If You Can Close Me, You Get 500 Leads…

Julian runs a live contest where agents compete to close him on burial insurance calls for 500 leads. He critiques each pitch on authority, framing, and emotional hooks, pointing out how phrases like 'don't want to waste your time' kill your status as a salesperson.

Today we're giving away 500 second chance leads to whoever can pitch me and close me on the phone today.
Hey, what's going on? It's Julian. I know you submitted your phone number, Adam. This was for the free lead giveaway. Go ahead and lay it on me, man. Close me on a policy.
All right? So let's role play this. So, hi. This Julian?
Yeah, this is Julian. Who's this?
Hey, Julian, this is Adam. How are you doing today?
I'm doing okay, Adam. How can I help you?
I'll make this short and sweet. So I was just giving you a call because I just received your request on Facebook. Looks like you were looking to get something for final expense. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, you're looking for something on to take care of your kids. Heaven forbid something happens, right?
Yeah, I was looking to take care of Chelsea and Willie.
Perfect. Now do you already have something in place and you're just looking to add something for Chelsea and Willie or is this something brand new to make sure that they're taken care of?
I don't have anything currently. I was just kind of shopping around, wanted to see what this kind of thing would cost, to be honest.
Got it.
Okay. I'll be the one to take care of that for you today. Now, I'll give you you kind of a brief idea of what the process looks like. And after we kind of go through that process, we'll look at a couple quotes to see what you may qualify for. And if I can help you qualify, we'll kind of see what fits in the budget and take care of an application over the phone. Fair enough?
Yeah, that sounds fair enough.
Awesome. Okay.
I like that you introduced the call by saying, hey, is, you know, fully on there and whatnot. It's like, go to intro for me as well. The only thing that I would kind of change a little bit. It was kind of pitchy. Right. And so I really like that you assume you're like, yeah, I'm actually going to be the one to help you with that. Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. I'm making myself seem as a high value individual, right? I have a higher status. I'm not begging them for business. I'm letting them know that I just had a second to get back to them. And so most important thing, especially when you're selling a promise, which is what we're doing, we're selling them something that is an emotional tie. And so I'm going to get straight into the what, which is the qualifying questions. And then from There I'm going to tie in the emotions of the kids and the this, and I'm going to paint them the whole picture of everything. But overall, dude, I mean, great stuff. Let's see what Sebastian Diaz has to say today. Sebastian, if you want to just dive straight in, man, I'm a finalist. Expense lead. I just came in. I haven't heard from you. I don't know anything. I'm just waiting to be sold.
All right?
So.
Yeah. Ring, ring.
Hey.
Hey, is this Julian?
Yeah, this is Julian. Hey.
Hey, Julian, this is Sebastian. Real quick, I just wanted to get back with you here in regards to the request that you filled out for the burial programs. You listed down your high school mascot as the. As the Vikings.
Is that.
Do you remember filling that out?
Yeah, I remember filling that out.
Okay, awesome. Well, I just wanted to reach out.
And help you out.
Hopefully not take too much of your time here. But tell me, were you looking to just leave something for the family? Were you looking at just covering burial expenses?
Just. It depends on the price. You know, just shopping around. Talked to a few guys already, but they were pedaling snake oil, so I didn't really want to deal with them.
I got it, man.
Got it.
Well, no snake oil here. I want to make sure that we can, you know, hopefully try to find what's going to be the best option out there for you, what you qualify for. Now, let me ask you, do you have anything in place right now?
No, I do not. Okay.
Well, Julian, the way this works is pretty simple. I'm actually an underwriter for the state of Florida. My job is to go ahead and let you know exactly what options you qualify for. You know, that's going to be based off your age and your health. We're going to shop. I've got over 35 different carriers for your state, the largest carriers in the state that we can see which company you can actually qualify for and who's going to give you the very best rate. Does that all make sense?
Yeah, that makes sense.
Awesome. Well, everything is non medical. There's no needle, there's no blood work. You know, I'm actually able to get you all the information over the phone. Does that sound okay?
Yeah. Awesome.
So to see what options I've got available for you, I just have to go over some of the medical questions just to make sure that we, you know, we can find what's going to be right for you.
Good freaking stuff, man. Other than, like, what you got going on, super great. The only things that I would change is to say, I don't want to waste too much of your time. I would take that out because you're an authoritative figure. Right. When I, like, apologize or I, you know, make a notion that their time is more valuable than mine. Now I'm losing authority and status in the conversation, which then is going to increase sales resistance and is going to make it a little bit harder for me to get the deal. The only thing that I would change on the intro is instead of saying, hey, is this Julian? I would just pretend that you know me.
Hello? Hello, is this Ms. Ashley?
Yes.
Perfect.
Let's run it.
Okay. Ring, ring.
Hello?
Hey, is John there?
Yeah, this is John.
Hey, John, this is Ashley. Real quick, I'm just getting back to you in regards to a request you have submitted for some information on our final expense burial programs. You had listed your date of birth as 1111 and your high school mascot as the Longhorns. Is that correct?
That is correct.
Okay, now we're looking for yourself or for another family member as well?
Just myself today.
Okay, awesome. Now the way this works is real simple. My job is just to let you know, number one, which may qualify for based off your age and your health, and two, just to shop around for you with over 30 of the top A rated carriers here in Texas. Does that sound good?
Yeah.
Okay. And just so you know, all these programs are non medical. So no doctors are coming out to your house poking with needles and making you pee in a cup.
My favorite. I hate pinging cups.
Right, right. So just real quick here to see what options are available for you. Are you a smoker or non smoker?
Good stuff. That's. That's exactly where we needed to get to. You got their fast, which I freaking love. I really like how you get straight to the point. I would maybe just not talk so much about like the A rated companies and stuff and maybe avoid the medical stuff because like, again, as soon as, as soon as it comes down to like, medical and this and that, it's like I start to get spooked. When it's that early in the call, it's going to trigger some sal resistance. All right, guys, we've got one more person to call. Hello? Hey, what's going on? It's Julian. How are you?
Hey, how's it going? This is Dominique Wilson. Hey, Julio. This is Dominique. First off, I want to thank you for taking my call. I've got your request here for the life insurance and I just needed to confirm a few details. First off, how's your day?
It's been going good.
You?
I'm going very well. Thanks for asking. So, Julio, before we dive into that, I like to put the cart before the horse.
What.
What prompted you to fill that out?
My brother died a year, and I wasn't ready to talk about it until recently, but I know it's something I need.
Gotcha. I'm. I'm really sorry to hear that.
Thank you.
Was it.
Was it sudden, or did it.
Was it something you kind of.
Was he sick? Pretty sudden. He just had a heart attack. I honestly. His diet was horrible, and he was really overweight, so I think it just got caught up with him, you know?
Gotcha.
Gotcha.
Was he married or any kids or anything?
No, luckily, I think he was married to Soda and tv.
Gotcha. Julio, I know that you filled in a few pieces of information. It's always just easier for me to kind of confirm with you. Horse's mouth.
What.
What state are you in?
I'm in Arizona.
What's your date of birth? I want to confirm your age.
1965. December 3rd.
December 3rd, 1965. Okay, perfect. I appreciate that. Do you currently have anything in place? Any coverage at all?
Nope. No coverage this way.
Okay, perfect. And what would you say has been the biggest thing kind of holding you back?
I haven't talked to anybody about it yet, but just leading up to this, it's just a conversation that I wasn't really, like, in the mood, I guess, to have yet, and so now I'm ready for it, you know?
Have you given any thoughts whether you're leaning more towards a cremation, keeping it simple, or a barrier?
Probably go for a cremation, to be honest.
Any service to go with that?
Whatever the cheapest option is.
I gotcha. Okay. And I know about you. I understand a little bit about your brother. Tell me about your family.
Married?
Any kids?
No. I'm like my brother. Soda and the tv.
Are you the last remaining sibling or you have other siblings?
Just me.
Something happened to you. I always say somebody's got to go down to the coroner's office of the hospital and claim the body and all that stuff. Who's that person for you?
My goddaughter.
I know you right now, you don't have anything set up. If something happened to you today, how. How would she kind of handle that? That expense of the funeral services?
I mean, right now, it would just have to come out of, like, my retirement account and stuff. But the. The biggest thing I'm worried about is, like, you know, if somebody were to lay a Claim to my estate or. My biggest concern is just that she won't be able to get the money immediately. And I've also got a house. I've almost paid it off, but, like, just in the event that I were to die soon, I wouldn't want to, you know, leave her with that mortgage or anything.
Completely. I understand. So I know you mentioned your goddaughter. She of age, though. She's not like a minor or anything.
No, she's. She's 23.
Okay, perfect. So. So, Julio, I'm looking to be your agent, right? I'm not going anywhere. I've been doing this for better part of a decade. So that means when you call me three, five, ten years from now, right, I'm still gonna be the same guy answering the phone with the same number. My other clients can attest to that. Is it fair to say if we were able to take that burden off, where you could go to sleep tonight not having to about how that cremation is going to be paid for, knowing that your goddaughter's not going to have to try to rush and sell the house or she's sitting with everything locked up in probate. Would you sleep a little better tonight?
Yeah, I think so.
Okay, perfect. So I've got your date of birth here. Makes you 57, 1965. What's your height and your.
Dude, freaking killer, man. Only things I would change is I wouldn't say I'm looking to be your agent. I would say I'm going to be your agent, by the way, moving forward, like, I'm going to be your agent. Then that way they understand, like, there's no other opt. You're not talking with anybody else. I don't even allow that, so. And then on top of that, I wouldn't thank people to answer for answering your call again. It's. It's about maintaining status. You should be thanking me for calling. I'm about to sign you up on the. On the insurance policy of your life. You're not gonna find this anywhere else. Wow. Everybody. So that. That's gonna wrap up today's call. Tim's always begging for me to do a call. Okay, cool, cool. Everybody. So everybody wants me to give a ring. The Adam Jelisic says, give me a ring.
Hello? Adam, what's up, dude? It's Julian. So.
Ring, ring.
Hello?
Hey, is Adam there?
Yeah, who's this?
Adam, what's going on? It's Julian.
Julian? Do I know you?
Yeah, it's Julian. You. I was getting back to you about that request that you sent in for the final expense program. You said that your high school mascot was a pirate. Does that ring a bell?
Yeah, I remember filling something out. I think I was just kind of plugging stuff in.
Gotcha, man.
I was gonna get a call.
No, no worries. I actually like to reach out to everybody personally because, you know, that's. That's what it comes down to at the end of the day is just making sure that you're able to get something in place, see if you even qualify for any of these programs, man. So basically, the way that it works is that I've just got to ask you a couple questions real quick to see if you even qualify. And if you do, I'll go over that with you. And if not, then, you know, at least we made a friend. Sound fair enough?
Fair enough.
Sweet, man. And I'll go straight to the health questions. I don't try to mince words, hang out, do anything. I go straight to health questions. If they're not a qualified buyer, I'm hopping off the phone as soon as human possible. If they are qualified, then I'll start pitching them. All right, guys. Well, we've got the votes in. Tied for third place, Sebastian and Adam is at one vote each. For second place, voted by the people, we've got Dominique. And for first place, we've got Ashley. For now, I'm gonna hop off here. I hope you guys have a great day. Go write some business. Don't work those leads. Get away from the sketchy lead vendors and the IMO's, and let's build your business and achieve insurance agent freedom. See you in the next one.
Peace.
