Faking it before you make it. I'm sure you've probably heard this term before, and if you're like me, it just doesn't seem like it fits with me. I know I want to be completely open and honest with my community, and I don't want to fake it until I make it. In today's video, I want to share with you how I'm overcoming imposter syndrome and what I do to avoid faking it before I make it. Hey, guys. Welcome back to another episode of Jessa Tips By. My name is Trena. If you are new here, and I help creative business owners get started here on YouTube. And today, I want to talk about imposter syndrome, because before you can put yourself on YouTube, you've kind of got to overcome this whole imposter syndrome, right? If you're putting yourself out there, it can be tough. You can start to doubt yourself and think, who am I to get on video and to tell people how to do something? I feel like a complete fraud. So. So imposter syndrome is defined as a feeling of inadequacy that persists despite proven success. I know I struggle with imposter syndrome daily. Every time I publish a video, I think, who am I to tell people how to start a YouTube channel? But the thing is, I'm doing it. I'm posting videos. I'm seeing what's working. I'm testing strategies. So I know more than somebody who hasn't Even started a YouTube channel yet. Even though I may not be at the top of my game, I may not be that super expert that's getting asked to speak at huge conferences. I know I have some knowledge that somebody else could learn from. So when I post my videos, I constantly think about that. I think about the people I'm helping that are at square one, that don't even know how to upload a video to YouTube. We're all at different levels, and we can all help different people. But we can't help people if we're constantly paralyzed with feeling like a fraud and an imposter. So here are three things you can do to help you overcome that feeling of a fraud and just getting over that. Imposter syndrome, number one is keep a list of things that you've accomplished. We can really start to forget about things we've accomplished last year or the year before. But if you're growing in your business, you've probably accomplished a lot more than you realize. So you start creating a to done list instead of a to do list. Look at the Things you've done. Look how far you've grown. I know when I started my business, I wanted to create a course for passive income. Yes, I created a course. No, I wasn't happy with it, but I did it. How many other people out there are saying they want to create a course and they haven't done that yet? So that's something I've accomplished. I've also been able to relaunch a version of that course five more times. And even though it's not making me a huge amount of money, it's a huge accomplishment, and it's definitely something I should celebrate. And you should be celebrating all the things that you've done as well. The second thing you can do is educate yourself. Keep learning. Just because you know something about a platform or you know something about a subject doesn't mean you know everything, and it doesn't mean that it hasn't changed. So keep educating yourself and take courses in your subject. Keep growing. There's constantly things changing here on YouTube. So I'm constantly watching YouTube videos about YouTube, listening to podcasts, taking courses, working with leading experts in YouTube so I can continue to increase my knowledge and get better at what I do. So start educating yourself and taking courses within your industry so you don't feel so much as a fraud because you're continuing to grow. The. The third thing is mistakes don't equal imposter. Just because you make a mistake in something doesn't mean you're a fraud. I've been really open and honest here on my channel of the mistakes I've made here on YouTube. I have shared some strategies here on my channel that I've told you to share, where I've recently come back and say, hey, guys, that was wrong. I'm being true. I'm being honest. Yeah, I may have been wrong, but guess what? I'm not pretending that that never happened. I'm being real with you and telling you guys I've learned from my mistake and I want you to fix what I taught you. Not only is this you accepting your mistakes, but it's really building a trust with your audience because they know you're not afraid to tell them when you made a mistake. You're not lying and you're not hiding things. Everybody is going to make mistakes. We aren't perfect robots. So accept your mistakes, feel free to share them, and tell your audience and your community how you're growing from that. That's definitely going to do so much for your imposter syndrome than anything else that you can do. My question of the day for you is how do you deal with imposter syndrome?
