Earl Nightingale defined success as the progressive realization of a worthy ideal. Pick a goal, work on it consistently, improve your skills, and stay focused. Most people fail because they avoid effort or let self-doubt stop them.

You know, success is simple. I really love Earl Nightingale's definition of success where he says, "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal." It's a lot simpler than most people make it out to be. Focus on what you want to accomplish. Set a goal for yourself. Think about that goal and work on it on a regular basis. Improve your skills and keep your eye on the target. You will achieve the results you're going for. But it's as soon as we start to have negative thoughts, we start to doubt ourselves, and we stop working on our worthy ideal, that is when we become failures. We quit and give up. It's simple, but most people want to make it harder on themselves than it truly is, and most people don't want to put in the work, which is better for you since you're willing to do the work. You're going to start to exced those people around you who aren't. I wish you much success in the pursuit of your goals.
