You want to know the hardest part about running your own business? It's managing all the fear and self doubt that you have in yourself. In today's video, I'm going to share with you a few ways that I help me manage my fear and how I get over that self doubt. Hey guys, welcome back to another episode of Just the Tips. My name is Trena and I help creative business owners like you get started here on YouTube. And before you can even get started here, you've got to have some self confidence, right? So I want to walk you through some advice that I have taken to really squash that self doubt. Running a business is no joke. It's tough. I started my business thinking, yes, I'm going to be my own boss, yes, I'm going to run the world, yes, I'm going to set my own hours. But it doesn't happen like that. You see people constantly, whether on YouTube or on Facebook or on Instagram, shouting out their success, showing their perfectly curated photos and you think, that's not what my life looks like. I guess I'm doing it wrong. The thing we don't see is what's really going on behind the curtains. That's just their Instagram world. And sometimes they're struggling with the same things you are, they just aren't sharing it. So I wanted to be transparent with you and share with you that I struggle daily, just like you when it comes to having confidence in your business and having all that self doubt run through your mind. Being an entrepreneur is a roller coaster ride. And I can tell you, I think at least once a day, maybe I should throw this all away and just work at a coffee shop. How easy would it be to just go work at a coffee shop and get a paycheck? No more posting to Instagram, no more creating YouTube videos, no more doing this hustle. But then I start to think about the people that I'm helping and how much I love connecting with you guys and seeing your success story. So I keep going and I love every part of it. So let me share with you some advice I want to give you to help push that self doubt and fear aside. The first piece of advice I have for you is find a business buddy. I did not have a business buddy my first year in business and it was really, really tough. I didn't know what was going on behind the scenes at other businesses. I didn't know other people were feeling the way that I fel. I felt like I was the only one who felt like I wasn't doing this right? Or I was a failure, or I just wasn't being good at being a business owner. But when I started reaching out to people and connecting with other people, I realized we all struggle with this. So find a business buddy or reach out to somebody for a coffee date. I like to have coffee dates with people. We get on Skype or we get on Zoom, grab a cup of coffee, and we just chat. We don't have to be in the same room. The Internet allows us to have these video calls, and it's just a way to boost your confidence and make you feel like you're not alone. The second piece of advice I have for you is stop comparing yourself to others. You see the perfectly curated Instagram, you see the beautiful website, you see people talking about their amazing launches, but you don't. You don't really see what's going on behind the scenes. You don't see, do they have team members, you don't see, are they spending money on Facebook ads. You don't always see what's going on behind the scenes. You also don't know if they've already been doing this for six, seven, eight, nine years. I knew that's where I was. I was like, oh, my goodness, this person is doing this launch. But they've been in business for seven years. They've known what works, what doesn't work. I. I've only been in business two years. So realize you might be comparing yourself to somebody who's at step seven or eight in their business, where you're just at step two or three. So kind of keep your eyes on your own paper and stop comparing yourself to what others are doing and do what works for you. The third piece of advice I have for you is stop taking things personally. Whether someone unsubscribes to you on YouTube or on Instagram or on email, don't take it personally. I get excited when people leave my email list because that means I'm not going to have to pay for somebody on my email list that's not interested in learning from me. I just want people on my email list that engage with me. So if I just have 500 people on my list, I'd rather have 500 engaged people than 5,000 unengaged people. So don't take it personally. If somebody posts a comment on your YouTube video or on your Instagram picture, look at it, process it. Is it constructive feedback? Is it something maybe you could change? Or is it just a troll comment, then just delete it. Don't take it personal because you can start spiraling if you start taking these comments personally. And when all else fails, my best piece of advice for you is take the day off, put on a face mask, grab a pint of ice cream and binge watch Netflix. I know I did this a few times last year and it just really rejuvenates you. It gets you excited again for your job. It kind of wipes the slate clean and it's really what you need when you're doing this day in and day out. You just need a break. My question of the day for you is how do you manage self doubt?
