9 Ways To Get More Views on YouTube

A short tutorial by Trena (creator) offering nine practical tactics to increase YouTube views for creative entrepreneurs. Tips cover visual optimization (thumbnails), human-focused titles, promotion via email/Instagram/Facebook/Pinterest, planning using analytics (audience retention), playlists/cards/endscreens to drive more viewing, and the use of hashtags and CTAs to surface videos.
You want more people watching your videos, and I want to help you get more views on your videos. So in this video, I'm going to share with you nine ways to get more views on your YouTube videos. Hi, I'm Trina, and on this channel I help creative entrepreneurs just like you get on YouTube to help you grow your business. Like I said, this video is about getting more views on your videos so you could potentially turn them into clients or customers. So let's just jump right in to the nine ways the first way is better. Now, if you watch my video about the new YouTube studio, Beta analytics, you can actually see how well your thumbnails are doing. You can look at the click through rate and see if your thumbnails are actually doing well. So what makes a good thumbnail? Well, the first thing you need to have on your thumbnail is a photo of you and a photo where we can see the whites of your eyes. So no sunglasses and no not looking at the camera here. The reason why is because people are more likely to connect with a thumbnail and click through if they trust that person. And by seeing the whites of your eyes, they're more likely to trust you and click through. Another thing to make your thumbnails better is to use a pop of color. The background on YouTube is usually white, and so you've got to have some kind of color that draws the eye, the attention to your thumbnail. A few of the other things that make good thumbnails on YouTube is highly saturated, bright and sharp images, so people can really see what's going on in that thumbnail. The second way to get more views on your videos is to create titles for humans and not robots. So Tim Schmoyer, a video creator, says this all the time, and we want you to avoid keyword stuffing your titles. YouTube doesn't work for robots anymore. YouTube really understands what your video is about. So your goal with your title is to intrigue somebody to click through, say something like how to bake the best tasting chocolate chip cookies you've ever had. That's much more catchy than you guys want some cookies. So if these two videos were up against each other, the how to bake chocolate chip cookies and the how to bake the best tasting chocolate chip cookies you've ever had. This one's obviously going to get more clicks because we want to make the cookies that are the best tasting chocolate chip cookies we've ever had. Right? So. So when you're thinking about your titles, don't think about all these keywords. You've got to get into that title. Think about what's going to make that ultimate viewer click to watch your video, what's the value you have for them? Or what's the story you're teasing in that video? The next way to get more views on your videos is to let your email list know. If you're a business owner, you probably already started accumulating some emails. So when you post a video, tell your email list, they might not even realize you have a YouTube channel. So what I like to do is on Wednesdays, I have a new video that goes live and then I send a newsletter to my list saying, hey, new video. I usually talk a little bit around the story for the purpose of creating that video and tell them to go check that out to learn xyz. So if you haven't been telling your email list, that's one way to definitely get more views on your videos. Another way is to share on Instagram. This little guy right here has so much power. Whether you post on the feed or you do a story about it, just letting other platforms know that you have a presence on, that you have a YouTube video is going to help you get more views. It's not being too repetitive and it's not being a pain in the butt to tell people on the different platforms that you have something new up. Just get on Instagram stories and tell people, hey, if you've ever wondered how to get more views, pop over to my YouTube channel, because I'm giving you nine ways to get more views on your videos. Another way to get more views in your videos is to visit some of the Facebook groups you're a part of. Now, I'm not just saying post and run. Check to see if that Facebook group has a day of the week or a prompt where you can share a blog post or a video. That's one way you could get more eyes on your video, that they might not even know you have a channel as well. So not only more views, but potentially more subscribers as well. Another platform you might not be thinking about to get more views on your video is Pinterest. And I absolutely love Pinterest. It's one of my biggest traffic sources to my website and also to my YouTube channel as well. I create a Pinterest optimized pin. So it's not just the Thumbnail here from YouTube, but it's an actual graphic. And that graphic goes on Pinterest and it actually connects to my blog post where my YouTube video is embedded. Now, they aren't going to YouTube to watch my video, but they're watching my video on my blog post, which means more views on that video. Another way to get more views on your video is to plan that video in advance. Now, I talked about analytics before and studying your audience retention graph. So if you understand your audience retention graph and you plan your video in advance based on the feedback you're getting from your audience retention graph, you're going to be able to create better content that keeps people watching longer. This is important because if you're consistently hitting that 50% audience retention at the end of your video, YouTube is going to start promoting more of your content on, on the homepage, on the browse feature, and in suggested videos. That's why it's so important to really map out that hook of your video and the title and the thumbnail before you even shoot the content. So it all ties together and you keep people watching your video in the beginning. Moving into the next way to get more views on your video is to get people watching more of your content. Some of the best ways to do this is to create value proposed playlists. So instead of creating playlists that are a category like crafting, blogging, food, journaling, create titles that really propose some type of value. So instead of just saying crafting, say something like 10 minute crafts you can do while a kid's nap. That's much more clickable than just crafts. Right? Also, want to use your cards that are popping up right here? I'll pop up one right now that would send you to a playlist and, and end screens at the end of your video, where I always have a video suggested for you to watch next. And I tell you what to do to click that video and watch it. So you're watching more of my videos, giving me more views and more watch time, making me look more valuable to YouTube and YouTube, suggesting more of my videos. Now, this little tip that I have to get more views is relatively new to YouTube and I'm still really testing it out, but it's to use hashtags. YouTube now allows you to use up to three or five hashtags, I believe. And all you need to do is put those hashtags down in your description box and then YouTube recognizes that and it will put it in your title. So if you see right below this video, right above the title, you'll see the little hashtag YouTube for creatives and YouTube tips, I am putting those hashtags just in my description box. The hashtag YouTubeForCreatives is kind of my community hashtag so people in my community know if they want to find other people creating content on YouTube that's creatives, they can go to that hashtag. Then I use YouTube tips because I figure a lot of people here on YouTube might be looking for tips so I could have my videos show up in the hashtag here on YouTube. YouTube tips. So what are some hashtags in your niche that you could start putting into your videos that potentially show up in YouTube search? If somebody comes over and searches 3 through hashtags, been busy working. RiseandGrind Is it Friday yet? If you want to continue to learn how to make your YouTube channel better to help you grow your business, make sure you click that video that's on your screen right now. And don't forget to subscribe for new videos every Monday and Wednesday, helping you use YouTube strategically. Thanks for watching. Bye.
