Short excerpt from a Tim Bell YouTube video ("funding your deals 4", March 19, 2024) in which the speaker introduces crowdfunding as an option for financing real-estate investment businesses, noting that general platforms (GoFundMe, Kickstarter) won't serve this use but specialized platforms (realtyshares.com, patchofland.com) will. The speaker reports secondhand student success with these platforms but says he has not personally used them.

Now, the next thing that we're going to talk about here is crowdfunding. Now, crowdfunding is something that's kind of new. If you're a younger person, you're probably familiar with things like GoFundMe and Indiegogo and Kickstarter and some of those other online funding sites for business ideas. Now, those folks will not fund your real estate investment business. However, there are crowdfunding places that will fund your real estate investment business. Now, I personally have never used them, but I have one student who's used realtyshares.com and I have another student who's used the patchofland.com so Patch of Land. You can see these people have a similar look on their website. On the left side we have invest. It says they can earn as much as 12%, as little as 12 months. And then on the other side, there's borrow. On the right side, there's borrow. You get funded in as little as seven days. So again, basically, what these folks do is they have people who want to loan money and people who want to borrow money, and then they put those people together. Again, I personally have never used them, but I have students that have used these and had good success, good results with these particular websites. So you may want to consider that that's crowdfunding.
