5 YouTube Features You Should Be Using To Get More Subscribers!

Trena Little walks through five YouTube features to grow your channel: customizing your homepage, branded watermarks, playlists, analytics, and the community tab. She shows how each one works and why it matters for getting more subscribers.
I'm going to be showing you five YouTube features you need to be using if you want more subscribers. Because if you aren't using these features, you're missing out on getting a lot of new subscribers.
Welcome back.
My name is Trina. If you are new here and on this channel, I help you find the confidence to get on video. And one way to build that confidence is to actually have subscribers on your YouTube channel and to continue to see new subscribers coming to your YouTube channel. So one way that you can build your channel and get more people to find it and subscribe is to using a couple features that you might not know you need to be using. That first feature is customizing your homepage. If somebody finds your video in search or suggested and they go over to your channel to learn more about you, are you giving them your best content? Are you organizing your video so that they'll watch more? Are you really giving them a sample of what value they're going to get from your channel if they do subscribe? So the first thing that you need to do is to customize your homepage.
I'm going to flip over to my.
Computer real quick and show you how to do that.
So to customize your channel homepage, you want to come to this blue button right here, customize channel, and click on it. If you don't have that blue button, you're going to go ahead and click on this gear icon right here. And what you want to do is make sure you have this turned on so that is what it looks like turned off. You just want to make sure it's blue before we can move forward. Okay, so make sure that's saved. Then what you can do from here is start deciding what you want your homepage to look like. So you can see here you can pick a video for returning subscribers. If you don't want that one, you can come here to edit and pick any video that you want to feature for new visitors. I like to have my channel trailer, and that's where you can add that. So if you upload a new channel trailer, all you need to do is come into this pencil and change your trailer and upload it to the one you want. Then coming down here, you can create channel sections. Now, these channel sections are playlists, which I'm going to show you how to do here in a little bit. But how you pick your channel sections is you want to come to the bottom here, and there should be a little button that says add a section. So you're going to go ahead and click on this button right here. And if you want to select your playlist, you're going to go to single playlist. You want just one playlist at a time. And then you're going to make sure it's checked on my playlist, and then you can find whatever playlist that you already have created. I have a bunch of different playlists, so I have a lot to choose from. But once you do, this is what it's going to look like. Now, if you want to move this up or you want to rearrange these, you can hit this up button to make it go up or down. And you can decide if you want it horizontal or vertical. And that option is right here, so.
The layout of it.
And that's how you're going to make your channel homepage look much more customized and much more professional.
The second feature you should be using is the branded watermark. So you'll see it down in the corner right here. You see there's a little red subscribe button on my video, and that's called a branded watermark. I get asked a lot, what should I put down there? And my best advice is to make it look like, like a YouTube feature. People are going to be more likely to hover over it and see what it's all about if it's a YouTube feature. So why they need to be hovering over that is because they can subscribe to your channel right there on that watermark. So if it looks like a subscribe button and they hover their mouse over it, they're going to be asked if they want to subscribe to your channel. So how do you add this branded watermark? Let me show you.
So when you're in your analytics, what you want to do is come to settings, then you want to come to right here, your channel, and to branding. You can add your watermark right here. You can just. It should say upload. If you don't have one, if this isn't the one you want, you can remove it and replace it. And you can also decide where you want it to display. I choose the entire video. So they have this option to subscribe no matter what portion of their video they're watching. So that's how you can upload your branded watermark.
The third feature that you need to be using is playlists. Now, the reason why you need to be creating playlists is because after somebody watches one video, most of the time they're not going to subscribe to you. You got to prove to that viewer that you're going to Give them good content. And I know you got good content. So let's prove it to them by creating playlists of like three to four videos. Not only can those playlists show up in search and suggested, but it's going.
To prove to that viewer that you.
Have really great content as they go in from video to video to video.
Which is what playlists allow you to do.
So if they click on your playlist, they're going to be automatically taken from video one to video two to three. And if somebody watches more than one video of yours, they're more than likely going to subscribe.
So how do you create a playlist?
Let me show you.
So to create a playlist, you need to log in on the back end of your YouTube channel. And what you need to do is come over here to other features. Then you want to come down here to playlists. You can see all the playlists you do or don't have. Then all you need to do is click this plus button to add a new playlist. Create a title. So let's just say test title and you can decide if you want unlisted, private, public. I'm gonna go ahead and make this public for you all. So then we create it. And then once you create that brand new playlist, then you can add a title to it by clicking this little pencil. If you want to change it up, add a description. Don't forget to add a description. Just paraphrasing and summarizing what this playlist is going to be about. You can also add videos right here. So you can come in, you can.
Use your YouTube videos.
All you're going to do is click on this and then you can scroll through here to select the ones you want to add to this playlist. Then you can also change which thumbnail you want for the playlist. So you'll just come over here to more and set as playlist thumbnail if you want this one. You can also move them around as well if you want. And that's how you're going to start.
Creating these powerful playlists. The next feature you need to be using to get more subscribers is the analytics. And I know this is kind of a boring feature, but trust me, this will really, really help you get in front of those people that are going to subscribe to your chann. The one piece of data that I'm looking at specifically to get more subscribers on your channel is the videos that are driving you the most subscribers. How can you find that out? Let me show you.
You need to get to Your analytics to find the videos that are driving you the most subscribers. So you want to come in here to analytics and then come over here to see more, and then you can see right here the videos that are driving you the most subscribers. So for me, it is how to post YouTube videos to Instagram. You can also take this back by a coup months as well if you want to. And what I really like to do is hide this metric right here and then pop it back at the beginning because then it will sort it by this particular metric. So you come in here, hit subscribers. Now, this should be ranked from videos driving the most subscribers down, so it's much easier to look for. So if I want to grow my channel more subscribers, I should really focus on these topics right here because they're getting me the most subscribers out of the rest of my videos.
The fifth feature you should be using is comments. Now, Whether you're getting 0 comments or you're getting 100 comments, it can be kind of hard to manage all these comments. So there's actually a tab inside of analytics that allows you to see all of the comments so you can respond back to them a lot quicker than going into every single video. Because if you posted a video maybe six months ago, it can be hard to remember to go back to that video and comment back. I like to use my computer so I can type a lot faster than on my phone. And so let me show you how I respond to comments and how you can find that list of comments on all of your videos.
So again, once you're in your back end of your channel, all you need to do is come here to comments, and it's going to have all of the comments for all of your videos listed right here. So you can just start coming in here and responding to them. No matter how old these videos are or how new you can see, the most recent comments that I've had are on some older videos, whereas my newer video is way on down here with some recent comments.
Now, these next two features are only available for channels that have over 1,000 subscribers. So you're going to use those first five features that I talked about to get you to 1,000. So then you can use these next two features. The sixth feature that you can use is the community tab. This is a great way to connect with your audience so that they feel that they really know you and you have this friendship so they share your content to more people. So the best way to connect with your audience here is to engage with them. I love adding polls. I Always get a lot of engagement with polls. I love getting your feedback on what videos I should be creating. If I'm running out of ideas, I just ask you and create the videos you want me to create. I also will publish that. I have a new video coming tomorrow. Maybe tease what it's about. So my audience gets excited about it. So maybe they'll share it to their followers as well. Let me show you how you can add a post on your Community tab.
So when you're on a channel's homepage, the Community tab is right here. But I'm also going to show you what it looks like on mobile device, which a lot of people are watching YouTube on. And you can see they're basically like Facebook posts. You can add images, you can add gifs, you can do, let's see, polls here as well. You can promote your videos. I also had some Q and A's to get people to respond to Q&As. This is a great way to use the community tab.
The seventh feature is reels. So YouTube reels is kind of like Instagram stories. And what's really powerful about this right now is YouTube's pushing this feature a lot. So when you log on in your mobile Device and your YouTube app, you're going to see people who are posting these YouTube stories. You may not even be subscribed to them. So this gives you a major opportunity to get in front of new people that may not have ever seen your content before. It's going to be important for you to use these. Now, if you are doing Instagram stories, you could just use those Instagram stories here on YouTube. Just be aware, if you're using Instagram lingo like Swipe up, or if you're doing polls on Instagram, just don't use those stories on YouTube reels, but you can definitely repurpose it because it's the same size. So let me show you how you can add reels from your phone.
So once you log into your YouTube app, what you're going to do is come to this little camera plus button right there. This is where you can add a lot of stuff from your phone if you want to use your phone for doing videos. But what we're going to do is a story. And now you're going to see me behind the scenes in my closet shooting this B roll.
So you can go ahead and press.
That round button and tell people what you're talking about. So I'm shooting some B roll for next week's video and I'm sharing with you how to use reels. So once we have that recorded, then we can add music to it by adding this music button. You can also add as well any color that you want. And they also have gifs and stickers too for you to use as well. Emojis, whatever you want. Then you can hit post and you can also save it so that you share it on Instagram Stories. But it's just a way to connect with your audience a little bit behind the scenes.
Now, if you're struggling with coming up with video ideas to start using these features, click the video that's on your screen right now, where I'm giving you 15 video ideas that are super easy for you to create today.
