With social media at our fingertips, it's really made starting a business a heck of a lot easier than it ever used to be before. Basically now you don't need the massive startup costs or the investment of getting a business going. You can literally just start a YouTube channel or an Instagram account. But you still need to make some money. So I want to share with you five realistic ways you can start making money using social media. And not only am I going to share the five ways, but I'm also going to break it down into pros and cons for each so that you can decide which one or which options would be best for you. If you're ready to start making an extra $1,000 this month, hit that like button and let's dig in. Hey there. Welcome back. My name is Trena. If you are brand new here and on this channel, I help you plan, organize and create content that not only makes you money, but helps you get traffic to your offers. And I know you're ready to make the money. So let's just jump right into this one. The first way you can start using social media to make money is by offering one on one services. Thanks to the Internet. Thanks to social media, you're not confined to your local area. So you could literally live in a small town and be able to work with people across the world with something you specialize in. I truly believe when you're getting started with your business, you have to start with one on one services. We're going to talk about some other ways to make money on social media, but I do believe your first step needs to be in this one on one service capacity. By having a one on one service with a client, not only are you better understanding what their pain points are and how you can help them work through that, but when we're thinking about creating a course or creating digital products, you'll know what to focus on to really help those students or those customers out in the future. Plus, by working with one on one clients, not only are you going to get case studies, but you're going to get testimonials as well to really highlight your authority and to prove people that you know what you're talking about. Like I said though, this has got to be your first stop in building a business. We can't jump to brand deals, we can't jump to creating a course. I truly, truly believe one on one circle is where you need to start. And I still offer one on one services. Don't think like course creation is the way to go. Passive income is the way to go. People still need help, people still need services, and this is a great opportunity for you to start making money on social media. A couple examples of what you could do for one on one services, obviously you could always freelance. Can you help somebody schedule social media posts? Can you help somebody respond to their emails? Can you help somebody edit videos? Or what is it something that you can do? Maybe you're not the best at it, maybe you're not a professional, right? But you can do it. People need help, business owners need help with this kind of stuff. Or maybe you really like styling people and you want to create a course someday to help people feel better in the clothes that they wear. So I recommend finding people online that want help styling. I could totally use that, Tell me what I should wear to look my best, right? And as you work with clients one on one, like I said, you're starting to understand their pain points. What are the same things you're seeing each of them trip up on, and then you can really start systemizing it and make a better course. Plus, those people that you work with, one on one, if you really do help them, they're going to want to share about you as well. So it just really helps you start to reach more people. Let's talk about the pros and cons of one on one services. One on one services do give you a sense of stability. Meaning if you send a contract that requires them to commit three, three months to you, you know you're going to have that client probably for three months and you're not worried about needing to sell so many courses or so many digital products every single month to make what you need to survive on, right? You also, this is another pro, don't need a huge following in the beginning. You don't need thousands of followers on Instagram to start getting one on one clients. And the other pro is you don't need to build it up, right? You don't need to work on it behind the scenes. You could literally start offering a service tomorrow and start advertising it. I literally did that this week. We decided we were going to play around with a VIP day offer. I mentioned it to a few people and within 24 hours we already had somebody interested in it. That's why one on one services are the quickest way to make $1,000 on social media. Let's now mention the cons. When it comes to doing one on one service, you need to work with your clients. And unless you have pretty strong boundaries and you're clear upfront what those boundaries are, they may try to start over your life. Right? That's why it's really important to stipulate what hours you're going to be working, when they can contact you, how they can contact you, and don't let them into your text messaging and things like that so that you have really strong boundaries. You're also gonna be constantly chasing clients too to keep your roster full. So if you have a retainer that they will wanna stay month after month after month, that's great. But when somebody wants to drop out, you're going to need to make sure you have a wait list or somebody kind of waiting in the wings to fill that. If you know you need that amount of money to survive. There's only so many hours in the day for you to take on clients. Like today was pumpkin patch field trip day at preschool. And if I loaded my calendar with 40 hours a week of client work, I would not have been able to go and do that this morning. So that's why one on one services are a piece of my revenue stream. It's not my full revenue stream. And we're going to talk about those other ones here right now. But first, how can you start making 1k from one on one services? Start sharing, whether it's on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, what it is that you do, what do you offer, what are you going to provide to somebody? Maybe start sharing behind the scenes of something that you do that you specialize in and start sharing wins or thank yous that you get from clients to really highlight your expertise so that more people will want to work with you one on one and have a place for them to ask to work with you. Right? Whether it's a fill out, a take in form or an email to send to you, just make sure you have a place they can contact you. The second way that you can start making $1,000 on social media is having an online shop. And I don't mean physical products here, physical products. There's a lot more investment and a lot more things that need to go on when it comes to physical products. What I'm talking about here is digital products. My friend and client, Christina Scalera has an entire course on this, which we're going to talk about courses next. But she really breaks down how a digital shop could really help you create this passive income. Now I say passive only because you're going to need to put some work in to get it going and you're going to continue to put work in it to promote it and market it, but it's not actual hours that you need to put into it all the time. Right. It's not like showing up and doing client work. You can kind of schedule this stuff out. So what are things that you could include in an online shop? Well, you could do things like templates, social media templates. I know Boss Project has an entire shop on social media templates. You could also do swipe copy. I know Ashlynn Wright, a shop with swipe email copy, swipe Instagram bio copy. These are just different things that make your customers lives easier. You could also do things like Trello boards or Asana checklists. Again to just make people's life easier. We do that with my prep system. I literally give you my checklist in Asana for creating a YouTube video. From ideation the whole way to publishing. The reason behind this is if you're giving them these smaller price products like $17, $27, $47, it's going to be easier for somebody to actually purchase it because the hardest dollar you're going to get from somebody is that first dollar. Once you get somebody to spend one or more dollars, that first dollar with you, then it's going to be easier for you to get them to spend more with you. So having these smaller priced products or shop items helps you get them going in that journey with you. The pro of online shops is you always have something people can buy from you. It's not kind of like this doors open, doors closing type thing where you're constantly in this launch or you're having to fix a funnel. You can always have options available on your website. So if they find you on Instagram or YouTube, they can go right over there and buy something from you immediately. Another pro is that these items tend to be on the smaller scale, right. So they could be easier for you to create and maintain. Now let's talk about the cons. You will need a lot of traffic to your shop to make more money. Right? If you think about an average conversion rate on an online shop, you're going to need to make sure you're constantly getting people over there to get the conversions to make that $1,000 every single month. How can you start making $1,000 from an online shop? Well, first you got to create something super simple, super valuable. You know, the more valuable you make it, the more they're going to trust you with a higher priced product. Right. Once you make it, start talking about it on social media, share how you're using it, emails you're getting of people who are Using it, share behind the scenes, what it looks like, what the experience is once they get it. The more you can feature those products, the more people are going to be interested in them and want to buy them from you. Okay, now we're moving on to option number three to make $1,000 on social media. And this is the granddaddy of them all. And it's an online course membership, whatever you want to call it. This is what all marketing gurus say that you need in your business. And while I think it is a great piece to have in your business, I think it's a bad choice to make that your only way you're making revenue in your business with an online course. What you're basically doing is taking that one to one experience you have with one on one clients to one to masses. And if you don't really have that process down with the one to one experience, it's going to be even harder to get results and get people to go through a course without doing that one to one process first. This is also what people call the passive income life. And I'm going to tell you, online courses, it's not as easy as people make it out to be. You have got to make sure it's updated, maintenance it, update things. Especially if you're on social media and things change like Instagram and YouTube and email marketing, you need to stay up to date on the changes that are happening. So you've got to continue to update it, you've also got to promote it, you've also got to do launches to get people through. And buying your course, it's not just set it and forget it. Unfortunately, and I honestly think where we sit right now, from the experience that I've heard and I've talked about with a few people in the online space, a lot of people are on course burnout. And so you really need to find a reason or a value that your course is going to really have to make them want to jump into it. So let's talk about the pros and cons of online courses. Pro is obviously you can make a lot of money with courses if done right. We recently just had a launch of my program, Video Strategy Academy and we made $60,000 in 10 days. But that course, Video Strategy Academy was already created, so I didn't have to do the training videos or the course content. But one of the cons is it was a lot of work. I'm talking a ton of work. Because with this launch I had to get people excited, right? So I did a challenge that led into the launch of Video Strategy Academy. That challenge I had to create from scratch. I started planning this challenge in July and the first day of the challenge was the last week of September. So I'm looking at my calendar. It was 9-23-6. That's how long it took me to plan out this challenge. To get people to convert into Video Strategy Academy, another con is you need a following. You need to have at least a couple hundred people following you to really make money on your online course. Because somebody that doesn't know you or have any relationship or you've not built know like and trust with is not going to jump into a couple hundred dollar course. And the example of Video Strategy Academy, it was $1,000 when we launched it and I had over 15,000 email subscribers to be able to hit that 60k in 10 days. So you need to keep that in mind. Just creating a course and launching it doesn't immediately mean you're going to make tens of thousands of dollars. You've got to have that following to support that. So how can you start making $1,000 from an online course? Well, you could start small with a smaller course, maybe at a price point of $297. That means if you wanted to make $1,000 that month on your $297 course, you would only need to sell to. There is a lot more math that goes into launching. You also have to tabulate how many people are actually going to see your offer, what the average conversion rate is for those people that see your offer. But that's just simple math. You want to think about that when you are considering using social media to sell online courses. Number four is affiliate revenue. Now this is one that I've played a little bit with, but we've never had a real strategy over here for affiliates. So what I mean by affiliates is like Amazon, if you recommend a camera like I have or a microphone like I have, and you are part of the Amazon affiliate program, there's a special link that you can send people to that you make commission off of. This is actually how I was able to update all of my video equipment at the beginning of this year. I use all my Amazon affiliate money and it's not a lot of money only because I don't have a strategy behind it right now, but it was enough to help me get a new camera, get some a new microphone, get a tripod. And I do think there is a lot of opportunities, opportunity here for you. When it comes to affiliates, another affiliate would be a brand Or a business. Right. I'm also an affiliate for TubeBuddy. It's something that I personally use almost every day in my business. And it's something that I think other creators, specifically people creating YouTube videos, could use to streamline their YouTube process. So when I talk about TubeBuddy, I have a referral code that people can go to and I make commission when you sign up for TubeBuddy. And I've made pretty decent money from TubeBuddy every single month without having a strategy behind it either. And it's super easy to talk about because I use it all the time. So let's talk about the pros and the cons of affiliate revenue. Well, the pro is obviously you don't need to set up anything, right? You can just talk about something that you love, whether it's TubeBuddy, Canva ConvertKit, right? Something that you already use that you know your audience would love to hear about and that they would find useful as well. You don't want to just pick something super random. Like if I got on here and I started talking about a cup or a tumbler, right? That doesn't make sense. But for one of my clients who decorates tumblers and her entire channel is about DIY tumblers, that would make sense for her to talk about her favorite Tumblr if she had an affiliate link. Now, the con is you don't have control over that, right? The affiliate program could change its terms and conditions. It could change the amount of commission that you are going to make. And so it's something that you don't have control over. But it is a great way to start making that money and talking about things that your audience would appreciate you talking about. The fifth way can start making a thousand dollars on social media is through brand deals or sponsorships. This one is a great option, but you do need to have a bit of a following. Now, you don't need to have, you know, 100,000 followers to do this, but you need to be able to prove to brands that you have a community that trusts you and is willing to buy things that you recommend. A great way to get started to build a case study to pitch to brands for brand deals is affiliates. If you can show these brands that you are an affiliate, let's say for TubeBuddy, and you say, when I talked about this video about TubeBuddy, I was able to convert X amount of people to buy TubeBuddy. That will show brands what your conversion rate is like and what they can expect to possibly see if they decide to do a brand deal with you. Like I mentioned earlier with my client that does DIY tumblers, she has just under 35,000 subscribers on YouTube and she got a brand deal with a Tumblr brand. And that just goes to show, when you really understand your audience, brands will want to work with you because they know they can get in front of a specific audience. If you have an entire YouTube channel on creating tumblers and there's a Tumblr company or a craft company that wants to reach people who are making Tumblrs, she is going to get a much better result for them than just blasting ads out. Right. Another way this could work that we had another client inside of Video Strategy Academy as a brand, reached out to her and asked if they could pay her to license one of her YouTube videos for so many months. They were going to pay her to use a specific YouTube video that she had for their promotional materials. Right. They're going to give her a lump sum for three months for a video she had already created. Okay, so let's talk briefly about the pros and the cons of this. The pro is you're going to get a lump sum up front. When it comes to brand deals and sponsorships. They're going to pay you up front first. They're not going to work on commission. That's what affiliates are. For example, over the summer I had a sponsorship with Restream. So I went live every single week for three months talking about Restream and how I was using it and how I was going live using Restream. And they paid me a lump sum every single month to do that. The con is you have to have that active community because if a brand is going to work with you, they need to make sure it pays off for them on the back end. So they need to ensure they're getting new signups. They need to make sure they're getting more sales. Right. So you've got to ensure that you have that active community or that you're picking good things that your community will want to buy or try out. The best way to start using this to make $1,000 a month is to start doing affiliates. See what your numbers are like, make sure you're tracking your click through rates, how many people are actually clicking the link you tell them to to check out your camera over on Amazon or your favorite organization bins over on Amazon and see how many people are then buying what you're recommending. Because this is going to help you have a great case study to make more money and sponsorship deals. Now, it's important to understand that this is going to take work. There's no magic pill that you can swallow to have success in your business and make a lot of money. In fact, if you want to see how I actually got started, because I've been doing this for six years, watch the video that's on your screen right now and I walk you through my journey from day one to where I'm at now and how I'm making multiple six figures in my business. That wasn't me at the beginning. And I encourage you to hit subscribe to my channel because in the coming months, I'm going to be talking more about content planning and coming up with content ideas to help you make more money in your business. Sound like a deal? See you in that next video.
