people who thought that the last 30 years of their life is gonna help them the next 30. The next 30 minutes of your life will help you for the next 30 years of your life. The last 30 doesn't count. I'm Thomas Anglero. I truly do believe in you. Do you believe in you? Do you invest in you? Do you do you? It's a damn good question. Do you do you? Do you do what you know is best for you?
Do.
I love you. Until next time.
