In this motivational video recorded in Scottsdale, Arizona, the speaker introduces a personal reflection exercise inspired by two books: The Awakened Brain by Dr. Lisa Miller and Flourish by Daniel Coyle. Dr. Miller’s research links spirituality to brain function, showing that spiritual practices can increase resilience and protect against depression. Coyle references Miller’s work while discussing the two key factors that enable individuals and communities to thrive. Building on these ideas, the speaker guides listeners through a brief meditative visualization: participants sit quietly, close their eyes, and imagine a table surrounded by “cheerleaders” – people who love and support them, whether still present or no longer alive. The exercise encourages participants to feel the love and backing of these supporters, then carry that feeling into the day, using the mental image as a tool to counter negative thoughts or low moods. The video ends with an invitation to try the practice throughout the week as a personal “moment of yes,” fostering optimism and emotional strength.

Good morning, everyone. Here is your moment of yes for Monday, September 28th, the last Monday of September. Happy autumn to everyone. October, it's here, just about. It's here. Greetings from Scottsdale, Arizona. Look, there's a Topgolf right there. Yeah, exciting. All right, hey, your moment of yes for today. So I'm finishing one book and I kind of started another book. A little overlap book action going on. The first one's called The Awakened Brain by Dr. Lisa Miller. I think I've referenced it. The second one is Flourish by Daniel Coyle. Dr. Miller basically identified through her science and therapist therapy practice, but working with scientists, that we are wired for spirituality and what is going on in our brain when we practice spirituality and how actually spirituality helps us in dealing with depression, avoiding depression and dealing with depression and our resilience to it. Pretty powerful stuff. And Daniel Coyle, Flourish, references Dr. Miller in his book, which I found fascinating about how— so kind of what are the 2 most important factors for communities and people that flourish? References Dr. Miller. All of that to say is that in the book, which Daniel Coyle references in his book, she has some practices or techniques that she has used to help people kind of tap into the awakened brain. And so I thought it'd be cool to share one with you, and maybe we could all do it today or this week as a fun exercise. So it really is, it's sort of a personal reflection, sort of meditative exercise. And what you're encouraged to do is to obviously have some privacy, but sit, be quiet, be still, and close your eyes. And, you know, just get calm, find that stillness, find that pause. And while you're in that sweet space is to start to think about different people in your life who are your cheerleaders. You know, even if they're not with us anymore, but they were your cheerleaders or are your cheerleaders. They're the people that support you, cheer you on. They have their back. They have your back. They love you. And so picture you sitting at a table, and as you look around the table, you see all these people who are at the table, and you know that they're the ones that they love you. They have your back. So as your eyes are closed and you're just still and you're looking around the table, you're looking at all these people looking back at you and they have your back. And just sit there and feel it and see them and feel them telling you how much they love you, how much they support you, and how much they have your back. And just take some time. To feel that, notice it, absorb it. And then when you're ready, feeling loved, you can move on. And as you go through the rest of the day, if ever you feel yourself kind of hitting a bad spot, a funk, some negativity, anything, just think back to your table. Think back to that crew. Think back to how They reminded you how much they love you and how they have your back. So let's all give that a shot this week and have that be your moment of yes. Have an awesome week, everyone.
