What is going on? Ladies and gentlemen, in this video, I'm going to be showing you five things that successful life insurance agents do every single day that unsuccessful agents do not. Now, if you don't know who I am, my name is Tim Shooker. I run the life insurance sales channel and I also have a company called Advanced Agent Marketing where we help life insurance agents basically install a marketing system inside of their business that allows them to get their own high intent leads and also get pre booked appointments on their calendar. I've been in the business for the last three and a half years and over that time I've coached and worked with literally hundreds of agents. And I've kind of seen like the patterns that, you know, consistently appear among the people that see the most success. And these are also the things that I have done myself to see the most success in the business. So without any further ado, let's go ahead and dive right into it here.
All right, so let's go ahead and dive right into it here. Now the first thing that we're going to talk about is something that not a lot of agents do, but the people that like consistently win, the people that see the most success, they all do this, right? And this is also something that a lot of pro athletes do. That among the top performers, they all do this one thing, right? And what that one thing is is it's watching game footage.
Watching game footage, or in this case.
Listening to calls, right? So listening to calls and you may be saying like, okay, you know, that sounds great in theory, but why would I actually listen to my own calls? Well, the thing is what happens is you go out and you do all this action. You jump on the phone, you make the calls, whatever, and you run into different situations. You have these conversations and when you're in the moment, it's hard to analyze your action. When you're doing the action, right? Doing and then analyzing and improving are two very, very different tasks and two very different skill sets, right? So part of your time during the day you're going out and you're doing.
And then if you want to get this, the doing gets it done. But if you want to get better, you have to also do analyzing, right? If you want to improve, you need to analyze your work. You can't just do it, right? You have to also analyze. And so what listening to your calls allows you to do is you're able to pick out these different things that you're doing well and then other things that you're doing not so well and then you can do more of what you're doing well and less of what you're doing, not so well. So it's the ultimate way to shortcut improvement in your skill set of selling over the phone and is by listening to your calls. Right? Now, the way that I recommend doing this, like on a tactical level is basically you're going to go out and at the end of the day, you're going to listen to one sales call, right? So pick one call and then what you're going to do is find a call that you either did really well.
Like really good, you did a great job on the call, or it was like really close.
Really close to like a sale or no sale, right? So the way that I would describe this, if you're like, you know, if you were an athlete, I would say watch like your best game or watch a game where it was like a nail biter and you either just barely won or barely lost, right? These are the calls you're going to learn the most from is when you did a really good job or it was like really close to being a sale or not being a sale, right? That's where you're gonna be able to learn the most. And if you're just getting started and you're not getting any sales, then just listen to a call where you thought you could have done better, right? And basically what you're gonna do is you're gonna listen to this one call and then in those calls you're gonna look for one thing you did well.
One thing you did well.
One thing you could improve on for improvement.
So one thing you did well, one thing for improvement, and then you want to write down the prospects, why.
Like their reason for buying insurance, and then rate your call on a scale of 1 to 10, right? And what I usually do is I'll just like create a form, like a Google form that I'll just fill out every day. So you do one thing you did well, one thing you could improve upon the prospects. Why? Because ultimately you want to be searching for that on the call. And if you don't know it when you listen to the call, that means that you need to improve and then rate the call on a scale of 1 to 10. And if you do that habit, you're going to see massive success. And this is something that all top insurance agents do, right? Now, the second thing that successful agents do, the unsuccessful agents do not hit their dial quota, Right? And to hit your dial quota, first of all, you actually have to have a dial quota. So that's that's the first step. But then they actually hit their quota, right?
So if you, like, what you want to do is you want to set a minimum standard for yourself. I call them hygiene standards. Because a hygiene standard is something that every single day, you're going to do it, right? If the minimum requirement for you is to brush your teeth every day, you're going to brush your teeth every day. If the minimum requirement for you is to make $200 a day, you're going to make $200 a day or you're going to go to bed feeling, like, really gross, right? So you want to set a quota or, like, a hygiene standard for yourself. As far as, like, on my worst day, I'm still going to make this many calls, right? So let's say, for example, it was 250 calls minimum every day, right? And if you're using a power dialer, this doesn't take that much time. It's really not that hard. So 250 dials on your worst day, which, like, if you're doing this full time, that's nothing, right? And literally just actually, like, being able to say that you did this at the end of the day, just, like, checking it off, okay, I actually hit my dial quota and I actually did this thing, right? It's literally that simple. So successful agents say, I'm gonna make. I'm gonna do this. And then they do it.
Fundamentally. So make sure that you set a dial quota and then you hit it. Now, the third thing may come as a bit of a surprise, but this is actually working out or exercising, right? So working out, exercising, whatever you want to call it. The reason that successful agents do this is because it gets their blood flowing. It gets them out of this sedentary state. Because essentially what happens is, like, most people, they wake up.
They go eat something, like, super sugary, right? So they have breakfast.
They either eat something really sugary or like, they just eat, like, a ton of bread, like a ton of carbs, and then they go and they sit down.
For, like, four hours. And then they feel sleepy and they lose their focus, right? Because they're also jacked up on coffee from breakfast. So you sit down, and then all of a sudden you just have this crash, right? And then you literally have, like, less productive time because you have this crash from the crap that you're eating. And then you go back to sleep.
And then the next day you wake up and there's no movement. Like, the only movement you're doing is, like, walking from your desk to the Fridge to the bed, because you work from home. And so if you're not adding in exercise, you're not moving, like, adding in some kind of, like, consistent movement, some kind of consistent outlet for your body. Like, all that we are is where, like, we're a brain and a body and a soul and all of that lives inside of your body. So if you don't take care of your body and you're not exercising, like, your performance and work is just going to, like, plummet, right? So make sure that you add some form of exercise to your daily routine, because if you don't, like, it doesn't matter how much money you make, you're going to die early. So, like, it makes sense to consistently work out because not only is it going to improve your performance at work, but it's also just going to make you overall happier, healthier, and everything that comes with that. So the most successful agents that I've seen, they're usually in shape, they take care of themselves, they work out. Maybe they run or they walk or, you know, they hit the gym. Whatever the outlet is for you, maybe it's bike riding or pickleball or whatever it is, make sure you have some kind of workout inside of your day. And even if it takes away from your dial time, it's productive because it makes every other part of your day more productive, right? So working out is the third thing. The fourth one is something I call ptt.
Now, basically what this means is planning tomorrow today. So before, like, successful insurance agents go to bed or they clock out for the day, if you want to call it that, they plan out what they're going to do the next day, and they basically already know what their priorities are going into the following day, right? So, for example, if I know after today, I need to go and make X amount of dials, right? So I need to make $250 tomorrow. I'm writing that down. 250 dials. I need to follow up with, you know, Bobby.
Right? Follow up with Bobby. I need to call, you know, X carrier to push through an app, right? I'm listing out these things that I need to do before I go to sleep so that the following day I come to my workstation and I know exactly what I need to get done. And you make 250 dials. I need to call Bobby and follow up with her. And then I need to call the carrier to get, you know, this policy pushed through. And then I can go through and I can say, hey, did I have a successful day? Yes, I made $250. Yes, I followed up with Bobby, and then, yes, I called the carrier. And literally, just doing this will make you so much more productive and make you get so much more done. Because when you start work, instead of having to think about what you need to do, you're just doing it, right? So the most successful agents plan tomorrow, today, and the last one is everybody's favorite thing to do because nobody, like, except for the successful agents, actually do this and is tracking your numbers right. Now, I have a whole separate video on this because.
It'S insane to me how few agents actually track their numbers and, like, know what's going on in their business. And I say this from a. From a place of love because I used to be in the same position where I didn't track anything, and then I realized how stupid it was. But, like, if you are complaining about people not answering the phone or you're not making the money that you want to make and you're not tracking your numbers, you have no room to complain, right? Because unless you can look at a spreadsheet and say, hey, this is my answer rate, it's 2%. That is a problem that we need to solve. Then, like, what are. Like, if you're just saying, oh, I feel like nobody's answering, well, you could have a 10% answer rate, which is amazing, and feel like nobody's answering, right? And so the reason that tracking your numbers is so important is because you can either run your business and make decisions off of facts or feelings, right?
And people that base their business off of facts, they make better decisions and they make more money. Whereas people that base their business off of feelings, they lose tons of money because they jump from thing to thing, right? So if you want to be successful, track your damn numbers. Know how many dials you're making, know how much AP you're writing, know how much you're spending on leads. And if, like, if you. If the reason you're not tracking your numbers is because you don't know how, I'm going to include a link to a resource that I made that's literally our entire number tracking spreadsheet that you can just download and use for yourself for free. It'll help you track all of your numbers and show you exactly what you need to input into the sheet so that you can have a better pulse on what's going on in your business, right? So, ladies and gents, without any further ado, these are the five things that successful agents do that unsuccessful agents do not. And. And I promise you.
