Thomas Anglero argues you waste time consuming content instead of doing the work. Stop watching tutorials, ignore people who doubt you, and commit to one thing consistently. Your success depends on action, not inspiration.

Hello and welcome to the Soul of Innovation podcast. I am the host Thomas Anglero, and my mission for this podcast is to share with you those private thoughts and reflections that I have being one of the top keynote speakers around the world on technology, motivation, and innovation. I hope you truly enjoy all the lessons I share, all the dots I connect that sometimes are just really difficult to get out but it's all for you. I truly hope you enjoy this episode. Welcome to the Soul of Innovation podcast. I am Thomas Anglero, and I'm inspired because I figured out how to be successful. It's actually really easy, and I want to share it with you. The answer is just do shit. How's that? Excuse me for cursing, but I mean, I I can't tell you how much easier and direct is just by doing something. Seriously, do you know how much time people around you, your friends, people you go to school with, or you go to work with, or everyone around you— I'm being dead serious— in your immediate radar and one degree of separation away from the people in your radar, they all talk crap and comment. And people will, and they always will, but they're not doing a damn thing. Think about it. If everybody you knew— I'm not going to take it to the example of if everybody in this world, because that's too damn big, right? 7 billion people is a lot of people. Just the people, your friends. Think for a moment who are your friends. Got a picture of them, okay? Your colleagues, people you go to work with, all right? People you see every day, people you commute on the train or bus with. Yeah, okay, you got it. If every one of those people, or maybe half, 50% of those people, were going for it, were doing things every day, then it would rub off on you. You would have conversations every day, and you'd be stimulated every day, and you would be like somebody drinking 25 cups of caffeine every day because you're like, uh, overstimulated with energy and excitement, and then you would be getting stuff done. Is that your life today? Are you feeding off the energy of, well, your— the people around you, your friends around you, your colleagues around you? Are you being charged up, huh? Seriously, if the answer is no, that's because people talk too damn much and they don't do enough, if they do anything at all other than comment about other people. So the key to success is just doing something. Or as I said before, doing some shit. Doing something. I mean, seriously, what is it that you want to get done? For example, this podcast. God knows how many people tell me, why am I doing a podcast? I'm really struggling right now to think of anyone who actually compliments me on doing a podcast. When I do public speaking, for the first few years, people going, "Why are you doing public speaking? Who do you think you are?" Every time I do something, always the first year— do you understand? Learn from this. Every time I do something new, for the first year, for the next minimum 365 days, negative criticism, comment, no compliments, no encouragement. It ain't gonna happen. It's the way people are designed. And these are the people in my inner circle. Forget about people who are in the outer circle who have no vested interest in giving me any type of positive information. It is the way people are. But guess what? You win. You just gotta do something. You just got to do some— you just gotta do. I swear to you, I, I, I don't know how to say this. I wish I could do this in multiple languages so everybody listening can understand this, because last month, um, number one country listening to the podcast was from the Czech Republic. Hi everybody in the Czech Republic, I'm sorry I don't speak your native language. Listen to me, doing is the key to success. Doing is going to put you at a level outside of your friends. It's going to make them uncomfortable because you're different. But you already know you're different. There's no one else like you. So why the hell aren't you just being you all the time? What is it that you want to do? I'm not telling you to do a podcast. I'm not telling you to be a pub— don't follow me, don't follow anybody, you understand? What is it that you're into? What is it you want to get done? And just do the damn thing and do it every day. I've talked about this before. Success is the key to doing something over and over again, not the same thing, but consistency. But you got to just start doing And this is the thing that's killing me, is that I don't see enough people. I don't see, I don't hear about, and I don't read about enough of you doing. You're thinking, but you're not doing. Listen to an audiobook, fantastic, but that is not doing. It's learning. Listening or watching a YouTube video about something you're interested in is fantastic. That's educational. It's learning, but it's not doing. You know, what's the proportion of the number of YouTube videos and audiobooks or books you read? What is the number of those activities compared to the number of things you've done? Is it a 20-to-1 ratio? Do you understand what I'm saying? Do. And don't look for compliments. I'll give you a stupid story. I went for a run and it was up to the top of this mountain, and I thought that by the time I got to the top of that mountain that they'd literally be a band waiting for me, because at the top of the mountain there was this cabin where people sit and they buy waffles and hot cocoas and they sit with their kids. So it's always crowded. And I thought when I ran up there and all these people saw me get there, that they would like stand up from— stop their meal, stand up and go, yeah, hey, hey, hey! I got to the top of that mountain the first time I made it up there. I got there and I went into my Rocky pose, like, and these people sat there looking, looking at me like, what is this fool doing? Then he looked away, and that was the end of my moment. No one cares, no one gives a shit, no one's looking out for you. That's all the more reason why your success is going to mean even more to you. It's going to be even more beautiful, and it's going to elevate you for the rest of your life. Your insecurities gone, your confidence up. It's all about you doing, and no one's going to feed you. And that's the beauty, it's all you. Don't you see? The key to success, your success, is you doing something every day. But you gotta do something. That's it. I want you to tap into what is that thing you want to do most of all. I've always wanted to play an instrument, and I am seriously Gonna teach myself a damn instrument. It's not gonna sound good at all for the first 365 weeks, maybe, but I'm gonna teach myself an instrument. But I don't care that the neighbors will probably move out and I will lower the price of all the homes in neighborhood. Oh, so what? Sorry, but I'm gonna teach myself an instrument. It's what I want to do. What is it that you want to do? What you want to do doesn't have to be money generating. It has to be what you've always wanted to do. Do you get it? Success, your success, is you being you and you doing something. I'm smiling and laughing because it really is that easy. And I'm sorry if I'm not being direct and not giving you a list of things that you're supposed to do, but I don't know what, what you're made of, right? What are you made out of? Have you gone for a walk and actually have that question in 2020? Right? This year, the year of 2020, what are you made of now? Because what we're made of changes all the time. What are you made of? Or better, what do you want to be known to be made from? That's powerful. Whatever it is, go for it. Do it. Be it. Go for it. Do it. Be it. Go for it. Then do it. And then you will be it. All you, baby. Go forth and spread beauty and light. You know I am your biggest fan. At those moments that you feel that nobody's got your back, I got your back. I'm rubbing your back. Those moments that you feel that the world hates you, I love you. At those moments that you are crying, you got my shoulder. You're never, ever, ever alone. I look forward to seeing you and meeting you. Till next time. Thank you for listening to that episode.
