6 Steps To Create a Successful Online Course

Trena Little walks through six practical steps for launching a profitable online course. She draws on her own experience to cover planning and organization techniques that help business owners get a course off the ground successfully.
I've got six steps that you should follow to make sure your course is profitable and you don't rip your hair out while doing it. Hey guys, my name is Trena and welcome to another episode of Just the Tips here on my channel. I help lady business owners navigate this crazy online world so they can have more time doing the things they love. And obviously one of those huge parts to have more time to do the things you love is to get some passive income. And having a course to sell is one way to do it. So. So let's jump into the six steps to launch a course successfully. Now the six steps I am going to show you doesn't mean you have to follow these exactly what I have Learned through my two launches in 2017 and three launches in 2016 is you can take in all the information about launching a course, take courses about launching a course, but you have to take all of that information and then mold it for you and your business. So take it in, compute it and then spit it out. As to what works for you and your business, the first thing you want to think about is what are you good at? So what do people come to you for help with? What do people in Facebook groups ask that you can answer? What is your passion? You're really going to need to be passionate about this specific topic because you're going to be spending a lot of time doing it and people are going to see through your teaching if you love it or not. So pick something that you're really good at and you really love spending your time on. The second thing is to think small. Start to think what can I sell for $50? What can I sell for? Maybe $97? If you're just starting your online business and you're just starting selling these types of products and you don't have a big email list, start small. This is going to be a great stepping stone for when it comes time for you to sell sell a bigger product. You can start filtering these smaller products into your funnel. But this is a huge mistake. I learned from. I came right out the bat with a high priced product and people weren't really able to test my products at a smaller price point first. So think an ebook or a workbook or maybe even some templates you can sell to get started bringing in money while you work on an even bigger course while building your authority. 3. 3. Break up the content in manageable chunks. If you look at my course, YouTube Bootcamp, none of my video trainings in this course are longer than 10 minutes. People don't have time to sit down and watch videos. So if you can make your course manageable into small segments, people are going to be more likely to complete that training. Because trust me, if I see a video that's like 20 minutes long, I'm like, this is going to take forever. So, so how can you break that up into manageable, consumable content? Step four, Think about these complementary pieces. So if you are doing an ebook, can you have a workbook alongside of it or a checklist? So as they go through the ebook to learn more about your topic, they're checking something off to know they're getting through and they can see their process. With my YouTube for Bootcamp course, I have a workbook so they can fill in the blanks, they can write their ideas down. People like to print something off and to write on it. That really brings more value to your course or your product. If you have something printable or something complementary that people can scribble on and actually see their progress on paper. Step number five is to get post its. You see my post its back here. I use it for content planning, but I also use it for planning my course. I like to dump down all of my ideas on post it. So when I was planning YouTube Bootcamp, I thought, okay, how to set up your channel? So now what's all under setting up your channel? So setting up your channel was one post it, Then it was channel, banner, about me, page, channel, homepage, customizing it. And as I wrote down all of these ideas, I could start taking the post its and put them under the module that I wanted them to go under. So using these post its just really help you to organize your thoughts, get them all down, and then have specific spots for them to go to in your course. Step number six is to get organized electronically. So once you have all of your post its written out and you have a map or a blueprint of your course or product, put it into something like Trello. I love having Trello because I can set deadlines. I know this is my launch date, I have that deadline there, so I know what I need to get done. You can also use Trello if you have team members so they can keep track of their progress, you can see what they're working on. But having Trello and having an electronic organization system just helps you get more done. You can set those deadlines, you can move your cards, you can see what you need to get done. And even if you're at a coffee shop and you forgot something or you're at an airport. You can easily pull up the Trello app and work on things that need to get done. And then my bonus tip for you is to plan in advance. Get a big wall calendar like this. Set your launch date on that calendar and work backwards. You know this is the day you're launching. Then you want to go back. When does the sales page need to be live? When does your challenge or your webinar sales page need to be live? When does your course need to be completed? When do your graphics need to be completed? You want to get all these things done in advance and set deadlines for them so that when that launch day comes, you're not scrambling with 520 things to do. So my question of the day for you is what's the hardest part of launching something for you? Whether it's a service, a product, a course. What's been the hardest part for you to get to that next step in launching? Let me know down in the comments below. Let's start talking about it.
