This is a YouTube video titled "10 YouTube strategy MYTHS online business owners believe 🤦♀️" created in May 2023. The content is a detailed solo presentation by a female speaker who shares common misconceptions about using YouTube for business growth, lead generation, and sales. She provides practical advice on video SEO, audience targeting, video length, equipment needs, editing, and content strategy, aimed at online business owners and course creators. The video also promotes her training programs and resources for improving YouTube content creation and marketing effectiveness.
I'm going to be sharing with you 10 myths that you've got to stop believing if you want to use YouTube to generate more leads, more traffic and more sales to your business. Otherwise, you can continue listening to bad advice and wasting your time on things that are going to make zero difference whether you do them or not. Ready to start focusing on the right things on YouTube to grow your business? Make sure you hit that like button and let's get started. Now, if you are actually serious about using YouTube to grow your email list, grow your audience, and generate leads and sales around the clock, then sign up to watch my free training that I have available for you where I will teach you the exact process for how to get more email subscribers and sales from YouTube in less than two hours a week. Go to trina little.com forward/training to grab your seat in this training now and later in this video, I'm going to share with you how three of my clients were able to see results from YouTube immediately without focusing on the wrong tactics. And if you're sitting here wondering, I don't know if YouTube is the right place for me to spend time creating content, I just recently published a video walking through all the reasons why if you are an online business owner, you need to have a YouTube channel like yesterday. You can check out that full video after you watch this one by going to my description box below and clicking the link for that video. Now let's jump into this first myth that I want to jump into into immediately. And boy does this one drive me nuts. And that is SEO is end all be all of success here on YouTube. Now when I talk to somebody about YouTube, they know nothing about YouTube. They immediately think SEO search engine optimization and they think about Google, which it is great that Google owns YouTube and your videos can show up on Google, but these are two different search engines and they work a little bit differently. People engage and search things on Google and the whole purpose of Google is to get people off of Google, right? They want you to find what you're looking for and leave Google. Whereas YouTube, they want you to find what you're looking for and stay on YouTube. They're not trying to get you off of YouTube. So for that purpose alone, that's why you need to think about YouTube differently than Google. Because Google's main purpose is to get you off of Google to where you need to go, whereas YouTube is focused on keeping you on the platform as long as possible. So when you hear you need this perfect tag strategy or you need to put the Right. Keywords in certain places. That is not how YouTube works today. These things assist. And YouTube still asks for tags. But YouTube spends such a minimal amount of time basically scanning your video and looking at the tags to determine where it's going to go. Instead, YouTube's looking at other important factors that are going to keep people on YouTube. Like, is your title in your thumbnail causing people to click on it? So if they put your video in front of people, are people going to click on it and stay on YouTube? Is your video good? Right. How long are people watching your video if it's not good? And people, you know, watch 10 seconds of your video and leave, that's not good for YouTube. Uh, does your video get people to watch more videos? So if people watch your video and then they watch 10 more bonus points for you because you kept people on YouTube longer. And so I want to bust this myth right now that SEO is the key to success on YouTube, because it is not. Which basically leads me into this second myth is you need to have your keyword or your SEO words in the title of your video. And this is not true, because you can have a video about anything and not have it in the title. So let's say, for example, you have a video on how to create a customized squarespace site. You may not even have squarespace in the title of that video, but it could show up for people searching about squarespace sites, how it's based on how people are engaging with your video. And actually, when you upload a video, YouTube knows what you're saying. Okay, you could put squarespace nowhere in that video text, like your description box, your tags, your title. But YouTube knows if you're saying squarespace in your video, what your video is about. So instead of trying to cram in how to create a squarespace website, which looks boring as heck to watch, you need to be thinking about how can you create titles that are going to encourage your audience to click on that video? Because, again, if you watched last week's video where I talk about the importance of knowing who your audience is going to be on YouTube, you can craft your title for your audience. So let's look at an example. I had a client of mine inside of my program Video Strategy Academy list titles she was thinking about for a video she listed the mindset shifts between reasons and excuses. Or is your obstacle a reason or an excuse? This tells me nothing about this video being for me. Could this be for athletes? Could this be for moms? Could this be for entrepreneurs? Could this be for executives? Right. We really want to think about our titles in a headline format that is going to be basically a billboard for our audience to know that video is for me, I'm going to click on it. Because the more of the right people you get to click on that video, the video that that was created for, the more YouTube can find more of those people. Thus your content being put in front of more of the right people that are going to watch it. The more people that watch it, the more YouTube is going to push your content. Right. So instead of thinking about shoving as many keywords and tags and whatever you're calling them into your title, you want to think about, how can I create this title in a way that audience will want to click on it because they will know it's from you. So, for example, a tweak that I would make to is your obstacle a reason or an excuse? For me, I speak specifically to online business owners that have online courses and digital products. I may reframe this title to is your obstacle with your next launch a reason or an excuse? Or I may tweak it even more and say, is your obstacle for your next online course launch a reason or an excuse? This isn't a video for everybody. This is a video for my specific target audience, online course creators. They know it's for them. They click on it. And YouTube finds more people like that. Oh, and one more myth I just want to throw in here on the side. Is it important that you say your exact keyword or your exact tag that you want to rank for in your video as many times as possible? No. All right. The next myth is that you should just post videos on whatever you want. No, you want to post videos for your target audience. And I want to dive a little bit more specifically into examples here. But you need to understand your audience so that they want to come back and watch your video and the next video and the next video and the next video. But if you post a video, for example, myself, I post a video about launching an online course specifically for who I'm talking to online business owners launching and selling courses. If I then post a video about day in the life cleaning out my garage, and some of my audience may watch it, but the people that came to my channel because they knew I specialize in talking about online course creators are going to be like, what the heck is this? And on the other side, people that happen to find this video about me organizing my garage made them see my business content saying, what the heck is this channel about? Not only does it Confuse my audience then, but it confuses the algorithm. The algorithm is like, is this channel more for the organization people or is this channel more for the business people? And when I put a video in front of these people, they don't click on it. And it just confuses the algorithm to figure out who your content is best for if you don't know who you're creating content for. Now that being said, I speak to online business owners. I talk a lot about using YouTube as a lead generator. Does that mean I can only ever talk about YouTube? Absolutely not. Think about the other types of content that your audience would be interested in. So again, I could talk about hiring, I could talk about planning my day, I could talk about software that I use. So you really don't necessarily get stuck in this specific niche topic, but you want to think about your niche target audience and what kind of topics they want to hear you talk about. The best place to figure this out is if you have enough data. You, you can go into your analytics and look at what other types of channels or what other types of videos your audience is watching. You could also use a tool like Vidiq to look at similar topics that your audience would be looking for. And you could just ask your audience what are some content or what are some videos you would like to see from me. But you just don't want to confuse the algorithm in who you're creating content for. Otherwise the algorithm can't find those people. All right, this is one I get a lot and longer videos on YouTube does not mean your video is going to perform better. In fact, I get the question all the time, how long should my video be? And for some reason people think 10 minutes is like this special number, but in reality I think it's the eight minute mark that you can start adding mid video ads which can increase the amount of money you make from AdSense here on YouTube. But there is no special length that your video needs to be to see success on YouTube. I talked a little bit earlier in the whole SEO soapbox moments that you need to get people to watch your entire video. So you could create a five minute video and people watch that entire video and your audience retention is great. YouTube is going to look at that five minute video and say, oh, people are watching this, let's put it out to more people. Because somebody may have created a 20 minute video and people are only watching two and a half minutes on app average of that video. Your five minute video that people are watching the full five minutes of is way more valuable to YouTube than the 20 minute video people on average are only watching two and a half minutes of. So myth busted. Longer videos are not more successful on YouTube. The next one is that you need thousands of subscribers to make any kind ofmoney on YouTube. Now again, if you've been following what I've been saying about truly understanding who you're creating content for and you create that content for those people and they find it here on YouTube, they're going to be more likely to want to learn more from you, want to buy a course from you, want to work with you one on one. Because the money isn't in the YouTube platform. You are not going to get rich on Adsense. Absolutely. There are ways to make extra money here on YouTube and it's an extra bonus revenue, another stream of income. We recently just had a client double the amount of money she's making here on YouTube AdSense that she is completely bypassing that and her membership offers that she has for her students. The same thing with a student of my Jane from Video Strategy Academy. She has around a thousand subscribers and she can contribute $10,000 of revenue specifically from her YouTube channel, as in people finding her content on YouTube and then working with her one on one. So you absolutely do not need thousands of subscribers on YouTube to start making money immediately or generating more leads or generating more clients or sales in your business immediately. Now, before I share the next five set of myths that I'm totally going to bust for you, I want you to know I've been doing this whole YouTube strategy YouTube lead generation for my business for eight years now and I've worked with hundreds of online business owners, many of them multi six and seven figure business owners. They've all got started and got consistent on YouTube because of the process that I have taught them and the process I've been using for eight years. I've actually put everything that you need to get started with a video content plan here on YouTube, including a YouTube script template including your workflow. So knowing exactly all the steps you need to do from video ideation to uploading and optimizing properly on YouTube as well as all the equipment set up and how to do that. And additionally a 12 week YouTube content plan for you already done with title ideas, hook ideas, thumbnail suggestions and calls to action, you can get this all for just $37 inside my program going video. Just go to trina little.com forward/going video. You can get instant access to everything that I mentioned so you can get started creating video content in a streamlined simple, easy way that's already set up for you. The next myth that just baffles me and why people believe this is that they need a super fancy setup or equipment before they can even do YouTube or that they need that all to be successful. I mean, you can see back there, I have a super fancy camera. I spent close to a thousand dollars on it because it was the camera and the YouTube lens and. And I freaking hated it. It was such a pain to use. I was out of focus. It drove me nuts. And so I just have a simple point and shoot camera. It's a Sony ZV1 and I can just put it on a quick tripod. I have a rode shotgun mini mic that plugs right into it and that's all I use for my YouTube videos. I don't get any fancier than that. Authenticity and realness is what you want to lead with. I mean, why has TikTok taken off and so many of those creators are using their phone and their camera could have used a little clean off because it's a little smudgy, but it makes it feel real. It makes us have a connection with these people and feel like they're one of us. And so not needing to worry about filming on a sound studio or having a special place in your house. Just set up somewhere, clean the mess up around you because I'm going to show you behind the scenes here real quick. I just clean up my mess behind the camera so you can't even see what's going on here. You just need this little space right here. Your audience just needs to be able to hear from you. They need to have decent audio that's not super distracting and decent lighting. And by decent lighting, I mean shooting in front of a window and not having a window or your light source behind you. Because if I were to take this camera, I have a window over here, and I were to shoot this way, not as good, right? My camera obviously auto corrects, but you saw how dark it got there when we moved. But if I just allow the light to be to the side of me or to the front of me, it makes it look better. And that's all you really need to do. You just need to think about where your light is coming from and how you are getting good audio for your audience and that is it. Editing. A huge myth that I see so many people believe is that they need this super fancy high level video editing for their video to be successful. No, I mean video editing does level up your videos and it does keep people's eyes engaged a little bit more. But it's not required to have success on YouTube. If you have really great content that is super dialed in to what your audience finds valuable, they're going to watch. It doesn't matter if you have all the super fancy graphics or all the super fancy gifs or whatever you want to add to it. It's all about the quality of the content and how helpful it actually is to your audience. I will say the biggest mistake so many people run into when it comes to editing is that when they film, they have so much raw content, right? It took them so long to film a video and so it's going to take them twice as long to edit it. So if it took you an hour to shoot a video and it ultimately is 10 to 15 minutes, it's going to take you two or three hours to edit it. That's why in my program Going Video, I talk about the importance of having a video game plan before you even get started shooting. So that when you are shooting one video takes you 20 to 30 minutes to film. And so then you only have 20 to 30 minutes to edit. So that would take you roughly an hour or an hour and a half to edit. So again, if you want to speed up your editing process and not be such a headache, definitely get going video@trinalittle.com forward/going video because it's only $37 and it was going to save you so much time on editing. Let's keep busting these myths and this next one is that you can use YouTube as a dumping ground for any of your content. Just repurpose it over on YouTube. No. If you are dumping podcasts over on YouTube and you're not using the proper structure for YouTube content, it's going to do nothing for you. It's literally going to waste your time to upload that podcast. You need to ensure when you're creating content for YouTube. I think I've said this quite a few times in this video that it needs to be structured for titles that people are going to click on, that you have those thumbnails that people are going to click on. You're not really thinking about that when you're doing a podcast episode, right? That's not how people are clicking on and engaging in a podcast platform. But on YouTube, you think about your content as a marketing package. That title on that thumbnail has really got to stand out when it's thrown up against all these other videos. And so if you aren't creating with the mind of YouTube first, no content is ever really going to see success on YouTube if it's not thinking about YouTube first. Next is that you need lots of subscribers and lots of views for YouTube to push your content to more people. As in, like, you need to be a big channel for YouTube to promote you. No, absolutely not. You can literally make money off of your very first video. And as online business owners, you probably already have some platform started somewhere. Whether you have, you know, a small following on Instagram or Facebook, or you have an email list already, you can really utilize the platform that you already have, get those people over to YouTube, and that's going to speed up the process of YouTube figuring out who your audience is. In fact, we did this with one of our clients. We started her channel from absolutely scratch. And by her utilizing her already built in audience, within 90 days, we were able to grow her over 10,000 subscribers and get her over 300,000 views because she shared it with her current audience. They watched YouTube, could understand who was likely to watch these videos and then send it to even more people. And in fact, now just under a year of working with her, she's over 18,000 subscribers and we literally started with her at zero. All right, this myth is going to be a hard one for you guys because we're pushed this a lot and there is no one YouTube formula or YouTube secret that is going to make you successful on YouTube. I said it. The thing is, YouTube takes work. So does everything in life, right? And just following a formula and slapping videos up there, not really looking at your analytics or looking at how your content is performing, or checking with your audience to see what kind of content that they're liking, your YouTube channel isn't going to see success. You have to put actual work in it. If YouTube was easy by following a certain secret or a certain formula, everybody would do it. Am I right? But it takes all of these pieces and, and it takes understanding what's working on your channel and what isn't and figuring that out and continuing to move forward. It takes showing up time and time again to get better at your tech, to get better at your camera presence, to get better at your video editing, to get better at your thumbnail and title strategy, to improve your overall channel performance. It doesn't happen overnight, and a special recipe just isn't going to get you there. But not giving up and creating video after video after video, speeding up your process, learning more about your process, getting better at the process will lead to not only results on YouTube, but an increase in traffic to your offers more offers sold more clients wanting to work with you.
