If I Started Selling Insurance In 2025, I'd Do This To Make $10k/mo

Timothy Schucker breaks down how a new life insurance agent reaches $10k monthly: pick the right agency, generate leads on Facebook for $4-$20 each, master a repeatable sales script, and obsess over follow-up in a CRM. He shows his own March 2024 deposits of $18,835 and covers the foundational habits that actually matter.

If I were a brand new life insurance agent in 2025, this is exactly what I would do, step by step to go from zero to making $10,000 a month. So what you're seeing right here is every single thing that I would do from just getting started to making 10k per month. And in this video, I'm going to walk you through and break down all of those steps. But first and foremost, why should you even listen to me when it comes to getting the $10,000 a month as a life insurance agent? Well, I'm going to show you right now, this is a random month in our business. And this is actually March of 2024. And you can see the total deposits were $18,835. Now, the majority of these deposits are directly from insurance companies right here. So most of this money is commissions from selling life insurance. So you can trust that I know what I'm talking about because we've done this for ourselves and we've also done this for dozens and dozens of other agents. For example, this is Jorge, who was able to make $13,000 in profit in one single month without making a single phone call. So made $13,000 in profit without dialing. Or you could look at Arison Eddy, who are doing 30k per month, only working 3, 3 hours per day, and they're using this system that I'm about to show you guys in just a second. Or you look at Ben, who did $42,000 in sales in one month. Point is, this system works. So without any further ado, let me dive in and show you how I would go from 0 to 10k a month as a life insurance agent. Now, the first step, obviously you need to get licensed. I assume if you're watching this video, you already have a license. If you don't have a license, go watch this video on the screen here. It's a full step by step breakdown that shows you how to get your license. And the 2024 version one still works in 2025. All right, so we're going to start with step number one. Outside of getting licensed, which is picking a market. Now, most agents, when they get into the business, they completely overlook the step and they just go into whatever market their friend tells them to go into. Or, you know, they just go into whatever market that they're getting recruited into by the agency that they're joining. But every single market has its own set of problems. I'm going to explain like what the difference between a product market and a niche is. So product is basically Just an insurance product. So term life insurance is a product. Right. It's just a made up idea and a made up form of insurance. So it's just, it's simply a product. Right. Whole life insurance is a product. Right. An annuity is a product. A market is a group of people that buy a set of products. Right. So for example, the senior market would buy final expense insurance, they would buy annuities, they would buy Medicare. There's different products that that market would need. Hopefully this is making sense. Another example of a market would be millennials or like younger people that are just buying houses. Those people might need mortgage protection. They might also need health insurance because they're aging out of their parents health insurance. So markets are groups of people. Products are the actual products that you sell them. Now a niche is like a little slice of a market. So for example, a niche we could target within the senior market would be just going after veterans. A niche that you could target within people planning for retirement is people that have 401ks and they're looking at a better alternative. So a niche is just like a way to like find a subset of people inside of a market. Markets are big groups of people. Niches are small slices of that pie. So whenever you're picking the market you're going to sell to, you need to consider that every single market has pros and cons, right? So if you're going to go out and you're going to serve the senior market well, you're going to deal with people that maybe are on lower incomes that aren't as tech savvy. The good thing is if you're selling a product like final expense, it's usually a very easy, simple sale. So the pros are, it's very simple. The cons are you might have higher chargebacks, you might be dealing with people that are less tech savvy. Whereas if you go and you start trying to sell, you know, super advanced market products and doing Iuls and annuities and things like that, you have high commission and your retention is really high. But it's going to take a long, you're going to have a longer sales cycle, which means you have to wait longer to get paid. So study the different markets in insurance. Figure out what problems do you want, what pros do you want, what cons are you willing to accept. And that's how you should decide what market you're gonna sell. So that's all I have to say about that. Now the next thing that you need to do is actually picking an agency and finding a mentor. So the way that I recommend doing this is Basically find your Mr. Miyagi, right? Find the person that you want to study and emulate to basically get all of their processes so you can model what they're doing to do it for yourself. The best way to learn something is copy someone who's already doing it successfully. So pick your agency based off of the person that has the systems, has the experience, and can teach what they already know to you. Now, the next thing you need to understand is the two learning curves of insurance. So here we have the sales learning curve, and here we have the insurance learning curve, okay? So the two learning curves of insurance. If we imagine that your goal is at the end of these learning curves, right? Whatever your goal is, maybe it's 10k month, 20 came on 30k a month, 50k a month, whatever it is that goal is here. In order for you to get to that goal and achieve it, you have to overcome these two learning curves, right? You got to learn how to sell like general sales knowledge, understanding how to sell, tonality.
Discovery, asking the right questions, closing all the little micro skills that come with selling. You have to overcome that learning curve. The other learning curve you have to overcome is the insurance learning curve. So what does that mean? Well, that is basically all the product knowledge, the carriers, these different things that kind of come into play that nobody just naturally knows about the industry. You have to be in the industry and learn from someone that already understands it in order to overcome this, right? Once you overcome these two learning curves, you're gonna hit your goal. But the speed at which you do that depends on the person you choose to learn from. So you wanna pick your agency based off of where you're gonna get the most training, especially, especially as a new agent. The training and mentorship you receive has to be top notch and it has to be killer or you're gonna, you're gonna be in a very bad spot, right? So pick based off of mentorship. Now, the next thing we're going to talk about is foundations. So when you're a new agent, you're going to have a lot of things on your plate. You're going to have a lot of information you're going to need to consume. And if you are not in peak mental and physical shape, you're just not going to have enough energy to consume that information and really be able to apply it and learn it, right? I call this foundations. Right? So, so this is what we call the power pyramid. So ultimately your output is what you're able to do on a day to day basis. So this is.
The dials you're able to make, the amount of information you're able to consume, this is what you get out of each individual day. The fundamental of all of this is sleep. So if you aren't sleeping well, if you aren't prioritizing your sleep, if you're sleeping four hours a night or five hours a night, or you're, you know, looking at your phone before you go to bed the next day, you're not going to be well rested, you're not going to have the energy to be able to fully apply yourself to this new career. So you need to make sure that you're prioritizing your sleep. I know this may sound super woo woo to you. You're like, oh, just tell me the insurance stuff. I cannot stress you enough. The people that prioritize these things see the most success. So the fundamental is sleep. You have to have sleep in order to have energy the next day. The next thing is diet. You want to be eating a clean, healthy diet. Whatever diet works for you is great, but just make sure it's healthy, make sure it's clean. I like a lot of protein that gives me energy, that makes me feel good. Other people like, you know, there's vegetarians and vegans or whatever you are, doesn't matter. Just make sure you're eating a healthy diet. Make sure you're getting exercise right, Walking, exercising. I personally love lifting weights. I'm not a huge fan of cardio, even though I probably, probably should do more of it. Having some form of exercise is going to give you much more focus and energy during the day. And one of the keys that I've learned from studying a lot of very successful people, I'm talking about, you know, nine and ten figure entrepreneurs, people doing hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars. They all prioritize these things. It's more about managing energy than managing time. And this is basically how you get the most energy out of your day. So exercise your environment. This is something I'm really big on right now. I'm in Brazil, so this is not my normal office, but typically I have a very nice office. I have a standing desk with a treadmill. I've basically tweaked my office out and put these different lights in there so that I want to spend all day in the office. Because the more time I spend there, the more time I optimize my environment so that I want to spend more time working, the more work I get. Done. And the more money that I make. So optimize your environment. Make it a place that makes you happy, makes you inspired, and it's somewhere that you want to spend time, Right? That's extremely important, which is why it's on the power pyramid. The next thing is focus. So during the day, don't be checking your phone while you're trying to dial or while you're trying to, you know, learn these different things about insurance. Set your phone in a separate room and just dial in and focus. The more that you can do this, the more you're going to get out of each day, and the more output you're going to have, the faster you're going to master these skills and the faster you're going to get to 10k a month. The last thing is tools. So just a quick reframe, guys. On this pyramid, the most important things are at the bottom. So sleep, diet, exercise, tools are important, but they're the least important. So when I say tools, I mean, like, this is going to sound so minor, but having your mouse speed extremely quick. Like for me, my mouse speed is so fast because I'm trying to get every single last bit of optimization out of everything I'm doing. If I can move and click around my computer faster, I'm going to get more done over the long run than somebody else. Good tools would be like having a good laptop that's quick. So when you're making dials and, you know, clicking on different things as you're going throughout, writing policies or whatever you're doing, your laptop is fast. So invest in tools. Don't overthink this, but anytime that you can buy something that's going to get you that extra edge, the mindset that you want to be in in order to succeed is how can I get every single extra edge? And having the right tools really, really helps you to do that. And if you stack all these things on top of each other, you get maximum output, right? Which is ultimately what we want. So it's all about managing, managing energy and managing those little micro habits throughout, throughout the day that are going to allow you to progress faster. Which is why I put this here before I get into everything else. The foundations of your business start here. It starts with your diet, it starts with your sleep, it starts with exercise and everything else we just covered the next thing, you really want to figure out what your goal is before you start, because insurance is just a vehicle, but your goal is the destination. So if you don't know where you're driving towards I guarantee you, you're not going to get there. You want to figure out what's the end goal? What's the income goal? What do you want your life to look like? You know, how much time are you spending working versus with family? What is the end goal? And then optimize and reverse engineer it to figure out how you can get there. So one of the I recommend all of our agents to do is to create a vision board. So this, for example, is my vision board. I used AI Actually, none of these are real photos. I used AI to put this together. So these are all different moments and things that I want to capture throughout my life. I want to take my debt scuba diving. I want to buy a private jet. I want to have 100,000 subscribers on YouTube. I want to buy a house in Sedona.
This is a moment of me and my business partner smoking a cigar on the back porch. I want to, you know, be able to enjoy and look back on the amazing business that we built while smoking a cigar. I want to have a kid. And this is actually on the bottom right. Funny enough, this is a moment that is coming true right now, which is why it's so important to make a vision board is hanging out and traveling to Brazil with my business partner. So this is. I'll take a photo of this exact moment when it happens later this week. But now I'm in Brazil, and the reason that I'm able to achieve these different things and check off these boxes on my vision board and make it come to reality is because I look at this every day. So I'm constantly reminded of what I'm working towards. So I know where I'm going. And before we dive into all the tactical stuff, which I promise we'll get to in this video, it's so important that you figure out where you're trying to go, because insurance is just the vehicle, but the goal is the destination. So figure out what your goal is. I recommend making a vision board. You don't have to, but I highly recommend it. It's been super valuable for me, so that is that. Okay, the next thing we need to talk about is expectations. So whenever you're getting into the business, recruiters are going to tell you that selling insurance is going to be a straight, easy path to six figures, because their job is to get you into the business, not to set you up for success. Their job is to recruit you in and get as many bodies in the door as possible. So they're going to make it sound easy in reality. What's going to happen is you're going to get in the business and you realize there's all of these obstacles in your way, right? There's all of these obstacles that you have to overcome. And if you come into it with the wrong expectation, you're not going to have the mental strength to get through this. So I want to reframe that. If somebody told you this is going to be easy, it is not. If somebody told you you're just going to get into the business and all of a sudden you're going to stumble upon six figures and your whole life is going to change. It's not unless you work at it. And you're going to have to go through some. You're going to have to go through some suck, right? There's no easy. There's no easy way out. There's no golden ticket. You have to dedicate yourself to this and you have to dedicate yourself not only to the business, but to the process of learning it. So I want to reframe your expectations before we dive into everything. It is not going to be as easy as whoever is telling you it is because they're just trying to bring you into the business. Starting with the first step to actually.
Getting started with selling. And that first step is to buy or find leads. Not buy leads, it's to find leads. So you need to find a lead source. So leads are essentially the lifeblood of your business. This is how you get people to talk to and.
How you funnel people into your business so that you have people to try to sell policies to. So a couple things you guys need to understand about leads. There's downstream effects with leads. Okay, so what does that mean? Well, basically, you see with this picture, there's two different rivers. So a good analogy I always like to tell to kind of drive this point home is let's say you're picking where to choose your house. Okay. On the left side we have this river. Upstream, there's a factory that's polluting into the river. You have people that are, you know, dumping waste into the river, though everything that happens up here is going to flow downstream. So if we build our house here, what are we going to be drinking? What is the water we're going to be drinking? Right. It's going to be polluted water. The same thing goes with leads. So if I am working leads that were that are generated with like bait and switch marketing or it's misleading or we're getting low quality, low intent leads. Like for example, when I got into business I was working something called free Walmart gift card leads. So basically what that is is people would send back a gift card mailer that said send this back for a free Walmart gift card. So I would take this lead, go and knock on their door and try to sell them life insurance, which as you can imagine, they weren't interested in. And so what happened was I would sell policies, but then the people would cancel the policy immediately because they only wanted the gift card. So I was suffering, my business was suffering the downstream effects from low quality leads versus on the other hand, let's say we build our house here, the water is melting off of ice caps. You know, it's pure drinking water straight from a mountain. If I'm working high quality, high caliber leads, I'm going to have a healthy business because the prospects that are coming in are educated, they understand what it's about and they're quality people. Which means that I'm going to have less people canceling their policies, they're going to buy more insurance and they're going to refer more people because of the downstream effect of leads. So you need to understand that whenever you go about finding a lead source is there's two things that really matter when it comes to a quality lead. Willing and able. Right? We need to find people that are willing to buy insurance and able to buy. Okay, willing. And I'm just going to say a, so I don't have to write able, willing and able. They have to be willing and able. So they have to be able to afford it, they have to be able to qualify and they have to be interested in the product. So there's three different ways that you can go about getting leads. You can buy them from a vendor, which I'll talk about the cons of. You can generate them and you can get them for free. Now you may be saying, oh my God, how do I get leads for free? Well, let me explain buy and free and then I'll explain my favorite, which is generate. So buying leads. Again, this is just where you go to a vendor, you buy leads directly from, from a lead vendor. Now the problem with this is there's not as much transparency with how the lead is generated. So usually lead vendors won't show you the actual ad that they're running for the reason that like, like the reason they don't show you the ad is because most of the time it's misleading or it's some kind of a bait and switch marketing. Like the free Walmart gift card example. I just told you guys about so you're going to pay a markup for usually lower quality leads. Free leads are not actually free. And I can say this because I used to, when I first got into the business, I worked for a free lead program and then I started my own free lead program. So with free leads you basically give up some of your comp in exchange for free leads. So I came in at a 50% comp. There's other agencies out there that will give you an 80, 90 or 100 point comp. So you're giving up half of your commission to get the free leads. Problem with a freely program is you basically become kind of an employee of that business because they are providing all of the, all of the leads for you. If you're brand new to the business and you don't have a lot of capital to invest, this can be a great option for you. But if you have some money to invest and you really want to, you really want to build your own business as opposed to being an employee. What I recommend is not buying leads but generating your own or partnering with a marketer to generate them for you. Okay, so this is what we do and we help agents with this is we basically will run ads for them on their own Facebook account. So Facebook, from my experience, is the best way to generate leads for life insurance. They're high quality and they're low cost and you're easily able to get people that are willing and able to buy insurance. Right. So I recommend generating your own leads for depending on the type of insurance that you're selling, you can get leads from anywhere as low as like 4 bucks a lead to on the high end, maybe 20 bucks a lead versus if you were to buy those from a lead vendor, you're going to get lower quality leads and you're going to pay double or even triple that price that I just mentioned. So I recommend generating your own leads. If you're on a low budget. You can also do the free lead program.
But I don't personally recommend buying leads from vendors. I've just seen that go south way too many times. So that is everything in terms of leads on the site. The next thing is learning a sales process. Okay, so a sales process is basically a map or a guide to get from point a beginning of the conversation to the end, which is ultimately closing the deal. So it's a map that's going to show you that process of how you navigate the sale. A lot of people will tell me, I don't need a script, I'm good at sales. The problem with that is it doesn't matter how good at sales you are, you still want to have that recipe. You still want to have that process. Let's say you went to Chick Fil A and Chick Fil A, every single time they make a chicken sandwich, they make it the exact same way. They get the bun, they put the butter, they got the pickles, then they get the chicken breast, the filet, and then they put it on a bun, Right? What if Chick Fil a had no recipe and they just hired people that said, oh, we're good at cooking, we don't need a recipe, we'll just make a bunch of chicken sandwiches? Well, the sandwich would be different every single time. And the reason they're able to scale and have a predictable successful business is because they have systems and they have processes and they have a repeatable process. They do over and over and over. You want the exact same thing with your sales process. If you want to see consistent results, you have to have consistent actions. Which is why you need to have a script or sales process. Not to mention, guys, if you're a brand new agent, this is the easiest way to fast track, fast track success is just copy a script that's already working. Right? Alrighty. So the next thing that you need is to learn a sales process. And basically what this is going to do is you're just going to be able to copy a proven process that you can read off. If you're doing telesales, if you're doing it over zoom like an IUL or annuity sale, then you'll kind of be following like a bulleted outline. But most of you guys probably aren't going to start with that. But a sales process allows you to copy the exact structure of what a successful agent is using and just use it yourself. So you can just steal their entire process and use it starting out. Now let me show you guys what a good script looks like. Okay, so for example, here's our script and it's linked. It's basically broken into different sections, right? So you have like the call intro, the discovery, setting expectations, going into questions. And what's really cool about this group specifically is is linked throughout the script. We have objection overcomes. So this is what I mean when I say like you can just rip off somebody else's sales process. It's already using this, already proven. So here, like if I'm going through the call intro, you know, hey, is blank. Hey, blank. It's just him. I have a request you sent us here about the Life insurance plans. Right. This specific script is for final expense. Getting back to record a line. How's it going? Oh, I'm not interested. All I have to do is go here. I can click on where it says objection overcomes, and I can just click where it says I'm not interested. Yeah, no worries. And I guess when you say you aren't interested, is it because you think it might be unaffordable or because you don't think you can get approved? And so in this script, and with the objection overcomes linked throughout it, I can just read word for word exactly what they say. So, you know, is it unaffordable or because you don't think you get approved? Oh, I think it might not be affordable. Yeah, no worries. I mean, most of the people we work with are on a fixed income. Are you on a fixed income, too? Yes, I am. Perfect. The plans you requested information on are actually designed for people on a fixed income. Right. And so every single thing that you need is written out for you. So when I say you need to use a sales process, it's because you can shortcut the learning curve on the sales side and just copy something that's already proven and just use word tracks that have been battle tested literally thousands of times. So if you guys want access to the script, I'm going to include a link down below in the description where you can get access to the script, as well as a course that will show you how you can generate your own leads, and you can actually get started in that course for the first seven days for completely free. So that's going to be linked down below in the description for you guys to check out. All right, so I have a photo here of a guy dumping an ice bath. I have a photo here of a guy dumping an ice bucket on himself. And the reason I have that is you want to learn the script. When you're a new agent, really study the script. I cannot stress how important it is to master your sales process. Really dial it in and get it perfected. Okay? You want to have your script so down that somebody could break into your house in the middle of the night, pour a cold bucket of ice water on you, jolting you awake, and ask you to recite the script word for word. And you can do it. I'm not kidding when I say that you want to master it so much that you have it down word for word, write the script down, read it out. Like, whatever you need to do to learn it, do that. Okay? It's very, very important. That.
You really have the script by memory because you're going to get shaken up in the sale and you need to be able to come back and get right to where you need to be. So. So the next thing is learning objections, okay? Now, objections are just a natural part of sales. No matter what, even if you have a perfect sell, a perfect process where you go through from start to finish, you hit every single line, you're still going to. You're still bound to get objections. Now, I'm not going to dive super deep into like specific objection overcomes, but I have a whole video here that breaks down how to overcome objections. All right? Once you have the script down and the objections, the whole sales process kind of put together, the next thing you need to do is set activity hygiene standards. So I know what you're thinking. What on earth is an activity hygiene standard, and.
How do I actually do that? So a hygiene standard is different than a goal. So when people set a goal, oh, my goal is, I'm going to do 150 dials a day, or my goal is I'm going to do 300 dials a day with a goal. If you don't hit the goal, it's okay, right? If you don't hit the goal, it's okay. We've all set goals that we didn't hit or didn't hold ourselves to. But a hygiene standard, well, that's different because hygiene is the minimum of what you're willing to do. You always fall to your hygiene standards, not rise to your goals, right? So your hygiene standard, hopefully most of you have, is you brush your teeth every night. You brush your teeth every single night. That is a hygiene standard. You shower at least once every other day. Again, I'm saying this hoping that all of you do this. Maybe there's some of you that shower once a week. But whatever, your hygiene standard is what you'll fall to. So you need to set a hygiene standard, meaning if you don't do this, you will be actually disgusted with yourself. And that is what you need to set. Not a goal. You need to set a hygiene standard. You need to set a hygiene standard related to the activity that you're willing to do. So an example of a hygiene standard would be making a minimum of $300 a day. If that's your hygiene standard. And you don't hit that. Like, you're not going to end the day without brushing your teeth. You're not going to end the day without hitting your hygiene standard. Hopefully this is making sense to you guys. Right now with the activity, with actually calling and setting appointments or calling and going from one call closes, you need to be using a dialer and a CRM. Okay? So the dialer is basically going to increase the answer rate so that you can get in contact with more leads and your CRM is going to help you organize all of your leads so that you can contact them easier and basically keep a, keep a follow up pipeline, right? And it's very important that you guys focus on activity and inputs as opposed to how many sales do I get in the very beginning you want to focus on how much effort am I putting in, how many dials did I make and how can I improve the inputs that I'm doing? Not, oh, I didn't make any sales for my first week. I didn't make any sales my first day. Focus on the activity and focus on the inputs and what will happen is you'll start to get better and better and better and the results will come if you just give it time. So focus on the activity, focus on the inputs and set hygiene standards, not goals. Amazing. Now the next thing is learning the follow up game. So the money in sales and the money in insurance especially is in the follow up, right? You want to basically become this person. So when a lead enters your pipeline, when you generate a lead, you never let them go. Okay, you have texts and emails, which is how like that. The way that we set up our personal CRM is we have texts and emails that drip on people continuously like forever. So they're never not being followed up with. We constantly are hitting them up over and over and over. They're staying in our pipeline. Like I've made sales to leads that I've generated years ago. I've made sales on leads from 2015. Okay. That is the way that you are the most profitable is if you master the follow up game. And the way that you do that is by having a CRM that allows you to easily keep track of all of your leads. Okay. And if you guys want access to a CRM, I'm going to have a link down below in the description where you can get ours. We have like all of the automations pre built out for you so you can just copy the way that we have it, have it structured. That's a really, really good way to follow up. But it's very critical that you master the follow up game. That is where all of the money is in insurance. The next thing is just letting time play out. So once you have those steps that we talked about earlier the last thing you need to do is focus on the activity. This is the inputs, commit to the process. So you do the inputs, right? Then you go and do the process, you're going to get some type of result. So for example, let's say day one, you go out, you make 200 dials, you're going to get some type of result. Maybe you get couple people that hang up on you, a couple people to book an appointment, you're going to get some kind of result and then you need to look at that result, analyze what you did. So listen to your call recordings, go over training with a mentor, send your, your mentor your call recordings and you're going to get feedback. Then you're going to take that feedback and then the next day you're going to do activity again, you're going to have more inputs and then you're going to get more results, you're going to get feedback on those results and you literally just repeat this process over and over and over again.
