Bifidobacterium is the strain you want dominating your baby's gut, while Lactobacillus helps with symptoms like eczema or colic but won't stick around. A gut test tells you if your baby actually needs probiotics and for how long.

Here's how to really find out what probiotics your baby needs, if they even need any at all. There are multiple different types of probiotics, but for now let's focus on the two most common types we recommend here at Tiny Health. The first are Bifidobacterium. These are ideal bacteria to dominate the baby gut, so if your baby is low in these, a probiotic can quickly turn things around. The second type are ones with Lactobacillus. These are best for addressing symptoms for conditions like eczema or colic, but Lactobacilli don't colonize in the gut that much. Now, the only way to see if your baby needs a probiotic or should continue taking a probiotic is with a gut test. Using an ineffective probiotic or using a good probiotic for too long also isn't ideal. And that's why we created the first baby microbiome test to give parents precise supplement recommendations and action plan.
